Well, what do you think? The US/UK box art for Final Fantasy XIII certainly generated plenty of discussion, so perhaps you'll be interested to see the box art for Heavy Rain .
Being the artistic title it is, one would expect something like this; after all, the game was initially called, "Heavy Rain: The Origami Killer" (or that may still be the full name, even though it doesn't appear on the box). You can see both the front and back of the box by visiting Examiner.com ; both sides ought to appeal to the creativity lovers in all of us, and I especially like the faded background where the viewer catches the newspaper headlines with the words, "another killing" and "murder." And don't worry, even if you check out the back of the box, you won't find any story spoilers; the publishers aren't dense enough to put such important details on the case itself. This is one game where the story must absolutely remain under wraps until we play it, primarily because the plot is the primary appeal. If you were hoping to see Madison grace the cover, you'll just have to remain disappointed and wait for her strip scene in the game.
Heavy Rain should be out in mid-February; likely the 16th, and there's little doubt that it will be a crucial exclusive for the PS3's lineup.

That's not a very appealing cover, then again I will be buying it for what's going to be inside the case.
I prefer the European version.
BTW I noticed you're on Joystiq 🙂
Hey! at least it's not Destructoid 🙂
I agree. The UK cover looks better and not as cartoony.
That is pretty bland, u think they would put the chic on the cover.
i think that may be just Gamestops placeholder cover but, i could settle for it if not. Perhaps it needs more? Actuallty, maybe less, get rid of the busy background.
Like the original poster.
However, im glad he's sticking to his vision and idea at all times. So, we can't say how to improve it as it ain't our vision….one things for sure though, those emblems are too big!

hmm, i like it. But like lotusflow said that the background is too busy. Maybe i should have a go at making one of those 😉 just for fun.
Meh. i dont like it i dont see no thigs. lol
I am interested to know how this game turns out… awaiting the PsXeXtreme review before any dollars part from my wallet.
Q!
"i am home"
For some reason that reminds me immediately of Blade Runner. Then again in Blade Runner it rains heavily all the time…coincidence?
Hmmmm….now I think about it, if this game is a success how about a remake of Blade Runner in the same format, only this time you get to play Deckard and your choices define the story and the ending. Given that there are at least three different cuts of the movie, that would be in keeping with the movie itself.
The only thing I don't like is that new PS3 logo.
The PS3 logo is cool but that 'Only on PlayStation' that SQUEEZES at the bottom right just FAILS, I feel sad for the US covers.
With the UK covers too, we've always had the games specs like 'no. of players, hd support, network functionality' arranged in a cute little blue box at the back of the case. Last I checked the US back cover, those specs were just pasted flatly there like the 360 covers.
Next-Gen
Has a Silent Hill look to it which is good!

i hate the new ps3 logo, the spiderman font was so much better
The spider-man font is way better but this one is better for marketing.Sony can now stamp this logo just about anywhere and most people from the PS1/PS2 days will recognize it.
I like the cover because it conveys the exact ambience of the game. Sure it's bland, but the game carries a dismal mood along with it. This is the perfect cover for the game; we shouldn't expect to see a cover with rainbows and pretty colors on a game that had a dark and mysterious theme attached to it.
i like the cover for this game, it fits!
I like the UK cover more, BUT!
…
People need to give this game a chance. Reading Heavy Rain articlesvon other sites, I've seen most people trashing it and calling it a QTE fest. Tsk tsk! Creativity like this needs to be rewarded! The innovations brought about by David Cage through this game are great for the industry as a whole.
definately my most wanted game of the next year. Loved Indigo Prophecy's gameplay.
Could be a better, I want a darker and more macabre feel on the game. It's about a serial killer people!!
I don't think it's bland at all. If the game is good enough it shouldn't need much on the cover. MGS1 didn't have much at all on it's cover and we all know how that turned out.
I like the cover itself, don't like the new PS3 logo, and all the awards (it's good it got them) at the bottom are too distracting. Otherwise I like it.
Origami killer!
sweet!
now can we have a release date for the bloody thing?
by the time this is out, my great gran kids are going to have great gran kids.
im growing into a old man waiting for this.
I gotta say, I think the cover is great! It's a bit mysterious and then the origami crane's right wing is soaking in the blood. If you look closely at the crane it is sorta wet and dirty near the bottom. The whole cover has a sort of mysterious, sad, and horrific overtone to it. In any case (or cover), I'm still getting this game!
It's a shame all the awards are taking away from the artwork, and the artist's intended effect.
But I do like how it says "ONLY ON PLAYSTATION"
(and that's worth an award in itself)
TBH, I think the European box art needs to be redone. The lettering looks very amateurish and the background looks extremely blah!
Here there's at least a reason for the background. Then adding in the highly detailed oragami figure in the foreground just adds to the overall feeling of the game.
BUT I do HATE the friggin awards planted on the front. Yeah, the game is good, but please put that stuff on the back! You don't need to convince people to buy your game just because of a few acknowledgments/awards lol.

No, the UK cover edges out the US a bit simply cause the HEAVY RAIN stands out better than the US and its much simpler.
Yeah the letters do definitely stand out better on the UK version, but I hate the font. That being said, I still like the US version a bit better, but that's just my opinion. =)
To be perfectly honest though, I think both could be VASTLY improved..I don't love either one of them.

Not really bothered about box art tbh, after all I'd prefer them to concentrate on the things that matter. I definitely aint gonna be looking at the box when this arrives – it's going straight into the ps3, and then I'll be looking at the screen.
Now this what I call art. FFXIII was a bit too flat.
