Ah, Special Editions. So heavy on the wallet but so pretty to look at.
Just about every major release these days gets a special or limited edition of some kind, so it should come as no surprise that 2K is preparing a very sweet package for next year's Bioshock 2 . This overwhelming bundle will feature a massive 164-page hardcover art book (perfect coffee table adornment), no less than three different posters, the soundtrack on CD and – wait for it – the orchestral score also provided on a vinyl 180g LP. Man, I knew this retro thing was big, but will this generation of gamers embrace the old-school record idea? It's a collectible, no doubt about it, but who out there even has the means to play it without raiding the attics of their parents (or grandparents)? But hey, publishers need certain gimmicks to sell these pricey special editions; we're getting all the content of the God of War III SE in a gorgeous Pandora's Box, and let's not forget about those night vision goggles in the Prestige Edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 . Is this particular Special Edition featuring a vinyl record worth the admission price of $99? Well, we leave that decision to you.
Bioshock 2 is scheduled to hit store shelves on February 9, so you've got time to ponder. Many of you may save your money for that aforementioned GoWIII bundle, but in all honesty, we want Bioshock 2 almost as much. It's gonna rule, guaranteed.

Interesting and actually, there'd be a lot of people that would be able to listen to the vinyl. Vinyl still going strong at the shops. Unfortunately, I haven't been getting as many as I should. Collection has slowed down a bit due to financial reasons. I can't be spending $400/mo. on the stuff anymore.
I meant per week.
more people collect vinyl than youd think. the sound quality is AWESOME.
That is true. It feels like the band is in the recording studio!!
I must say that this is pretty sweet. I know that I'm the only person in the world who wasn't that fond of the first Bioshock, but that doesn't mean I can't give the second one a whirl. I don't think that it'll be a $100 whirl, but a whirl nonetheless.
"Bioshock 2" is looking good for me too. I was waiting for the second one to see what improvements overall, including technical ones. This gift pack looks the business… worth the wait for the second one to be honest; you get so much more of everything… Logic is working out well 🙂
Q!
"i am home"
My dad is at this time coverting all his vinyals over to CD it's going to take him years… He has over 3,000 the basement is covered wall to wall.
This is pretty cool, just not for me though unless I can have a bigdaddy stuffy LOL JK
Can't wait to pick up my copy up 🙂
Oh. Cool. I love vinyls. I own just about every colored vinyl NOFX has released along with some Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. This Ideas fits Bioshocks theme well.
oh man those vinyls sound so good. A friend of mine has a few of the Sublime limited presses as well.
Wait with all your conservative talk Jawnkee you are a NOFX fan? LMAO!!! WOW!!!
Don't have to agree with Fat Mikes poltical views in order to admire his musical abilites. I love their music and music in general. The one thing I love more then games. I've been listening to NOFX for 20 years. I've met the band on serveral occasions all very warm and friendly and we found no agreement on anything we talked about but the bands we liked.
If a bands political views were the standard for the music I liste to, then I wouldn't listen to music.
I also like Propagandi and a great cheese burger.
So many special editions, need them all!!!
better then MW2's crappy night vision goggles or GTA$'s 5 dollar stash box and 2 dollar duffel bag. But not as good as the dagger thing that came with Uncharted 2.

BioShock was my GOTY in 2007. I might buy this special edition. Don't know what I would do with the vinyl record, though. Maybe I would give it to my friend, who has a huge vinyl record collection.
If I had the money I would buy this just so I could mix with it. Orchestra music makes for some interesting mixes. Just look at all the people who have mixed down O Fortuna from Carmen Burana and made it sound just great.
Cool idea, but I haven't laid eyes on a record player in years. Maybe Fallout New Vegas will come with an 8 track 🙂
BFBC2 the beta is live download now
Definitely looks "neat" but not entirely sure if I'll be putting 100 bucks down for it..
It would be interesting to test out the record though. My parents recently bought an antique so I'd love to give the record a shot on it.
nice, and actually, i've still got a vinyl player, nd wud love a few vinyls.
I don't think BS2 will be as popular as some people think it will be. Clamoring around as a Big Daddy was not the highlight of the first game.
Im really excited about this game. Even though i didnt play the first one but i did play the demo, it still looks fun playing as a big daddy. I also wanna fight a big sister xD
i love special editions, sony better bring that ultimate GOW3 edition here otherwise there going to find a present on their doorstep.
assassins creed 2 black edition is fu***ng amazing beautiful completley fu***ng beautiful!
beautiful crafted case, with viewing window, beautiful leather bound art book, beautiful big figurine.
sony THIS is how you do a limited edition, not that paper book crap you had for R&C ACIT.
i swear sony are such tight a$$e$ i can not believe i payed 130 bucks for that.
its just the normal game plus a art book which is in the same material as the game manual, would of cost them 2 bucks to make.
where assassins creed 2s one was bound in freaking leather with the logo and name etched into it.
now thats how you make a limited edition.
bioshock one was ok, batman AA one was reasonable but if you want a true high quality limited edition AC2 black edition takes the cake.
show them how its done ubisoft there my favorite publisher because they show there games and not run their mouth off.
and there not completley up themselves, cough EA cough!
they always turn out high quality games, and are not tight a$$e$ when it comes to limited editions.
I loved the first Bioshock so I'll probably pick this one up too. And Sony has a nice turntable that they make for around $80 for those that are interested. Turntables are easier to find than you think. Most have a cd/radio combo built in too.
Whenever a new album comes out, I always check to see if it will be released on vinyl, cause that's the version I'll most likely buy. I got a turntable and a small collection (about 50) of vinyl records set up in my room, right by my computer. If I really had money to blow through, I would get this for sure, but even with the vinyl soundtrack, which I would love, I doubt I'll get it.
Worship the vinyl!
I've got about 400 albums in my music collection, and about 25-30 of them are of those now-rare picture discs.
