Just about every game imaginable has a multiplayer option this generation, even new titles in established franchises that never once gave players an online multi option.
Therefore, would it surprise you in the slightest if the next Tomb Raider ended up with an online multiplayer mode? Or would it surprise you simply to learn that this series isn't dead yet? Oh, be serious; Lara Croft won't ever die, for better or for worse. Anyway, according to CinemaBlend , Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics is currently looking for a lead designer for "future AAA title development for Xbox 360 and PS3." This person must be adept at creating a particular "multiplayer vision and design effort," and the additional mention of maps implies that we're looking at a separate and fully realized multiplayer mode in contrast to a co-op mode for the single-player campaign. This is still an "unannounced title" although most have simply assumed it's another Lara entry and to solidify things, creative director Eric Lindstrom has said in the past that they often consider multiplayer features with each new installment. Well, now is certainly the time to take advantage of this online boom. However, we have yet to see the true-blue action/platformer that is a better experience online… Uncharted 2 springs readily to mind.
Anyway, we figure we'll start seeing more info on this "unannounced title" some time very soon and when it arrives, we'll be sure to tell you all about it. You just gots to love Ms. Croft.
Instead of multiplayer…
Why not a new character?
A side kick?
A new character altogether?
A new/more compelling story line (they could learn from Uncharted)
you know how many people that would piss off if they replaced Laura
Note to ALL game producers.
Put multi-player at the bottom of the list of features you will spend time and money developing and instead focus on story, characters and gameplay.
seriously, multiplayer is not going to revive this seemingly dead horse. Uncharted2 is a similar type of game, it had a good multi, but the main focus was the story.
which, i must say, was blooooody epic. i almost cried when Elena almost died.
almost.
I agree. Don't reinvent the wheel, just make it ride smoother. Better story, smoother graphics, seemless cut scenes, more challenging puzzles, etc.
Personally I'd be happy with a next gen remake of TR2. Best TR to date IMO.
Shame on you Zorigo. That's a nasty spoiler. And for the record, I was like a 4 over that.
If I were SE would remove Crystal D from all future Tomb Raider games, reinstate Core Design and bring back the original people to work on them as Crystal D have all but butchered this franchise and alienate the old school fans.

Nathan Drake should make an appearance In the game….could be funny!
well he does seem to have the ability to get hooked up with any sexy adventerous girl he meets.
hey maybe they could reveal the dark secret that drake is actually laras son.
sigh!
this is what i hate about the industry today were all sheep!
follow the Sheppard, he put MP in his game so we have to.
they have facebook on their console so we need it on ours.
they have netflix on their console so we need it on ours.
how about some originality people?
honestly the Sheppard would leap of a cliff and the sheep would go in after him.
instead of wasting time on MP how about they fix the platforming controls.
bring the series back to its original glory, there was a reason this was such a popular game only game to keep up with crash bandicoot.
but no there more interested in following the flock.
hope the waters cold enough for ya.
Shepherd
There is only one thing they need to add to the Tomb Raider franchise right now and that's something called fun. They removed it after the 2nd game.
The Tomb Raider games were better before Lara got breast implants.
They were better games when they spent more time working on the gameplay and story than they did modeling 44DD breasts, their bounce, and the sway of the accompanying rear end.
Not that there is anything wrong with those things, it's just that the game play matters more, besides if she was a 36DD it might take less time to model and debug through repeated play…

LOL. I'll take the 36DD and better gameplay.
I'm guessing that multiplayer will become pretty much a standard offering. I am not a big fan of it, but for big fans of a game it can add an additional bit of gameplay after they have beaten it. I played Uncharted 2 twice before I ever logged on to actually try it out. Only went up to level 7 before I lost interest, but it was a nice offering. I just wish they would come up with something more interesting than running around shooting each other. Maybe some card games (like FFVIII) for some exclusive in game items, but nothing that HAS to be done if you don't want to.
Given that the shooting in TR games has never been ideal, I'm fairly dubious about how good online multiplayer will be.
I'd rather see co-operative environmental puzzles.
the underworld is awesome, but i think i am pretty much done with this series, so yea, use the new talent to bring a new original game. kinda sluggish to think for a new tombraider for now.
Didn't like Underworld. Traded it towards the 360 HD versions of TR Legend and Anniversary. Those were the last great Tomb Raiders I can remember.
I wasn't really old enough to play the original Tomb Raiders on PS1. Played a demo and loved it. But Legend and Anniversary were the best ones on PS2, and even 360. But Underworld was just too clunky and buggy to enjoy.
If the time and polish of Uncharted 2 was applied to the new TR, then I would definitely consider buying it, I love spending time with Miss Croft on her adventures and a smooth, engaging experience would nail it (hee hee).
There's only one wish I have for the next Tomb Raider game is to "Fix That Stupid Camera"!!! If they don't, then they can just forget selling it to me, I'll just play Uncharted 2.
*sigh*
I just can't believe that one of my best loved franchise didn't evolve great.
Another issue they should address is getting stuck everytime you approach a wall and having to hit the jump button to free yourself. At least that's what happened to me in a number of different environments in the game.
The game is all about exploring, which you won't be able to do in multiplayer. Dumb. What they need to focus on is improving the camera so you're not forced to jump to your death countless times because it's not possible to see where you're jumping to.
lol, this game is going to have to compete with NaughtyDog. They should just give Laura Croft up to be the Top Villian in Uncharted3 and call it~Treasure Raiders~. Nathan Drake Vs. Laura Croft.. that would be somthing.. then agian that might be stupid too lol.
No, they should license Chole from Naughty Dog and have her star in her own adventure.
A Tomb Raider multiplayer component could be very good if properly implemented. A bunch of babes running around shooting each other? Awesome!
