SCEA, Best Buy Team Up For Sweet PS3/HDTV Bundle

If you didn't brave the crowds on Black Friday and score yourself an awesome PlayStation 3 bundle, have no fear; Sony is still fully prepared to make you happy.

You've probably noticed that Sony has seriously ramped up their marketing and promotion concerning the PS3 – Kevin Butler and his "It Only Does Everything" commercials are seeing some serious airtime – and they ain't stopping any time soon. As revealed by Peter Dille, SCEA Senior Vice President of Marketing and the PlayStation Network, over at the PlayStation Blog , Sony is teaming up with Best Buy to deliver yet another purchase incentive. This is a "unique collaboration featuring Best Buy's 'blue shirt' campaign," and this includes one very sweet bundle: it features a PlayStation 3, a Bravia HDTV, and your choice of a new game and Blu-Ray movie…and you can grab it all for $1100 (taking into account all possible savings, of course). This promotion will last for a couple weeks, so if this sounds appealing to you, make sure you strike between November 29 and December 12. If you wish to take advantage online, go right ahead . You can really enhance your home entertainment experience by springing for this and dear God, won't your friends be all sorts of jealous!

Of course, I know a lot of you have great setups at home already but for those who don't, we gotta get 'em up to speed, right?

sounds great…

Sony is pushing hard!

Sounds more like you can save $1100 rather than purchase it for $1100 though, consideering the t.v. has to be a 46" or bigger!

Man if I wasn't set up already I'd jump on that, my buddy is in the market but he's so set on a plasma I don't think I could budge him and he already bought the PS3 I've been bugging him about.

should have warned him, Plasma sucks
their colour fades over time a lot faster than LCD

The guy's a tough nut to crack, it took me this long to convince him to get a ps3, lol.

ive had my plasma (panasonic viera 37" 1080p) for coming up on 3 years and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. its been a phenomenol t.v. i think you saying plasmas losing color over time is pure opinion. I personally like plasmas because most good plasmas run at 600hz which is far superior than most popular brand lcd and led t.v. the higher that number the less color fade and blurriness you get especially in high definition. what that means is with plasmas your looking directly at colors being produced with lcds you still have to wait for those color to shift and that causes motion blur. most lcd' run at about 80hz i think but some push around 120hz while panasonic has a monster that runs at 420hz. but even those numbers dont touch most plasmas 600hz. not too mention some lcd' have horible viewing angles, and are never as bright as plasmas and plasmas refresh quickly.

most bad rumors of plasmas have dissapeared, as they have become a great t.v. ill never buy anything but. but again thats just my personal preference.

It is true. Personal preference is the key. However, I can stand the 5ms refresh rate of a LCD but my tick is the lower resolution of a Plasma to LCD.

Best example is an LCD versus a Plasma in a stationary PS3 1080p screensaver. You'll notice that the LCD is sharper. THAT, believe it or not is my reason for buying a LCD. Plasma pixels are too big unless you sit 15ft away, so they will disappear.

bigrailer19
bigrailer19

Its not really 15ft away, that me be an exxageration. I sit about 5-7 feet away i guess and my plasma is much brighter and sharper than all 5 of our t.v.s in the house which is a 50" plasma vizio, a 32" samsung lcd, a 42" zenith lcd, and a 56" samsung led.

Im not saying i have the best t.v. in the house but when it comes to quality and overall performance my plasma shines. Now that doesnt mean i hate the other t.v. cus they are all outstanding especially the LED which is quite amazing. But i cant look at te other ones and say i'd be happy to spend the money on them (even the vizio which is also a plasma). Mine i can which is a plasma.

In the stationary position maybe, but what when your watching a football game? You want to see the football blur across the screen? I dont! Fast movements cause the LCD to seem behind a little bit, which justified my purchase of a plasma.

But really you just have to be happy with you purchase. All t.v. have something others dont.

And arn't Plasmas cheaper than lcd, and i have never heard of an LED tv, is it good?

bigrailer19
bigrailer19

plasmas are not necessarily cheaper but in my opinion you pay fr what you get! meanign theres no reason to not like what you bought! plasmas bring alot to the table as do other t.v. like the LED.

LED t.v. are good but far to expensive right now.

but when comparing LCD to plasmas in price theres not too much of a big difference. Most plasmas with 720p, are ussualy a little cheaper than an LCD which projects in 1080p. But some plasmas in 1080p can run a little more than LCD. sometimes it just depends on the brand and sometimes it just depends on the deal you find like the one listed above!

you'd be surprised how cheap you can find t.v. if you research. I found a 42" panasonic viera plasma w/ 1080p for $649 which is half what i bought my 37" for 3 years ago. obviously prices have dropped in that time frame but if i'd a known it would drop that much i may have bought something to get me by until this time arrived. Although im very happy with my t.v. and i honestly cant say id have it any other way!

Funny, since all I see atm are ads from best buy saying that MW2 is a great game and should only be played on the xbox 360 because of the great graphics, community, and LIVE is awsome.

Don't they talk about how large the community is? Yet didn't MS recently perma-ban 1,000,000 Xbox360s? Seems like their community is shrinking.

Yeah, when you click on the link it shows you a total savings up to $1,118. I scrolled down to see the prices on the Bravias and those aren't good prices at all. I've seen the one on the bottom for hundreds less than Best Buy's "sale" price. Unfortunate for the masses.

Here's an example. If you want the KDL-46W5100, then you can get it direct from Sony (refurbished) with a warranty for 1079.99. That's better than Best Buy and you can trust the warranty directly from the manufacturer. Link: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&XID=O:kdl46w5100%2Fbstock:dg_ggldf&productId=8198552921665746328

Enjoy.

Best Buy's Sony isn't a refurb. It's not entirely fair to compare refurb prices against 'new' prices. Though I personally would have no problem with a refurb.

fluffer nutter
fluffer nutter

We know it's not a refurb but refurbished doesn't necessarily mean that anything was done physically to the monitor itself. They may have updated the paperwork with the item and, if you buy it direct from the manufacturer, you can ask them why the item is classified as "refurbished". I know there are better deals on these new TV's if people would just shop. Too bad they're too lazy and don't want to save hundreds, if not thousands.

dam now i really wish i did not buy my TV when i did.
if i waited 3 months i could of got a 40 inch 1080P LCD instead of the 32 inch 720P.
and sony had their bravia ps3 deal on then too so i would of got a free ps3.
🙁
though i dont know whats with their marketing latley.
god i have seen so many adds for NFSS or fifa 2010 or MW2 but none for U2 or R&C or even NGS2.
almost like they dont want you buying their games only third party.

That's been my problem with their sets. I wasn't happy with the color output and clarity for the price. Sony likes to charge a considerable amount more for less features.

my g/f just picked u a Sony bravia 32" for $358 on black friday from wal-mart, honetsly its a great t.v. i know ive heard some bad things but this t.v. is good and for being an lcd the viewing angle isnt too horrible either.

Well, I'm glad you like your new TV… At least you have one lol. I was just making a comparison though. I've seen the Sony TVs side by side with other TVs and the picture really is what Fluffer also says. It's pretty dull. Though I do disagree fluffer. Sony LCDs are among the cheapest TVs out there.

Where are you seeing them as being the cheapest priced TV's out there? Are you saying this in comparison to Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Phillips, etc.?

sony TVs are bloody expensive.
there normally 200-400 bucks more than a samsung and 100-200 bucks more than a Panasonic or Toshiba.
like the TV i got 32 inch 720P LCD sony D series for 1700 bucks.
the equivalent in a samsung was 1300 and the equivalent Panasonic or Toshiba were 1500 bucks.
and both the Panasonic and the Toshiba had upscalers in them so they could display at 1080P where the sony cant.
i only chose the sony because myer were offering 2 years extra warranty for free, where if i bought the Toshiba or Panasonic it would of cost me a extra 200 bucks extra for 1 year instead of 2.
