John-ShepardEA Sports has dabbled in just about every sport imaginable over the years, but they obviously haven't touched all the bases just yet 'cuz they've got something original in the hopper.
According to GameSpot , EA has spoken about the immense success of FIFA 10 (4.5 million units sold through November) and the somewhat "discouraging" total sales of Madden 10 (3.9 million units through September). But they've got something unique up their sleeve, which they plan to announce in January. EA Sports community manager Alain Quinto said as much in a Twitter update: "Just heard the execs at EA Sports will announce a new game sometime in January." We know EA Sports MMA will be dropping next year and of course, they're bound to revisit all the established sports franchise as they do ever year. So the question is, what new sport are they looking at? What can we expect now? There are a whole lot more sports out there than you might expect, and maybe EA is planning to unleash something entirely fresh and unanticipated. I'm not entirely sure why they're keeping it under wraps, though; EA is usually more interested in getting the hype ball rolling early. They don't skimp on marketing and campaigning.
Well, what do you think it might be? EA Sports may be the last studio you'd expect would announce a brand new IP, but this industry is often full of surprises. No joke.

Road Rash with the SSX treatment. Now THAT would be great, but they said it was a brand new IP.
What about a Motorcycle based racing sim with on and off road, including the indoor motocross trials and other more spectator friendly motor sports on two wheels?
I'd suggest Criterion could do it, but they are reportedly working on the next NFS game. Not that the couldn't have two projects going at once, they did some good work including motorcycles in Burnout Paradise after all.
Maybe something like slamball? I haven't seen a game for that yet…
