NA Release Window For GT5 Narrows To “Summer 2010”

We know Gran Turismo 5 is slated to launch in Japan in March, but we've only heard vague estimates for a North American release; the best we've found is from series creator Kazunori Yamauchi, who would only say it would arrive "not much later."

But now it seems we've got something a little more concrete: after a short demo presentation of the game, Hinojasa-Miranda mentioned "Summer 2010" as a likely time frame for a North American release. Hinojosa-Miranda also mentioned that he would be coming to the US this week "to photograph cars for Polyphony's reference material," but this actually doesn't have anything to do with GT5. He merely said the team is "constantly building on its reference material archives," which makes perfect sense; if he wants to stop by and snap a few photos of Arnold's 350Z, I figure that's cool. I doubt he'd want to photograph my M35x; big luxury cars aren't exactly something Polyphony will be seeking. But perhaps more interesting than all of this is the fact that we don't really have a straight answer concerning the question, "will the NA version be different than the Japanese version?" Hinojosa-Miranda would only say they haven't released the full feature list just yet, so that gets us thinking… What if the extra wait allows Polyphony to toss in a few fun additions? Niiiice.

Oh, and if you don't already have Prologue – shame on you if you don't – a demo for GT5 will be on the PSN next week. That good enough for ya?

I've just picked up GT for the PSP as I've got a long commute to work. This and Prologue for the PS3 will have to fill the gap for the next six months.

Re-reading the Prologue reviews everyone was saying the game was just a 6 month stop gap until GT5 came out and that people may have been better to wait for the main event.

Well, nearly 3 years is a big gap! Sony are really trying our patience and it's not an especially effective business model or way to win friends by keeping us all in the dark and keep moving the goal posts.
If they had said Summer 2010 three years ago we could have cried, dusted ourselves off and got on with it.
Definate first day purchase though but I just wish Sony wouldn't keep putting us through the ringer!

Regarding GT PSP, I was a bit worried after this sites review but I am really enjoying it. It is the best racer on the PSP (IMHO) and the handling and graphics are excellent.

It is very similar to GT5 Prologue in structure (though I can't remember Prologue getting slammed so much for its lack of career mode).

With the PSP it's more about concentrating on a couple of tracks, winning a few races then trying out your car collection on the same track with the time trials to see what cars give the best performance. Shaving a few tenths of a second off the lap times is very addictive.

Having the ability to play your own MP3's while you are racing is a definate plus. All in all it's pretty good for the PSP and I'm glad I picked it up.
