You may not know much about Square-Enix's upcoming action/RPG, Nier , but you're about to.
We've just received all the pertinent details on this game via helpful fact sheet, and we have to admit, this is just another RPG that all the fans will be forced to consider. The game is being developed by Cavia, Inc. and as you might expect – most action/RPGs do this – it "blends both innovative and traditional RPG gameplay mechanics with an intense, bloody combat system." We're also promised a "unique and twisting" plot because "nothing is as it seems" and the player is kept guessing, ala mystery style, until the very end. Nier is the name of the main character, and he sets out at the start to find a cure for his daughter, Yonah, who suffers from the deadly Black Scrawl disease. Nier is fully capable of using insanely powerful weapons and magical attacks but he will also have the help of several friends, which of course implies party play. We have a few new screenshots but they're gigantic and will have to be re-sized and…well, to be honest, they're not that impressive. Perhaps they're from an early build of the game, or maybe they're even going for a different graphical palette, but things appear a little blurry and washed-out.
But we have every confidence that Square-Enix will deliver a solid-looking title as they almost always do, and the concept behind Nier is well worth our attention. The game is scheduled to launch in Spring 2010 and we're expecting a May release (but that's just a guess). Stay tuned for more on Nier as it becomes available.

Thank you, I will stay tuned. This will be the test to see if SE can actually do anything besides FFXIII correctly this generation after the less than stellar SO4, the less than stellar Infinite Undiscovery, and the total debacle Last Remnant.
I downloaded a video of Nier off of psn and the graphics looked kind of rough. I'm sure they'll do something about it.
I never doubted SE before because I was a FF fanboy, but now…..kinda doubt them.
With Kingdom Hearts and FF being the only franchise I like from SE, I never really liked other games from them, there was once I was excited about Unlimited Saga only for me to throw the game away the moment I realized it's a piece of trash.
how about Chrono series?
Never tried that before and even when I got my hands on it, the year was already 2006.
The game looks strange from a visual standpoint. I hope they fix whatever it is that's making it look odd. Otherwise, I can scratch one possible purchase off of my list.
I heard its done by the people who made Drakengard… I liked those games so I may just take some interest in Nier ^_^
(I have no idea what kind of reception Drakengard received so forgive me if they sucked universally I really liked them for what they had to offer ^_^)
Nier looks like a PS2.5 game
this is another title along with the Resonance of Fate I look for from SE, i am pretty sure they will NOT be that addictive as Demon's Souls to me, but I will get them just for their SE graphics, anything else if they shine, its bonus to me, such is my expectation.
p.s. Dante's Inferno demo is awesome, it is GOW clone, but who cares, the game just rocks and i cant wait, same for Darksiders.

BigBoss4ever, yes, the Dante Inferno demo is not bad at all: I do have an issue, don't know if you can briefly explain how to beat Death. I get to the point where all his powers are basically gone and then when he is supposed to die a timer appears counting down from 3,2,1 and the the word exalted appears. I can't kill Death. I tried for an hour, nothing. How do you actually kill Death and what does the timer mean?
Q!
"i am home"

@Qubex
Hammer time
timer?
never saw a timer, you just remove all his health, than a R2 prompt comes up and you enter a QTE fest.
like GOWs o when your fighting bosses.
i was kinda disappointed, good demo but felt like it was lacking something.
maybe all the hype made me expect more, and after playing the GOW demo 50 times i guess that probably dident help.

Maybe it'll turn out like inFamous did where the demo didn't do the game justice.
am i the only one who loved the infamous demo?
i was not going to buy the game, looked boring to me.
played the demo and shat my pants.
it was soooooooooooo much fun, and for once a demo that lasts longer than 2 minutes.
if it were not for the demo, i would of not bought the game.
but yea, some demos are a bad indication of what a game will be like.
haze being a perfect example, though i do like the game the demo demonstrated it would be better than what it was.
meh, the only game SE could make that would capture my interest is kingdom hearts 3.
till then, cheerio.
I don't give a sh*t about graphics in any game. If one of these are strong: Story, music, combo's. Im up for it.
Don't think it's music will be epic as a 100% RPG =]
if this is coming out in spring i highly doubt they showed you an early build
