Prince Of Persia: The Forgotten Sands Coming In May

Prince of Persia was one of our favorite games of 2008 and now, almost exactly one year after its release, Ubisoft has revealed that a new installment is in the works.

This according to El33tonline , and it comes as great news to all fans of the franchise. Last week, we heard Ubisoft had a mystery game to announce and personally, I was hoping it would be a new PoP…thankfully, it appears that wish has come true. The next entry will be called Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and should be available in May of 2010 for most all platforms. We have no details besides the following- "many of the fan-favorite elements from the original series as well as new gameplay innovations that gamers have come to expect from the Prince of Persia brand." Will it remain cel-shaded? Will it be a direct sequel featuring Elika? Will it utilize the same excellent co-op elements? We have no idea just yet but if the title is set for May, they must be well into development and we should start seeing new media and info very soon. This release should also coincide with the theatrical launch of Jerry Bruckheimer's "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" film featuring Jake Gyllenhaal. It looks decent.

But we're most excited about this new game. In terms of artistry and outstanding platforming, few titles can compete with this series over the past six of seven years.

Hopefully Nolan North returns as the Prince, too. I have no problem hearing that dude's voice in more games besides just Uncharted. He's an excellent actor!

great actor, but i heard too many complaints that PoP in 08 was basically Nate Drake, with arab clothes, and more hair.

Did you know that Nolan North played the part of Sigmund in R&C:ACIT, the junior care taker of the Great Clock who assists Clank? I couldn't believe it, too, but it says so in the credits.

The dude did back-up voices for celebrity actors like Christopher Walken and John Travolta too!

Nolan North is bloody amazing. His Walken is great! He's like in every game like Metal Gear.

Nice. Although shame I got really pissed with the Sands of Time game in the PS2. I was about near the end of the game and babysitting some princess when I jumped over some spikes to get to a save point. After I save she ALWAYS jumps onto the spikes. She jumps in everytime I load the game. Oh, and I didn't have another save slot since my card was full that time. Didn't touch PoP ever since 🙁

now i think about it, i can't remember a platformer a la PoP in this generation. clsiest thing was uncharted. that was more action avec puzzle/platform. ('avec' is 'with' in french.)
would be nice to see one. didn't invest in PoP in 08. too busy. maybe. but i cant wait. altho, so much to see nxt yr.

good news! hopefully its a sequal to Prince of Persia which i thought was a great game! I'd like to see more of that co-op element involved with Elika again!

I hope they give more background of the Prince this time around. I would have liked to see Elika's reaction to learning who he is. The story was great, but the DLC kind of killed it. I don't know were they are going to go with it now.

Never completed the first one. Hope they revive it a great deal like they did with ACII, less repetitiveness is all am saying. There was no life in the first too.

After healing the lands, I expected to see people and animals like any other game out there, apart from the Prince & Elika, the world felt like Mars, NO LIFE! Made me yawn all day.

PoP was a really fun game. I'm looking forward to the next one although I doubt I'll pay full price like I did last time.

The last one that came out was the first one that I played (there was nothing else appealing to me at that time) and I think it sucked pretty badly. I have never played a game that was so repetitive and redundant nor one that made me feel like stabbing the supporting role character (can't remember her name). That being said, I won't even waste my time watching a trailer for the next installment.

Is ACII the closest platformer a la PoP?

Mr Bitey

I would say so.

ACII is kind of like Infamous, PoP and Tomb Raider, rolled into one delicious ball of goodness. Lightly dashed with a bit of GTA and served over rice.

i really can not see where the comparisons come from.
yea there made by the same developer but there 2 different games.
might as well compare MW2 to AC2.
PoP is a fast paced game, its linear as they can come and the combat is fast.
AC2 is a slower paced game, open world, and combat is as slow as a snails pace.
i hate it that almost every attack you make gets blocked.
the only way to take out guards in AC is to counter, dodge than attack but than you only get 1 hit so you have to repeat that a few times.
or through a smoke bomb.
its much, much, much, much, much slower than PoP and gives you a million and one more choices to how you want to play.
so you cant really compare the two, if your trying to figure out if you will like it or not rent it i guarantee you will like it.
best multiplat title released this year, and there has been allot of good multis like batman AA.

I hated the fact that the game wont allow you to die. Its not a deal breaker but being saved everytime you make a mistake like that kinda kills it for me. i wouldnt mind the way they had a limited number of rewinds which made you conserve them.

I got this when it was cheap and took it back. I didnt like the not being able to die part. It made the platforming side of things lose that edge where most platformers you know you gotta make that jump or lose a life or some life etc. Being able to try infinity felt strange to me.

Yeah that not being able to die part was an interesting addition to the game. Can't believe I'm saying this but I like dying sometimes! But yeah I don't know this game was very repetitive. I loved the puzzles in the game and all but once I did something in the game I felt I had done everything…it needed some more tweaking IMO. The cell shading was cool. I wish there was more freedom involved during combat. Not the biggest PoP fan but I appreciate the franchise.

million dollar question is will it go back to its old nitty gritty roots like T2T or will it be a sequel to last years PoP.
me personally prefer the older more adult style of PoP, the two thrones the one where you had a psychotic evil side was brilliant best of the series.
i still liked the fantasy style of last years title, but i much prefer the good old gritty feel.
i say bring this one as the old style than bring the next one as the fantasy style.
make it like COD series, one old style, one new style, one old style, one new style ect.
this is one series that i really could not care less if its milked, because its allways a better game than the last.
so everyone complaining its being milked and has seen to many sequels can go jump.
i need my platforming fix, and lets be frank, that genre is severely lacking ATM.

Thats not a bad idea. I thought two thrones was the best one also. This is a series I won't get tired of and they have limitless possibilities.

Disappointed with the last re-iteration, here are the main gripes that should be resolved:

– Needs to to have the free-roaming aspect of Assassin's Creed II.

– Modified FIGHTING system of Assassin's Creed II.

– HECK, use the Schmitar engine 2.0 if you have to. Wall running/grinding is okay for me.

– NO more "button-timed" boss fights.

+ Keep the cel-shaded graphics.

+ And Elika

+ And Nolan NORTH.

"NO more "button-timed" boss fights." – AMEN to that!

This fighting system was unique from ACII. I don't want this game's system to be like ACII. It was very fun on its own.
As for the button-timed boss fights, those are sometimes fun, but seriously, do it like GoW does. Have us press a couple of buttons in sequence when the boss is almost dead or in order to destroy shielding. There was WAY too much button-timing for fighting in general in that game.
