Someone “Will Probably Do” A Final Fantasy VII Remake

Why do we do this to ourselves? Why do we do this to you ? Because some sick little deranged monkey keeps clanging his dented cymbals in our heads, always to the hypnotizing beat, "FFVII remake…FFVII remake…" We want to kill him but he's kind of cute in a depraved sort of way.

The idea of remaking Final Fantasy VII has been around for a very long time. In fact, it may be the longest-running rumor in video game history. The reason it always endures is because of news like this, from Square-Enix employees who never categorically deny the possibility of such a project, but instead instill false hopes in the hardcore followers. During a Final Fantasy Ring interview with Akitoshi Kawazu and Toshiyuki Rahans (producer and director for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers ), the idea of a remake popped up. In fact, they were asked if "episodes VII-IX" would be remade and whether or not that would be Kawazu's next project. His response:

"No, no, no, no … (laughs) Someone in the company will probably carry the remake of FFVII, but not me. But if someone tries to do [it], it will be a huge project. With the current technical specifications, it would be very difficult."

I assume you're all looking at the same part of that response, where he says "someone in the company will probably carry the remake of FFVII." This is especially significant because the question provided him with three possibilities for a remake – FFVII, FFVIII, and FFIX – and he specifically mentioned Cloud's adventure. On the other hand, the translation could be off just a touch, thereby producing significance where none really exists in the first place. 'sigh' Who knows? But any news like this is always big, so we must abide…the dude abides…

FFVII PS3 ONLY! Enough space to make a 100 gameplay on duallayer bluray.

Not like FFXIII 50 hours because of the 360. I blame M$!

Why can't we get more RPG's like Ocarina Of Time, or Eternal Sonata where you get to play the battles not pick from a menu and watch the game play itself? Thats the reason I wasn't able to enjoy this popular RPG as well as many others, believe me, I tried, I was just so bored to death. And all you FF7 fans don't burn me please, I'm not knocking this game at all.

Ocarina of Time is no RPG. I don't care what anyone says.

And there will always be a semblance of strategy in turn-based that will never exist in real-time, for a variety of reasons. What I find boring is hacking 'n slashing six million times in a game and never really seeing anything new. So we all have our own preferences.

I heard of Demon's Souls was really good but didn't really look into it as to know what type of game it was, I'll have to give it a try.

Ben, you're correct about Ocarina, and I worded my question wrong earlier. I should have said "why can't we have more ACTION RPG'S" as that is the category Ocarina and Magic Knight Rayearth fall under. I believe there are 3 categories for RPG's- RPG, Action RPG and Strategy RPG. I'm not saying this is 100% true because i don't know, I'm not a hardcore RPG player, but it's what I've heard. I have Dragon Force for my Saturn (can't stand the game but kept it cause it's value is rediculas on Ebay and because I had a goal of owning all 255 US Saturn games which I achieved 3 years ago) that's concidered Strategy RPG where the game plays itself, so boring.

But, like you said, we all have our preferences, I just prefer to be in control of a game I'm playing.

Ben you see plantly new as a Zelda game progresses. New weapons, armor, magic, tools, etc.

I do agree it's no RPG though.

Mysterio: Control is subjective. In any strategy game, when you move a unit to a certain space and then watch what happens, you had control over that unit's action…you just didn't press a button while it executed that action.

Obviously, the entire point of such games lies in the positioning of those units. And further "control" would change the entire nature of the game and would certainly detract from the depth; i.e., if you were good at the action part, even a poorly executed strategic maneuver could turn out well.

So when I play FFVII or any other turn-based RPG, actually controlling the sword slash is the last thing on my mind, while there are a dozen other factors I'd be considering that aren't always part of action/RPGs. That's just how I see things, anyway.

it's like you said Ben, we all have our preferences.

@snipeysnake

yes, Bayonetta demo was friggin' awesome. It was like playing a female version of Kratos, except without all the awesome gore, and…. it had all that cheesy annoying japanese effect to it with the way the character acted, and the title song, oh god lol but this is DEF a game I'm getting.

Ocarina of Time is classified as an action-adventure. Magic Knight Rayearth is classified as a RPG. Eternal Sonata is an action-RPG. Three different games and three different genres. Only two that closely resemble each other.

And there's various categories of RPG.
Tactical
Action
Massive Multiplayer
Roguelikes
Shooter
and probably another here or there that I can't remember offhand.

The project might be expensive to finish on a big console. I think they would also need to measure their possible losses. The input regarding these remakes I would think serve as a reminder that a rather loyal fanbase is an opportunity to make money. I don't think Square would want to cut them off cold turkey. If anything I would be satisfied if the remake was made with Crisis Core graphics, and released on the PS2/PSP.

I mean it would be all great and everything if the game had beautiful 1080p HD graphics rivaling some of the best, but I admit that would be a lot of work and would take years, and every game designer probably has their own ideas that they want to work on… Who knows whether it will happen or not? You never know, when I get my degree I may work for Square Enix and work on the remake if it happens (which could take years). If enough people want it, it'll happen (Like the Okami sequel which people said would never happen… even if it is going to the DS).

Yeah Ocarina of Time is an action-adventure game.

On to FF7. Remake and not remastered…Thank God. I'd love to see differences as opposed to the exact same game with different graphics. That way comparisons aren't made and people aren't disappointed by it. There's just something about the original thing that makes it awesome…memories maybe.

There will never be an FFVII remake, first they teased everyone with a FFVII in HD graphics, then from time to time they always revive this rumour once it died down.

If they seriously wanna do it then they probably told us something or is this just a lame way to hype a game?

cant remember which dev studio, but one that closed recently, they were working on a few FF related titles and they were apparently working on a remake of FF 7.
im sure some one will pick up what they have done and finish it off, its a much to popular series to leave hanging.
but than one could say the same thing about BLACK, or syphon filter or the getaway or driver.
such popular games.
BLACK renowned to be the best FPS ever to be made still, after several years after release.
syphon filter, well i dont need to say anything about that except its my favorite PS1 game and favorite PSP game.
that one is a no brainer, its sonys halo WTF? 3 years after release and STILL! no announcement.
the getaway and driver, again immensely popular titles back in the day.
the only true competitors to GTA, saints row gets to roll with GTA but these dont?
WTF?
the sh*t is in, and the gold plated diamonds are out?
WTF?
has this industry gone mad!

I can still do without a remake. I've played and enjoyed the original and still own the original PS and PC versions. If anything I still want to see the original Final Fantasy and FF6 remade. FF6 especially.

I'll jump into this and say that I played FF7 first and found FF8 a lot better and its my favorite RPG to date and I've played plenty of RPGs. It seems like the first game to open the doors to the rest of the series such as Ocarina of time and how it opened the doors to Majora's mask and Metal Gear Solid opened the doors to MGS 2 and MGS3. With Ocarina of Time I can understand, I think it's the best one that has come out but with Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid, I don't think they're the best after Playstation was introduced. Metal Gear is my favorite series and I've played all of them plenty of times and I think MGS4 and MGS3 are the best in the series. As far as FF I think FF7 has this hype chakra around it and it has given birth to what a lot of people are calling the best RPG ever.

I know I'm not alone when I say that I found Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne a lot more enjoyable than Final Fantasy 7.

Now if only he would go on and say "Someone in the company will probably do a CHRONO TRIGGER Remake."

If Only……………………..
