Home Director Hints At “Mini-MMOs” For PlayStation Home

Right now, you can find several casual little games within PlayStation Home, but it seems Sony wants to build on this and provide users with an even more unique experience.

According to Kotaku , Home director Jack Buser wants his ever-expanding innovation to eventually become a "social gaming platform." Basically, they want to make what Buser is calling "mini-MMOs" for Home, which would definitely be a big step; we can already chat with friends and attend a variety of social get-togethers within Home, but "mini-MMOs?" Sounds interesting, even if that isn't typically your bag. Sure, you can go play pool or poker, or chip some golf balls over at the EA Sports pavilion, or try your hand at the Uncharted 2 multiplayer version of "Risk." But Buser says this is only the start and that they plan on moving forward in a big way. He wouldn't say that any such "casual" MMOs are ready to be announced but seemed confident that they would arrive at some point. Remember, it's Home's 1-year anniversary, and it's already unrecognizable compared to where it began last December. Sony has been working steadily to make Home something truly special, and these internal games could represent a valuable addition.

If you haven't been in Home lately, you should definitely check things out. It's pretty damn big; you might even get lost if you haven't been around in some time.

Another step to making the ps3 the more accessable and well rounded console. I am glad to see that they are getting more involved in Home, and I can't wait to see what they do with it.

Wow it really has been a long time since I've been in Home, there's just too many good games to play now.

I still do not visit home that often; even though I am supposed to be "home". We will have to wait and see how it all evolves; home is great if you have friends you can do stuff otherwise it can still be a rather lonely experience.

so its a mini massively multilayer online game?
wtf?
how can something be mini and massive at the same time?
hopefully there not like the minis on the PSN.
15 bucks for tetris?
20 bucks for bowling?
WTF?
i can get those on my iphone for 5 bucks.
hell jailbreak your phone than get them for free.
has sony lost their mind?
they want us to buy things off the PSN, there trying to push DD.
but they do so by charging more for the games online than what they are in the shop.
for example i got GOW CoO for 30 bucks its 45 on the PSN store.
digital games should be cheaper because.
1 theres no middle man so theres no markups.
2 no case, no manual, no material costs.
3 theres no cost of shipping, and distributing the games.
there removing all these costs, than hike up the price 15 bucks.
great way to push something sony.

yea but he said mini MMO.
MMO stands for massive multiplayer online, so mini in front would be mini massive multiplayer online.

I don't think it is an epic fail because the thing is always packed with people, but if I were a big shot at Sony I would be way bummed to be the director of such an anti-exciting product.

I think they need pets to walk around with you when your actually in home not just the personal space, a dog jumping around, a parrot on your shoulder or even a monkey that does monkey stuff. At first it seemed impractical but home has evolved. Even on xbox live you can by a pet for your avatar now. Come on Sony give us pets.

the mini mmos should be little worlds you can slip into to do basic stuff like shoot each other, fight each other, spar with swords and spells in an RPG style battle with teams and stuff. Have little pokemon monsters that you can train and fight each other with. Junk like that.

i guess i ought to check out home… i haven't been in "home" in almost a year… my initial feelings were, "this sucks" and the fact i had to download each area i went to got pretty annoying… i'll give it another go in the coming weeks though just to see how much different it really is…

ProTip: When you do go back Home, first go to the Map in the Main Square and use that to re-download all of the areas. Though not as easy as it SHOULD be, it's much better than having to do it while travelling and better than using the in-Home PDA, since it doesn't kick you out of the menu every time.

Home is retarded. It's like looking at a checker board. If your avatar actually meant something in your gaming life it would be cool. If your avatar "leveled up" along with your trophy level then that would be cool. If you could carry around swords and guns. That'd be cool. If it loaded hella faster, that'd be cool. If you could jump, that'd be cool. If Home had ANYTHING to do with the rest of the PS3 system, THEN and ONLY then, will it be cool. But no. What we have is a gimped second life.

Boooo !
