Perhaps this theory is logical: if a series starts out exclusive to one platform and eventually becomes a multiplatform franchise, the most popular version will be the one on that original platform. We've seen it time and time again this generation.
Now, take Tekken 6 , for example. The legendary fighting series that began its career on the original PlayStation is now a multiplatform series; the most recent installment, Tekken 6 , just hit store shelves at the end of October for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. However, according to PS3Center , the PS3 version is indeed outperforming the 360 version so far at retail. We don't have exact numbers just yet but we certainly wouldn't be surprised if such sources proved correct. As an added and interesting note, it seems the game isn't doing quite so well as one may have anticipated; it has sold somewhere between 175,000 and 300,000 total and although that's pretty damn good for only 5 days at retail (counting only October stats), it might be a little under expectations. Remember, Street Fighter IV sold a combined 700,000 in only 8 days, so…
But if Tekken 6 continues to rise on the sales charts, it's likely we'll see the PS3 version taking the top slot. It's just that long-time PlayStation fans identify the series with the PS brand.

How is this game, is it worth the full $60 purchase? I heard it has some bad reviews. How does this compare with street fighter?
its pretty good, campaign is pretty long too. then theres arcade and scenario arena so it should last a while. However i powered through my copy because i wanted to get a platinum trophy. The good thing is that all characters are unlocked from the beginning so you can just jump in on multiplayer and play. my only problem with it is that loading screens are everywhere even after installation.
this is no suprise to me. the 360 controller is awful for fighting games. right now the ps3 version is @ 500k. that's not too bad for only being out two weeks. i wish they would have stayed exclusive though.

and it's only @ 200k on 360
A Multiplat game selling more on the PS3!! Maybe SCE should consider throwing a world wide party to celebrate this rarity.
HeXeN,
You keep posting comments like this one which have NO basis in reality, despite the fact that people like myself and The Highlander correct you.
Please go to VGChartz and do some research before you comment again.
Sorry if this is pissy, but people spreading misinformation annoys me.
p.s. I know VGChartz isn't perfect, but it is the best source available.

let me first bring you back to the PS1 days when tekken was the fighter to have! well it was for me!
i remember my dad bringing home tekken 3 and o boy was i happy! he also bought me a tekken 3 gamepad to play it with! what day that was!
anyways point is tekken was always a sony playstation exclusive fighter. and i think for the Sony fans out there tekken still is and still hits at home with us, more than other console consumers! this will be a christmas gift though, i desperately need a fighter!

memories memories. i remember my friend got tekken 3 for his birthday. one of my fondest moments in fighting game history
It seems no non FPS game can post decent sales numbers these days 🙁
My theory is that all the FPS fans from the PC finally realized that their gaming platform is dead, and decided to migrate to condoles, thus the crazy high numbers for any half assed crappy expansion games like Halo:STD and games like MW2.
I hope it keeps on selling thou in a regular basis and enough to justify tthe continuation of the series.
They need to remake this game from the ground up. Has barely changed since 1996.
End of Line.
Its a tried and tested formula, they dont need to completely revamp it because fans of the series would get pissed off. I do hate the juggling part though.
Not sure what you're talking about, but whatever. The series has made leaps since '96 and if you don't think so, go back and play every single Tekken game, and then play Tekken 6. If you still feel the same way, then something must be wrong, or you just haven't played Tekken 6.
Drithe, spoken like a true gamer who doesn't know wtf he is talking about. Its made huge leaps since 96, what the hell r u talking about?
you fail, Drithe
Funny
This reminds me of those complaining 'bout SFIV
Fighting game + 360 controller = unplayable.
-Arvis
Lol Arvis 🙂
Q!
"i am home"
Yea I had broken knuckles doing multiple hadokens and shoryukens with the 360 controller!
That d-pad is like a freaking SPOON!
Seriously, the shape of it is like the hollow part of the spoon.
Such an insult to fighting game enthusiasts
SFIV had higher scores therefore it sold, Tekken 6 on the other hand isn't having so it sales are slow but all the same, I know I WILL enjoy Tekken 6 better than SFIV.
Well I'm not surprised its selling better on the PS3 but what leaves my jaw-dropped and mouth-opened are these Japanese friends I have who play Tekken 6 on 360 all the time as well as all other fighters like, SCIV,SFIV,Blazblue,VF5……Japanese?!

They gotta play SOMETHING on their 360s…
-Arvis
Simple- Tekken is an awesome franchise.
Wonder if it would have scored higher as an exclusive. Oh well, another one bites the dust.
It would look amazing, scored higher and sell 200 thousands copies less 🙁
Booo on poor sales, I think it's like that gum commercial where they are begging people to spit out their piece and put in a new one. People are just playing the hell out of the PS3 exclusives and leaving multiplats in the dust.
The following statement is a known fact:
The 360 controller is garbage for fighting games
Could be the reason why owners of the other console aren't buying it.
That, and who knows, maybe the consensus that most of them are FPS teens could be true…
COULD be true? more like it IS true. 1 of the reasons I gave up on Xbox 360 (besides it being the worst built console in gaming history and having to go through multiple consoles) and switched to PS3. All 360 really has are SHOOTING games, it's rediculous. Dont get me wrong, I love my fps but I love veriety more, and PS3 has more of it, or i should say more of it in quality games that I enjoy. Plus the majority of PSN community are adults, not "Wii Graduates" like on Live.
They shouldn't make the game a multiplatform in the first place if the playstation 3 version significantly outperforms the xbox 360 version.
They need to fix their online servers, its a hot mess on there. Friends i play with in Soul Calibur 4 at with minor lag cant play T6 with me without some major lag.
Get better netcoding or something. Heard the patch is coming to address this but not till December along with co op mode for scenario mode ( which btw is a horrible mode imo )
Most hardcore, tourney level players will get the practice offline of course, but that doesn't mean onliners should get shafted
Yeah bro, the online netcode needs fixing fast on this game. I think December would be an excellent time for a patch because that's when the a huge chuck of this game's sales is going to come from. Speaking of sales, I blame the Xbox again for hindering something, and it's something I don't care about. Yes, those sales number 360 fans love to elude themselves to so much.
It's quite obvious that Final Fantasy 13 will sell better on PS3 given that FF and Tekken are synonymous with the Playstation brand. However, one console is subject to piracy and the other is not. I'm sure plenty of 360 owners pirated a copy of Tekken 6 off some torrent site in order to tide themselves over before MW2 came out. Hopefully this will send the message to Namco and other major third parties when developing multiplatform games.
Once the netcode gets fixed, it will definitely make my Christmas. Not to sound like a brag, but I am at the Dragon Lord rank in Tekken 5 DRO as opposed to freaking 1st Dan in Tekken 6. It's impossible to get past that rank unless you like engaging in button mashing fests that would be Super Smash Bros to shame.
One more thing about Sales and Tekken. The series has sold a massive amount of copies in its lifetime. With each passing Tekken selling more than the previous game. I believe Tekken Tag went on to sell over 10 million copies. The early numbers for this game should be a little troubling to Namco given that it's on two consoles and 1 portable device. But I believe Christmas time and the holidays will really give Tekken 6 a boost.
Hey Aaron and Byakko, what y'all PSNs? I play Tekken on the weekends and prefer to play against ppl I know.
My PSN is Byakko2009.
my psn is my name on this site
I kinda enjoyed Tekken DR more…damn this game was a big let down for me.
gonna wait til price drops more.
This Tekken installment is awesome. The only knock I can find against the game is the Scenario Mode.
They should've kept the camera locked in a side view similar to what the Tekken Force Mode looked like on Tekken 3.
Besides that, the game is great. And they got new combos for some of my favorite characters. Greatness.
I preferred the Tekken Force Mode from Tekken 4. It's still the most fun I've had with ANY fighting game ever, second only to Street Fighter Alpha 3's World Tour Mode.
If the Scenario Campaign were more like T4's Force Mode, then T6 would be the perfect Tekken installment.
Besides that one minor complaint, though, T6 is amazing.
-Arvis
Tekken Force mode on Tekken 3 did it for me. I felt like I was playing Streets of Rage on a better console with more than 3 characters to play with.
Sega, Can I get a Streets of Rage Remake?
I second that sir. SEGA? remakes of old ass kicking games are good (except Sonic), so can we have them please? I'd like a remake of DOUBLE DRAGON too. I know it's not from SEGA but I'm sure they could handle it.
I've hear dalot of people saynig they're unhappy with the Scenario mode, i loved it, i couldnt stop playing it. i was upset at frist becuase i thought i had to be Lars but after the 1st stage you can select a character to use, Though i still dont understand why its not 2 player.
the reason is quite obvious.
the 360s controller is IMPOSSIBLE! to play fighting games with, the directional buttons suck!
if i remember right this is always the case, the ps3 version sells better than the 360 version its because of the controller.
yea you have the arcade sticks but
1 there a pain in the ass to use i hate them.
2 there bloody expensive.
I still cant believe they put Tekken 6 on the 360, its a definitive PS title. I've been playing them since the first. It just feels morally wrong. i think of the 360 control against the screen with Tekken on its just and incorrect!
Still T6 is a blast, I'm hoping to get it online soon, my uni-net is a pain, my connect is NAT Type 3, i keep ringing them but nothing happens.
Was always gonna happen from the start Tekken is a Playstation brand end of..the same will happen with Final Fantasy
Was always gonna happen from the start Tekken is a Playstation brand end of..the same will happen with Final Fantasy
Tekken has been a PS staple for years and many 360 owners don't see it a major purcahse like other games. Also it seem namco did not put a big push on the game. It did not get much coverage like in the past.
I disagree with that, they did many advertisments, heck some even turn up before i watch a youtube video (which kind of annoys me, but thats a different matter altogether.)
But I think its fair 360 owners in the majority wont appreciated it as much, remember MGS2:Subs on the XBOX? ? ?
