FIFA 10: Fastest Selling Sports Video Game Ever

It may have gotten lost in the shuffle of massive holiday blockbusters like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 , Assassin's Creed II and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves , but that didn't stop it from achieving massive success.

EA has revealed that FIFA 10 has now sold over 4.5 million copies worldwide , making it the single fastest selling sports video game ever made. You have to remember that this title only launched in Europe on October 2 and in North America on October 20, so to rack up four and a half million in this span of time…well, that's pretty damn phenomenal. We may notice people going crazy for Madden in this country, but clearly, FIFA is even bigger than Madden once you take the rest of the world into account. Well, of course. Soccer is the world's sport while football is really more of a US thing. To keep interest firmly fixed on FIFA 10 , EA has also announced the first piece of downloadable content for the game: the "FIFA 10 Ultimate Team," which is set to be released to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace soon. It's a stellar simulator and it's now plain that EA has really worked to put themselves back on top of the sports world in many different categories. I may not be the biggest fan, but you have to appreciate such immense popularity and besides, anything that sells 4.5 million in just over a month just has to be something special. Doesn't it?

It'll definitely be in the running for Sports Game of the Year when we get right down to it. 2009 has indeed been amazing, but don't discount the sports titles 'cuz they've shined, too.

That's becuae in britain, everyone with half a braincell who owns a console will buy a sports game without givig a shat as to whether its any different from the previous one.
Some of them are so dumb, they're like "It's 2010, that means its new. zomgs. Blud, its so cool."

And that's different from Americans buying Madden every year because….

I would get this game if you could be Peru as an International team.

No surprise, I sometimes actually spend time on this online more than MW2. It never gets boring especially if your a soccer fan.

Aston Villa has been my best online team so far. Oh an I hate those who take Chelsea and Barcelona. Anelka runs like its a marathon and Ibrahimovic with his big structure keeps shoving defenders off, cheats! Anyhoo Milner, A.Young, Agbonlahor and co do the work for me.

And expect to meet a whole lotta quitters in there. And you won't go a day without getting insults. Fifa 10 is just so much FUN.

Does it have to be FIFA 10, or can it be an older one to get the same entertainment value and save some scratch at the same time?

The last Fifa I bought was 08, and it was pretty good. Fifa 10 is supposed to be the best one in years, that's why it's selling like hot cakes. It's a quality game.

I'm actually a gooner, I support the gunners of Arsenal but they kinda fail in the game and so far Villa has just got the work done for me.

Soccer is a popular sport in the rest of the world, that's for sure.

Even though I coach youth soccer, I still like the NFL.

My Boss got me FIFA 2010 but I did not have a chance to play it yet, will give it a run on the weekend.
My team Flamengo is on the verge of becoming the national champions in Brazil so, my Futebol itch is stronger than ever 🙂

pigskin… lol thats the name for it. plus the CFL is better than the NFL. We got larger fields, but most importantly, we got bigger balls lmao.

You know lowkey.

Let's take the Super Bowl champion from this season and play a scrimmage game with the Grey Cup champion.

Two games, one NFL rules, the other CFL rules, and lets see what happens..LOL

OMG, that would be nuts, The Montreal Allouettes won the Grey Cup. On a side note, did you know Lex Luger from the WWF played for them and has 2 Grey Cup rings with them? lol

In England they call rolled tobacco fags, in the states they're called cigarettes. I have nothing against fags I just don't want to put one in my mouth….so I'll keep calling them cigarettes.

I'm right there with you. Hockey is the sport for me. There's no NHL team close enough to me to go watch live so I have to deal with our local team. It was in the ECHL since '96 but now it got degraded to the SPHL 🙁 But I'm happy we still have a team. Anyways, GO DETROIT!!

I've always wondered why we in the States ended up calling a game where you move the ball down the field with your feet Soccer, and stealing the name Football for a game where you're not allowed to touch the ball with your foot except at kickoff. Never made a lick of sense.

Perhaps something to google in my downtime. lol

I wonder if it is connected to why we call it a field instead of a pitch over here too. But Canada calls it soccer too, so we're not the only ones to call it that.

Japan also calls it soccer, but they coined the term from the US. In Canada the game probably spread from here so thats why they call it soccer.

The gameplay is slightly different each year. some years its a significant change. Plus they change all the teams etc with correct transfers and managers. So yeah I update my Fifa yearly now.

I spose it's the same as any sporting game really like Golf, or American Football.

Since there's documents of football being played in China around 200 B.C., I guess it's easy to see why it's the most popular sport. I prefer the speed and physicality of hockey, but I do watch the World Cup every four years.

The US will be screwed with their draw, as always 😉

it hurts to see a game like this sell so well, where a 10 times better game like infamous has still not broken the 2M mark.
no wonder companies are straying away from new IPs and milking well known franchises till there bone dry.
