We were interested to see how our readers view the state of online gaming and for the most part, it seems it's typically an enjoyable experience although the jerks and creeps are usually unavoidable.
The majority of you clearly think it's well worth your time to log on and have a few rounds of Modern Warfare 2 or some other game, but a good number do have significant problems with the level of stupidity frequently displayed during online matches. We've heard complaints in the past about all sorts of verbal abuse – even racism and sexism – in addition to those who simply wish to act like dopes and ruin everyone's good time. For whatever reason, you just can't do much about this problem but there is a fairly obvious solution: stick with playing with Friends or at least those you've played with before. Many say this is the best and easiest way to have a blast online without suffering through the verbal trough of disgusting insults and ignorant rants. Personally, I rarely play online anyway but when I do, it's almost always with people I know; the one time I played against strangers in the past few months revealed a certain sickness amongst those people that was just downright depressing.
Anyway, on to the topic at hand: that ultra-controversial terrorist scene in the aforementioned MW2. If you're not familiar, the level has you playing as an undercover agent when terrorists open fire on civilians in an airport lobby. The question is, do you see this as art, so we shouldn't question Infinity Ward's vision? Or do you simply say that it fits the storyline, despite the questionable material? For my part, I found it tasteless and just plain unnecessary; you can't hide behind the "realistic" comment because there isn't an undercover agent from any government that would just start slaughtering innocents so as not to blow his cover. Yeah, I think not. And as for the story, you could've shown it to us in a cinema; having us do it was a bad call. I have yet to meet someone who didn't feel uncomfortable when playing through that, and if you don't , I would suggest seeking help.
So what's your take on the matter? And do me a favor and keep the Comments civil; this is the kind of topic that can breed a lot of bad feelings, so take it easy.
Personally, I didn't see anything wrong with the level to be honest. Mainly it's because it's just a game, and if faced with this situation properly, I would never be able to end that many real innocent lives. But at the end of the day, it is a game, and nothing that happens in the game affects what happens in real life. If people are really bothered about this level, then skip it…it gives you the option to

Sorry Ben, usually I agree with you but on this subject we will have to agree to disagree. I will say that IW could have found a different path to show how ruthless Makarov is but I have more of a problem with the immature online community than the level in MW2. It has gotten to the point where I turn on my headset and just lay it on the table to avoid the childish comments and loud music.
All i have to say is, if you don't want to listen to kid's complain, scream, cussing, and etc. Don't play online at all. Just ignore them i know that's easy to say but try, if there on the other team just kill them. =D
Nowadays it doesn't matter what the rating is of the game kid's parents will still get it for them no matter what.
But what i do is play with people who i know online, rarely i will play with other people i don't know. But i find it more fun with people who i know, but for me it depends on the person who i play with, if the person is very funny and has a good personality and can have a good time I'll stay online.

If anyone wants to play MW2 add my PSN ID: Zoryu_of_Setsuna (If you add me just say you're from PSXE.)
call me disgusting, but i found it funny
most of these jerks feel like theres no reprocussions therefore they do whatever they want, like that guy from san jose who got banned by PSN,
sorry to say it but its the hard reality of life, people dont have the balls to say it to real person, so they'll say it online, its easy to call someone a "N-#&#)" or whatever
i can take the trash talk and all that but the racism, and sexism or whatever, is just stupid
My god dachemists? Sexism is bad? Havent you ever slapped your woman's ass and told her you love her? Wussy.
End of Line.
Playing online on a PS3 isn't that bad. Honestly, I exclusively play games that don't require conversation since I don't have a headset and I've had some fun.
Sadly, on the 360, everybody has a headset and many of them are quite unsavory. I ran into some strange people online often. Kids, people who were high on something, people who played lame rap music instead of talking and people with potty mouths. The cool ones were not the norm but the exception.
I don't like talking anyway. If the game goes an hour, you might have to start talking about your private life to these strangers.
As for MW2, the terrorist scene sadly does happen in the real world. Infinity Ward decided not to sanitize the situation in this case. As disturbing as the scene is, it's realistic in this case. I applaud them for showing the true horrors of war to people, to show how senseless it can be. Maybe now people realize why I'm so anti-war. War is good for nothing at all, as Edwin Starr would say.

To jaybiv,
Maybe you misunderstood me or I failed to thoroughly explain my position. These scenes do affect some people like myself; however, in the end I know that what takes place in a virtual world doesn't affect reality. I think you missed that part. I'm just saying that some people play games and then other people play games but also analyze and examine a games contents and the many different situations which occur in a game and question why they were inputted. There is bound to be controversy over scenes like these with the attacks on our home-soil. I know it is just a game and does not display our reality but it can spark a conversation like this one…hehe. Don't get me wrong though, I don't mind the scene. It's just a game.
