Now that we have a solid North American release date for Final Fantasy XIII , we're trying to dig up as much information as possible.
Now, if this piece of evidence is legit, we have some good news for PlayStation 3 owners: according to the Unofficial FFXIII Site , details on the back of the game box have been leaked to the Internet. It's the Japanese version but that shouldn't matter; essentially, we learn that the PS3 version will not have either a mandatory or optional install, which is good news for those with smaller hard drives. While it's certainly easy to upgrade to a bigger HDD, those with older 20GB or 40GB machines are often annoyed when they run out of space. Furthermore, the technical information shows high-quality LPCM 5.1 audio and CGI sequences in full 1080p resolution. This is interesting news because we know the game itself runs at 720p but apparently, those awesome cut-scenes we've seen in past trailers will be displayed in brilliant 1080p goodness. In addition to the fact that FFXIII's White Engine was initially designed for the PS3 (which makes us believe the 360 version won't be quite as good), these details prove that if you're a multi-console owner, it'd make the most sense to nab the PS3 version of FFXIII. It seems to be the logical choice.
We've recommended differently in the past (especially in regards to several inferior PS3 ports back in 2007) but in this particular case, the more we hear, the more it becomes clear that the PS3 version of the most anticipated RPG of the generation will be preferable.

FFXIII Like a Boss
I don't know. My screen flickers pretty bad when it changes resolution. That could get annoying. Maybe I'll have a newer tv by then.
Watch them crank it down to 720p in the west just to match the 360 version.

thats something squenix would do
If they do that at least they won't be able to lie about it.
You jinxed it worldends! Knock on wood!!!
woops sorry 🙂
I hate the Xbox. Microsoft should just stick to making Windows…
playstation is THE BEST place for FF
PERIOD
I wish there was an optional install. I'd happily give up a few GB for even a slightly smoother experience.
me too, if anything is choppy I'm gonna be one upset gamer.
Definitely
1080p graphics that have been dumbed down/compromised is still not the best that it is capable of.
Naughty Dog did a great job with 720p and I've always thought Square's artwork and design were top notch, so I'm inclined to think they'll do a good job for the ps3.
There was never a doubt in my mind that the PS3 version was the one to get. Do they honestly think FF fans have all jumped ship to the 360? Can't wait to see the sales numbers.
And its the other way round, 360ers have jumped ship to PS3.

I'm not too sure about that.
But obviously the PS3 version will sell more, not to mention it's Ps3 exclusive in Japan.
XBOX 360 Can install any games in the HD I fear this its going to bea great pro about the 360 version getting more faster loading .
Both versions are read by a beam of light, although the blue wavelength in the light spectrum moves slower than red, you'll never see the difference. The bluray drive moves slower, but more information can be read at one time with blue light. So the ps3 can load more information faster.
yea but running a game off the HDD is much faster than running a game off disk.
thats why when i had my 360 every single game i owned was installed onto the drive that way it loads faster, less wear and tare on the disks and drive and also less noise.
the 360s DVD drive makes more noise than a 747 taking off.
all its missing is the 3,2,1, we have lift off.
I'm trusting in the quality that Sony is known for. They built that name way before they made game consoles. I expect my bluray drive to handle it, and if not, then I expect my next drive to handle it.
i wish all games would offer up a hard drive install as a option so i dont have to wait so long for games to load.
also i wish developers would make all there games viewable in 1080P or i wish sony would make a selection where you can have multiple resolution choices and the ps3 will automatically choose the one supported.
it gets really annoying constantly having to change my TVs res, because some games display in 1080P and some dont.
like uncharted 2 or assassins creed 2 or MW2 all display in 1080P, but than i went to play rouge assassin today and since i had 720P off it downscale to 526P.
the ps3 should automatically detect the highest resolution supported and choose that, that way if a game does not support 1080P it will automatically go to 720 instead of the default 526P.
Hmm, I really wouldn't mind optional (I repeat – OPTIONAL) install on HDD even though I have 40GB HDD. Firstly – the loading times would be shorter, secondly – it would make my laser lens live longer (my first one just died few days ago after 15 months of usage). So what it takes ie. 10GB of space? Just delete something you dont play from long ago… trust me – you wont be playing anything else when FF13 comes out:)

But Ben, that tool from the Gears article promised the 360 version was In 1080p while the PS3 version isn't! How does he know? Because MS prints 1080p on the back of every box and posted the 1080p trailer on LIVE for all to see!
/Facetious.
good to know. I had a feeling this was going to be the case. A) the game was developed on the PS3 then ported to the box, B) it's running on a blue ray disc and C) I had a feeling Square, while they have been less then supportive of the PS3 thus far, would deliver a solid Final Fantasy. I was worried there for awhile but this news is refreshing.

Honestly, I already know I'm going to enjoy this game. Although the character models aren't all that awesome (I'm glad Lightning is though) the RPG drought will finally end…and the prospering will begin. Give us the best game you can SE, we've been waiting long enough!
Yea I'm not that impressed with the models either. They don't look terrible but after Uncharted, MGS4 and Killzone 2, You can tell Square is no longer the leader in break through graphics.
And to think that FFX has one of the best graphic in the 6th gen.
I always thought FFXIII would satisfy my hunger for great graphics but it seems that MGS4 and Killzone 2 done it for me.
Exactly. Then Square out did X with XII. but If Square doesn't start think about quality over quantity again like the PS2 days and start focusing on the PS3 they'll never outdo those who have out done them. Kojima, Naughty Dog, Guerilla, etc.
Here's hoping Square does what Ben suggests could happen.
Can't wait till those guys at Digital Foundry compare and contrast everything to the last bit and try to give the 360 some advantage the least chance they get.

seriously dude…
If I wasn't so full of turkey I'd run over and punch you in the eye.
Don't be shocked to see the 360 version outsell the PS3 one in the US and Europe.
So the PS3's version get's the "definitive" experience. Yes, the gameplay/graphics may be the same but these "extra" features are totally out-of-the-box. I wish future companies would do the same in the future.
Though…..
Japanese Audio with English subs is STILL heads-above-hells when it comes to JRPG's.
now all we need is English subtitles
Nah, we don't need english subs and japanese voice, just enjoy it in your own language and quitcherbitchin, SE may be lame but they don't screw up their voice acting. Balthier anyone? Auron? HELLO!

Agreed.
The only Final Fantasy voice work I didn't enjoy was Tidus. And even that was tolerable
then the japanese voices wouldn't match the mouths on the US EU versions because the mouths will be speaking English
I just learned a new word. Thanks WorldEnds
A lot of people would like to have the option at least. It's a bluray disc, they could probably fit the Japanese audio along with the English audio AND dual subtitles as well as the mouth movements for both languages….oh yeah, the XBox…fucking microsoft.
