Tony Hawk Not Shying Away From Future Ride Efforts

We didn't like Tony Hawk: Ride and in fact, most critics didn't. Most gamers clearly aren't all that interested, either, as sales have been far lower than anticipated.

But that doesn't mean the idea will die. According to what Hawk told Kotaku , he's still hopeful for more Ride installments and the implementation of the board peripheral in other sports titles. Prior to this, we had heard that Robomodo planned to take that nifty accessory (which unfortunately isn't anywhere near responsive enough) and use it in other projects, and it appears the legendary skater is on board with this plan. Said Hawk:

"I feel like the device is a flagship for other games. I think we can do another skate game, I think we can do other board-type games, surfing, snowboarding."

It was "the master plan" to have the board be used in future games, which is good news provided Robomodo can make some major upgrades and alterations. Hawk also believes it could prove to be a gateway device for getting more people interested in skating, perhaps in the same way those plastic instruments for Guitar Hero and Rock Band have prompted many to try the real thing.

"I think it could maybe be a bridge for people who were intimidated to try skating in the first place. They could get on this and realize maybe they do have a sense of balance they didn't know and that that will inspire them to try the real thing. I could only hope."

It's not that we have a problem with that but we get the feeling that if you buy a game like Ride , you're already interested in the sport. At the same time, any new inspiration to keep people active should be welcomed, and we're hoping the developers can work on giving us something a bit more playable the second time around.

This boy ain't thinking right if he's putting his future into the hands of a surfing video game. Maybe someone should point out the track record on those games before this gets out of hand and we're dealing with a very irate Hawkman.

I don't understand why he's standing behind this plastic piece of garbage. I miss the days of THPS. Even Project 8, though fun at first, just lacked the charm of the original 3.

That crap of a skateboard has already been marked down to $99 new at GS & a lot of other big retail stores.

And yesterday I saw that amazon was selling it for $87 w/ free shipping too.

I'll get one used(but for the collection), and only after it's been thrown into the bargain bin.

I think it's funny Tony Hawk got taken for a ride instead of the gamers. He seems to be dead set on trying to screw people over.

Dear Tony,

You were cool in the 80's and 90's. You started getting publicity and you remained cool and retained the respect of people in the skate scene. The more publicity you got you started to change. Now you make statements accusing people of hating your game before they even tried it. I think it's time we both moved on. I mean I've met someone new. Skate was there for me when you were doing the same old same. Skate was the friend I needed to help me through the tough stuff. It's better this way. Just, just…find something new. Don't make this any harder than it is.

I hope TH doesn't ride this to bankruptcy. Sometimes, you have to just cut your loses and move on.

and this is a surprise why?
hes invested his name on it, ill bet my left nut his making a great deal of money off the deal.
so he would be stupid to stop at one, even if it does not sell well he gets no revenue but he still has the license payments.
hell i wish i could slap my name on something and watch the cashola come rolling in.

Last Tony Hawk game I played was THPS 4 on PS2. Should I have tried the ones after that?

I feel like I left the series at an appropriate time when it was still new and cool.

He obviously cares more about his bank balance than his fans if he wants them to waste their money on this.

The continuing future of his name and perceived brand is riding on this so I can understand why he is so defensive about it.

He thought it was good enough to put his name to and even parade around on stage with Microsoft touting how amazing it was so he getting his just deserts. Either get some respect and morals for your fans or get the hell out, Sell Out!

Underground was the last good Tony Hawk game. It had a nice "Rags to Riches" story going on and was just plain fun. I wish they would make a Underground 3 and leave this peripheral nonsense behind them.

What can you even say? He puts his name on a rubbish game that costs twice as much as most games, then defends the indefensible, and now he's dreaming about it revolutionizing the industry. I don't know if he's brainwashed by $$Kotick$$ or if he really just doesn't give a damn about anything but money.
