Famitsu Review Of FFXIII Leaked

Normally, we don't care much about one leaked set of review scores from a Japanese gaming publication but when we're talking about Final Fantasy XIII …well, we suddenly become very interested.

It seems the Famitsu review of FFXIII has been leaked ; this source includes a scan of the magazine page in question, so we know it's legit (at least, we'll just assume it is). As you can see, FFXIII netted an almost perfect 39/40, which isn't exactly surprising but it's interesting to note that Bayonetta managed to snag a 40/40, which is bound to make many scoff in evident derision. The one reviewer that gave FFXIII a 9/10 complained of a "cluttered screen" where it's sometimes difficult to see how much damage is being dealt, but other than that, everything is glowing. Here's what Reviewer 1 had to say in his summary:

"Beautiful graphics and superb story. These aspects can be enjoyed without feeling as though they're being forced upon you. Combined with this, the extreme sense of satisfaction from the gameplay, is a direct result of a system that's evolved and reached perfection. With no vice to really speak of, at this time, this game stands at the RPG forefront of a superb combination of story and gameplay who's value can undoubtedly be experienced by all."

The third reviewer called it "extravagant and dense," with further allusion to the immense amount of content available in the game, saying the "character growth, gathering and crafting" is obviously quite absorbing. There's little doubt that FFXIII is a Day 1 purchase for most RPG fans, almost regardless of reviews, but such critical acclaim is always encouraging. Remember, this masterpiece launches in Japan on December 17 and in North America on March 9.
