Ben-DutkaMost will agree that 2009 has been a darn good year for the PlayStation 3, and when looking at the overall average reception of its software, it becomes clear that Sony is on a tear.
For the first time ever, Metacritic issued their "Game Platform Power Rankings," a little competition that will be an annual event from here on out. The chart involved uses the site's all-encompassing tool that averages out all significant review scores, and it tells us which platform had the strongest year. Well, according to this year's findings , the PS3 tops the list, with an average score of 72% for all games and only 7% of the games falling in the "bad" category. Five of the ten highest-scored titles of the year were on the PS3 and the best reviewed game, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves , is exclusive to Sony's machine. The PS3 also had ten titles listed as "Great," the only platform to break the double-digit barrier (the Xbox 360 and PC and 7 apiece), and the Wii – despite releasing seven gajillion games – ended up with only an average software score of 67%, one "Great" game, and 13% ending up "badly." Yeah, well, I've been saying that for a long time but perhaps people will understand numbers better. It's also interesting to note that the PS3 had less games released, 228, than the Xbox 360 at 279, and yet, there were still more "Great" titles in the PS3's lineup. Ratios are important, people.
And what are we looking for next year? Well, if we had to guess, we'd say God of War III and Gran Turismo 5 both have good shots of becoming the best-reviewed games of the year, and of course, Final Fantasy XIII will have a say, too. Of those three, two are PS3 exclusives and the third, as it was initially designed for Sony's console, should be better played on the PS3. So perhaps the PS3 can go for two in a row in 2010…

I didn't forget. I want it to do great in the review scores, but I know for a fact that due to the unique style and what some may perceive as a lack of gameplay (i.e., all the QTEs), some critics won't like it.
i know it's going to be good. indigo prophecy is one of the best games i've played so i know heavy rain will top that.

Thanks to next March i dont think Sony has anything to worry about losing #1 for a long time.
Im confused by the pc chart though. 43% good, 49% mixed, and 9% bad. I guess pc gaming is awesome enough to warrant 101% game ratings, lol.

The PS3 is the platform of this generation.
The PS3 is its own generation.

Im sure the PS3's momentum will continue through the end of 2010. With the likes of God of War and Gran Turismo, the PS3 should catch the competition fairly quickly in terms of total sales.

Bah ! Xbox can't even hold on to its multiplats. Other than week one, MW2 has been selling more on PS3 than Xbox. No exclusives, lower multiplat sales. What do they have left?
I've never once regretted getting my ps3 and I don't think most people here do. However the wii sill fascinates my parents.
It was inevitable. The only way I could see it go otherwise would have been very suspicious to me. PS3 isn now begining to be the well oiled machine that it has always been meant to be. Although I have always said that the major slip by SONY was the seemingly oblivious stance that it took when the PS3 launched. They changed the way they marketed the product from a tried and true form to an experimental ad campaign. Yes we have the most advanced machine but not everyone knew that at the time. Alas, those times are behind us. And I am proud to own a full BC launch PS3 and the new addition to the family. What I like to call the STEALTH model PS3. (You heard it here first!!!) Slimmer. Quieter. More efficient. 2010. The Year we make Contact!

Sony keep releasing some AAA exclusive game while Microsoft will just scream how good Natal is next year.
Get out Microsoft, you're ruining the market and if you're not interested in making us gamers happy you might as well leave the gaming industry.
It's all about the games was the reprise of Microsfties for the first two years of the PS3s life, well it was when they weren't blasting it's price. However, if you ever looked at the Metacritic stats, you could see an interesting picture developing.
I'm glad to see that Metacritic is now makeing this 'official'. For at least the last 18 months, probably longer, the PS3 has had more excellent games in it's library than either 360 or Wii – proportionally. Wii has always been quite dire actually. Also if you look at the frequency distribution of scores on each platform, the curves are interesting. PS3 tends to have more scores towards the top of the range and Wii tends the other way, 360 is the middle of the pack. So PS3 has proportionally more excellent, very good, and good games than Wii and 360. 360 does do better than the Wii, but apart from it's decent number of excellent games, there is also a lot of very average dross.
The fun thing is that Metacritic is neither right or wrong, it's just numbers. It's a metascore which is actually pretty reliable at pointing out good games versus crap ones. So, it's hard to argue with Metacritic, because there is little to no spin, it's just numbers.

The other day I was on this Facebook group called "Video Games" ( Sorry Ben I know you are not a Facebook fan and so on) But still interesting enough I checked it out to see what it's all about…
OH MY GOD…. What a bunch of losers. First of all the are 99% xbots… and it was entertaining for like 20 sec until it became frustrating… The I just became completely p*ssed off all together.
I didn't even bother commenting on one single thing because it would have been a complete waste all together.
It's just strange leaving PSX and going elsewhere to see how blinded the majority of people out there can be.
I mean I am not bashing the Xbox it just didn't have anything I couldn't live without. GEARS being the only one I really wanted but I wasn't going to buy a console for 1 game.
Okay there has been more games that that. Like Bioshock, Left 4 Dead, Dead Rising and so on but most of them became Multilpat or will with the next entry into the series… But I guess you get my point.
Anyway I just read through the comments and true as F*** there are people there saying that FFXIII is going to be better on the Xbox and I quote "….hands down…" And some even believing that is now an Xbox Exclusive and that Sony lost their rights to it and it will never be on a Playstation console again.
Then there is still this whole " the PS3 doesn't have any games…." I mean come on where have they been in a f***** box at bottom of the ocean? Oh and Halo ODST or whatever is better than Killzone….. Y&&*^&%%$$#%$%^%&*(&^%$#@
I'm not hating on M$ or trying to suck Sony's Balls…. I just find that idiocy is a plague. And it is all over the place. That's why I think the PS3 will take forever to catch up to the Xbox purely because there seem to be so many miss informed people and simply put IDIOTS out there. I know it is getting better for Sony but still looking at that group on there it is obvious that it will take a while to break through barriers of their "perfect" little worlds.
Either that or they are just completely jealous of what we actually have and denial seems to be their best defense. I don't know.

i honestly believe 67% percent of people who own an XBOX are retarded. I argue with a kid every single day in homeroom and he still believes the 360 has better games.
the only reason people have the 360 is it WAS cheaper therefore more people have been playing it. hopefully everyone gets a PS3 for christmas and they will see how ignorant they have been
