Beat 'em ups really need to make a return in this generation, but for now, we'll settle with revisiting the old-school classics.
According to IGN , Capcom has revealed that Final Fight: Double Impact will hit the PSN and XBLA in April of 2010. It's not called "Double Impact" because it's somehow based on the Van Damme movie; it has that title because when you download it, you'll also receive another classic: Magic Sword . If you love the side-scrolling adventures of yesteryear, you're gonna love these two games; in fact, it's very likely you're quite familiar with both, provided you're old enough. We'll also get two separate visual modes; one of them boasts the original look of the game while the other makes it "shine in crisp and clear HD glory." We're not entirely sure how Final Fight would look in high-definition, but we certainly appreciate the effort. We're don't yet know how much this one download is going to cost, but for both games mentioned here, I imagine many veteran gamers would be willing to shell out at least a few bucks. Right?
Yeah, you've got something similar with that special mode in Tekken 6 but there's really nothing like the old-fashioned side-scrolling brawlers.

This sounds cool. I hope it has online multiplayer (something the Sega Collection sorely, sorely needed.)
you're so correct. I was hoping the Sega Collection had online play but it didn't. Playing Streets Of Rage 1-3 over PSN with a buddy would have been so awesome. I'm glad Capcom is bringing Final Fight to PSN, but I would MUCH rather have Double Dragon. And not a port of that crappy HD remake that's on Live Arcade, that version sucks with it's crappy collision detection. Reminds me of trying to play Double Dragon on the Sega Master System.
That'd be awesome no doubt!
I guess Sega's reasoning was "back in the day you didn't need online, did you?"
But I agree, online multiplayer for beat 'em ups is essential and would make it twice as fun
It's better to kick some ass with a friend than alone
dont give me that back in the day there was no online, Sega. The Gunstar Heroes had online multiplayer. I wonder if they could add it to a few of the Sonic Collection games via update. Obviously not all of them would use it, but the 3 Streets of Rage at least??

sweet as long as its not 25 bucks like MGS is.
i was really excited and looking forward to playing that than shook my head in disgust when i found its price.
i bought pandemonium 1 2 oddworld abes exedous abes oddessy, crash 1,2,3,CTR,bash, MGS1, spyro1,2 and G police for 40 bucks off ebay.
if i were to buy them off the PSN store it would cost me over double that.
Yeah, but you can't transfer those ebay games to your PSP and play them wherever you want, or store them on your PS3.
MGS was 15 bucks on the Aussie PSN store. Totally worth it! Got it immediately, transfered it straight to my PSP and can now play it and FF7 wherever I go.
Keep up the good work Sony. All we need is an effective party chat for online play with friends, then Xbots will have nothing left to fire at PS3 fans. SO close.
you can you just need the right software.
i found a program that will rip a game and put into the correct format for use to transfer onto a memory stick for use with a psp.
there is also guides on the web on how to convert ps1 games off disk to a memory card.
so i can use my old ps1 games which i surprisingly have kept.
now all i need to do is find a 32GB memory stick and my psp has turned into a portable ps1.
Yes. I will definitely get this. Ah, to memories of wasting quarters. I miss that old arcade feeling.
Might hafta buy, I loved the old side sroll beatemups, especially Double Dragon and Streets of Rage. Of course they will probably charge an arm and a leg for that small HD upgrade.
guess what.. ..not for European SCEE PSN users. as usual.. SCEE PSN is totally a joke!
You got just a few games on SCEE PSN. And they're useless worst games with highest prices. Such an amazing combination.

Now only if we can get a HD remake of Streets of Rage 1&2, Battle Toads vs Double Dragons, Strider, and VectorMan…*prays that a Sony Exec sees this comment*
I'll give 'em $5 for this. More than and I'll keep my money for the bargain bins.
Hi:
Well, This are GREAT news for people like us that played those games on the Arcade. To be honest, I prefer the Classic Style and not the "polished" Style like the new TMNT IV. It's just Crap. I want this games with the same "Feeling" like before.
Exactly
That Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles remake was painful…Nothing like the original
Capcom's smart, they'll definitely keep the old-school look and feel, at least I hope so.
Yes, as long as you can play online with both these games, I will buy it. Final Fight is the King Daddy of side-scrolling beat 'em ups. Oh, no more than $9.99 for the two games. To be honest, $6.99 should be the price. This isn't a TMNT: Reshelled kind of upgrade.
Can't wait!
Don't care 'bout the price
Final Fight is no doubt the best beat 'em up of ALL TIME!
So going to support this series. And I hope they make a true next-gen beat 'em up.
This is way better than the stuff you find in Tekken, since the game itself was based on being a "beat 'em up" unlike Tekken.
final fight together with double dragon and golden axe are the best side rolling fighting action games in old times, three of my favorite in old school days.
