Mere hours after we complained that sales for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves were far too low , Naughty Dog's gem took home the coveted Spike VGA 2009 Game of the Year award.
We had no choice but to agree with the majority of VGA nominees ; think what you will about this awards show, but it was a solid and realistic list from both a critic's and gamer's standpoint. This is also turning into the Academy Awards for the industry although most insiders will tell you the annual AIAS awards are a bit more meaningful. Anyway, Uncharted 2 won Game of the Year, which is absolutely the correct decision and we're once again proud of the developers for giving us such a memorable experience. The nearly unparalleled sequel also took home Best Graphics and Best PS3 Game, although it lost out in the action/adventure category to Assassin's Creed II . …gee, an awards show after my own heart. I told you all how much ACII ruled and although I'm not saying the VGA Awards are the be-all and end-all, I consider it some form of vindication. Rocksteady Studios managed to nab Studio of the Year but outside of that, Batman: Arkham Asylum went without for the evening. This may annoy some of you – I know we have lots of Arkham Asylum fans around here – but hey, the competition was stiff.
Besides, our favorite RPG of the year, Dragon Age: Origins also had a big night, winning Best RPG of the Year and Best PC Game. Again, I bet some of you had hoped for Demon's Souls but to even have that title nominated is excellent, considering how "niche" it is in comparison to the rest of the very mainstream lineup. Lastly, Flower won Best Independent Game Fueled by Mountain Dew and we love that game, so… Damn good night, I would say. You can check the entire list if you wish; see what you agree and disagree with. At first, I was disappointed that Claudia Black didn't win Best Voice for Chloe Frazer but I have to admit, Jack Black in Brutal Legend was deserving of the award. However, how the hell Uncharted 2 wasn't at least nominated for Best Cast is totally beyond me. Absolutely the best overall voice-acting of the generation and yes, I'm including MGS4 in that category.
Quick Edit: Killzone 2 needed to win the shooter awards, if not the Best Multiplayer award. That is all.
I'm sure everyone wished that their purchase was recognized as the best game. MW2 is a multiplayer concentrated game. Uncharted 2 is a singleplayer concentrated game. Both arguably have excellent single and multiplayer experience, but everyone is just nominating MW2, because it sold the most. If they actually sit down and play Uncharted 2, there is no match.
im kinda pissed tht killzone 2 didnt get any awards…
Maybe cuz it came out so early in the year. Perhaps if it released in October, November, it would have been top of mind for nominations/voters.
So after all the moaning yesterday Uncharted 2 gets top award. Go Uncharted. 🙂
Bare in mind if your gonna compare games, Uncharted 2 is exclusive as we all know to PS3 and Modern Warfare 2 (MW2) is multiplat so how can you compare both games competitively ?
It's Infamous and Prototype all over again. Ok granted Uncharted is different to MW2 but the difference is Uncharted/Infamous =(exclusive to PS3) – MW2/Prototype = (multiplat)
Did any exclusive Xbox games get a mention ?

Not to wonder off the road here but you guys gotta read the Xbots comments about Uncharted 2 winning GOTY over on the VGA site reading ALL CAPS whining, excuse making, homophobic slurs and over valuing 360 exclusvies is hilarious.
The only other nominee I played was Batman:AA while both were fun in their own way Uncharted 2 earned the award because A. the action was fun, b. the story was epic and C. the overall presentation would shame any big budget movie.
I wonder how in the ungodly hell "Left for Dead 2" was nominated for game of the year I'm not saying L4D2 is a bad game but from screenshots and videos I've seen it looks like the same game with new characters and new location.
It had to be nominated because there were no other Xbox exclusives.
Magna Carta 2, Ninja Blade, Forza 3, Raiden 4, Stoked, and some others were exclusives. It isn't saying much of course but there were others. Though I do look forward to Steins Gate, and Chaos Head coming over here.
Sweeeeet!
Indeed. Without a doubt Uncharted 2 is the best singleplayer gaming experience out there.
Happy to see that UC2 won, it totally deserves that award, good job Naughty dog. Was hoping for demons souls to win but Dragon age is good as well. GOW III is defently the most anticipated game would have to agree 100% I can't wait for that game and wait to pick up UC2 after Christmas since I defently know people are getting me Gcards for Gamestop for christmas.
