Dante’s Inferno Sequel A Possibility

Do you know what's required for a sequel? While the idealists may quickly say, "quality," the realists will respond with the correct answer: "good sales."

Therefore, if enough of you out there purchase Dante's Inferno next year, EA will most certainly consider a sequel. At first, one might believe that once this take on Dante Alighieri's "The Divine Comedy" is over, there can be no going back for another adventure. After all, this game is already taking some crazy creative licenses (there is no fighting at all in "The Divine Comedy," let alone what we see in the game) and there wasn't a "Divine Comedy II." But that won't stop EA; according to G4TV , Inferno executive producer Jonathan Knight admits of the challenge that would face a second descent into hell, but said he still wants to earn "the right to do a follow-up." For now, the team over at Visceral is focusing on Dead Space 2 – as well they should – so you won't be hearing about a sequel to Dante's Inferno any time soon. However, they'll wait to see how everyone responds to the upcoming action slashfest in February and if that's positive and sales are high, you can bet EA will turn back to the studio and say, "yep, go again."  And we won't complain.

Of course, Dead Space 2 is going to rock hardcore and we wouldn't want to distract the team from their work. At the same time, we love the look of Inferno and it could very well become yet another top franchise for EA.

Well this game is based only on Inferno so the next game will be Dante's Purgatorio?

I came into this very late granted, but I was thinking along the same lines though I don't know how they could turn Purgitorio or Paradisio into a video game that would hold the normal gamers interest.

The same was true of Inferno, but that didn't stop them. As Ben suggested, they've already bastardized the source material to an unholy degree; why stop now?

Perhaps they should use the same engine and resources and just build hack-n-slash games based off of every awesome old novel. Maybe the Iliad? Theres actual fighting in that so it shouldn't be too difficult to turn into a game.

I'd like to see one on Frankenstein where you play as the monster.

Or they could somehow pull off a game that takes place during The Crusades? Lots of torture abound! Plunder, pillage, and giggles galore.

Sorry about the double-posting. It didn't show up at first (I did check) and now it's too late for me to delete it.

World, I asked another soul here (in an earlier post which I can't seem to find anymore) how to successfully kill Death itself in the demo.

I get to the part where the counter is going 3,2,1 and then displays the word "exalt"… but for some strange reason cannot actually kill Death. Once the number count down disappears I have to start again. After hitting R2 and playing out the special move on Death, nothing happens.

I am basically stuck at that point and can't kill this monster 🙁 Any tips of what I am doing wrong?

Shoot man I dunno, maybe yours is different, I just replayed it to see what you meant and there was no countdown or exalt. (assuming we are talking about fighting the grim reaper?) There IS an "exalted" combo level over on the left, kinda like the "brutal" on GOW.

Once I take Death's scythe, beat on him a bit and then press R2 all I have to do is tap O a bunch of times then smack the Square and Dante finishes him off, has anyone else had a different experience?

Hmmm, so you hit R2, smack O and square buttons and he is done for… damn, I can't seem to kill him, don't know what I am doing wrong!

Thanks World, I will try it again!

even if it plays just like GoW it still is an awesome game

not saying it's not an awsome game, it's still almost an exact button-for-button replica of gow, just less fluid

so good sales are required for a sequel?
so why did uncharted get a sequel.
why has BLACK not received a sequel, that sold well.
why is dead space getting a sequel, it sold decently but i would not call it great.
really game sequels are almost guaranteed IF the game is received well, and the people who have the rights to it are willing to do another.
thats it.
sales will come as the series gets older, and gains a larger fan base.
i wont be surprised if by 2011 we start to see no new IPs and everything just a sequel to a previous game.
not that thats a bad thing.
a sequel to dantes inferno is a given.
if dantes inferno comes out and gets the praise im expecting and it deserves, and a sequel does not come out ill eat my hat.

According to VGChartz (which may not be accurate), Uncharted (the tenth best-selling PS3 game) has sold over twice as many units as both versions of Black combined. Dead Space has also sold more copies.

If you have different data, by all means share it.

so how is that gonna work??

if it is following the divine comedy then next is purgatorio.

is he gonna fight the souls that are repenting??

then if they make a sequel to that, of course paradiso, he might end up facing God himself which just takes away all rational meaning to this story

How can you take away something that was never there?

the meaning is that he is a christian, and he is fighting demons to get his woman back

and since he is a christian, why in the world would he go up against God??

Just curious how they already are thinking of a sequal when the first one hasn't launched yet? really never understood how devs just know they should make another one, should they not make sure they are going to make a profit off the first one first.

"Therefore, if enough of you out there purchase Dante's Inferno next year, EA will most certainly consider a sequel."

They obviously seem to like what they have done, and -if- it's a success…well yeah, I'd rather not repeat what I just quoted.

why would anybody want a sequel to an already crappy game in the making? I mean its just like giving us an sequel to an Uwe Boll movie.

And you have played the whole thing, huh? At most I'd guess you've played a few minutes of the demo, if even that. Bashing a game without having properly played it is like eating a banana without peeling it first.

@ ClaeRiCiouS

The same could be said about those who are heaping praise on it after only playing the demo.

Tes37 – Tbh, I already know it's a great game. I took a trip to the future a few days ago, see.

This also means that I've managed to eat the banana from the inside without even peeling it.

I'm not calling the game crappy like A2K78, but they could have changed some of the character controls around a bit more. Being a little creative isn't too much to ask for.

Thumbs down for going to the future and not bringing back a copy. Bad move.

Sequel? I'll be sure to find out if it's worth it in Feb. Until then, go to hell…by playing the demo and getting a gist of the game of course. 🙂
