Forgotten Sands Details And Preview Trailer Unveiled

Ever since we learned that a new Prince of Persia was in the works, we've been anxiously awaiting the official press release. Well, now we've got it.

Ubisoft has officially announced Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands , which is scheduled to ship in May 2010 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PSP, DSi, DS, and PC. We'll get a new storyline, new characters, new powers over nature and time, and fans of the franchise should know this plot takes place between The Sands of Time and The Warrior Within . The game will mark the return of multi-enemy combat (this was replaced for one-on-one duels in the most recent iteration) and of course, the Prince's amazing acrobatic abilities will once again be on display. This project uses the award-winning Anvil engine to produce "unforgettable set pieces" and with the new ability to have command over nature, the Prince will be able to combine this with his standard mastery of time for ultimate effectiveness. As for the story, here's the description from the release:

"Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is the next chapter in the fan-favorite Sands of Time universe. Visiting his brother’s kingdom following his adventure in Azad, the Prince finds the royal palace under siege from a mighty army bent on its destruction. When the decision is made to use the ancient power of the Sand in a desperate gamble to save the kingdom from total annihilation, the Prince will embark on an epic adventure in which he will learn to bear the mantle of true leadership, and discover that great power often comes with a great cost."

If you want to check out the first preview trailer , feel free. The first thing you will notice is the visual display; gone is the cel-shaded palette from the last PoP entry as we'll see a more modern, next-gen-ish graphical presentation. This is guaranteed to be one of the best – and most popular – titles for next year, so come May, you might just have to pick this one up.

Damn. I was hoping to hear something about Elika. She was the best addition to the series since day one.

She was. And it was also one of the best examples of AI-fueled co-op I've ever seen in a game. So smooth and reliable.

I declare fail on trying to insert a game into a trilogy. They'd best not disappoint me.

Me, too. It doesn't even look like a sequel. Seems more like a promotion of the up-coming movie, but, I'll still probably get it. I got attached to Elika and the prince, and was hoping for a continuation of that. Do we have yet another prince this time?

Nvm. I looked it up, and it seems to be the older prince from Sands of Time and Two Thrones (like the movie will, if I'm not mistaken).

Yeah. But, it clears up after the downloadable prologue. Totally worth it, imo. And I'm pissed at myself for selling it.

I didn't really mind the art direction of the last game but to be honest I am a graphics whore and like the new look way better. And I know others liked the gameplay of the last one, but imo that was not a PoP game. Hopefully this one returns to its roots, the same roots that made this franchise great. I did like the story of the last one but I really could not stand the gameplay/fighting.

im glad there going back to the nitty gritty gory old style of the series.
hopefully they do go back and make another PoP like last years release, but for now im glad they returned the series to how its suppose to be.
hopefully they can put some awesome combos and brutal finishing moves of the two thrones.
story wise, well thats never been PoPs strong point.
as long as the combat is back to what it was like in the two thrones ill be very happy.

Hope we actually get a full game this time, and not have to buy DLC to actually understand everything =|

I am disappointed , the new art style was so easy on the eyes , gave the game a distinct look . I am afraid this is a set back . We want more of Elika .

As a long standing fan of the series, I'm disappointed they are turning their back on the 2008 story. Especially after leaving it off with a cliff hanger.

It kind of feels like they are forgetting about the fans, and just looking for a way to tie the series in to the movie.

Don't worry guys, I'm sure they'll continue the story of 2008's Prince (which I loved) some time in the future. They're just making sure they have marketable game based on a beloved series with a coinciding release of a feature film.

I just hope the game itself doesn't suffer from the movie-release date limitations.
