It's easily one of the most popular games of the year, so when Capcom announced the The Alternative Edition for Japan, North American gamers were a little peeved.
However, you needn't worry. As reported by GameSpot , this new edition that features all-new content plus support for Sony's new motion-sensing controller will be US-bound in the form of downloadable content. You'll be able to nab it off the PlayStation Network or Xbox Live Marketplace this coming spring, and that should give you a good excuse to revisit the land of the walking dead. Also, for all you veteran fans, you should know that this Alternative Edition boasts two heroes from yesteryear: Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine. They'll be included in a new episode that is based on that flashback scene you encounter in the RE5 storyline and in all honesty, we can't wait to see our favorite RE characters again. They're kinda like icons in the survival/horror genre, you know? RE5 is the type of game that could always use extra content; excuses to justify another play-through and come spring, y'all might be interested in that idea. Then again, maybe you're already anticipating RE6…
We don't have a price just yet but we'll give you that info when it becomes available. We might not get the disc, but we're getting the next best thing!
Related Game(s): Resident Evil 5
But…isn't Chris Redfield already in RE5 normally? Lol
Yea I was thinking…
Sure hope he meant Leon Kennedy.
No, the DLC stars Chris and Jill, both of whom are already in the full game. But that's not the point. The point is that it is a new scenario. One that makes no sense, but whatever. Leon is not a part of RE5 at all.
That's depressing and pointless, putting it characters that are already in, and both already having that costume. Sigh…Capcom. Just put in Leon and everyone would buy it.
They will have different costumes. And why would Leon be in it? He's overrated. Anyway, the pointless part is the DLC itself. What kind of enemies are they going to face in Spencer's hidden estate? It just doesn't make sense.
One of the unforgettable games of 2009. Ben You need to play it,damn!
I put 150 hours into RE5 (mostly mercenaries) so I will be getting this. Best two person coop I have played.
You paid Capcom its extortion money to play the already-on-the-disc co-op mode?
For shame!
mercenaries != vs mode
I didn' like RE5 at all. The game just wasn't good. I wasted good money on a horrible game. Yuck!
How is live getting the motion control thing? Natal?
I'm playin Code Veronica over this, slow scary zombie ftw 🙂

Code Veronica was pretty nice for the first all 3D Resi I must say… Graphics were really good for a PS2 game too.
Yeah, I don't understand how Natal is going to handle the motion controls for shooting stuff.
Option 1: say the word blam every time you want to shoot.
Option 2: Pull an imaginary trigger with your index finger for every shot (as if that would work)
I'm doin the Dreamcast version, it got better scores 🙂
Considering this is coming in spring and Natal will be a no show until end of 2010, I'm thinking the 360 isn't getting what they think they are.

I would assume the motion sensing would just be an update while the rest is real DLC.
Its a shame those PS3 gamers without broadband will be screw over because of this.
No Mikami really affected this game.. I didn't like it.
the new content isn't really appealing for me it just looks like the Resident Evil remake of the gamecube but with better graphics and just some scenes.
Agreed. They need to het him back for future RE installment.
so what about us who actually import it i dont want to buy the same game again
Is this Alternative Edition the one with motion controls? Knowing Capcom, I suspect that the addition will be at least $15 to $20. It might be cheaper to buy the actual game again if it's bundled with the motion controller. I'll see when it comes out.
I'll have to wait till launch to check this out. Wasn't a big fan of the 1st batch of DLC. Although I must admit I am very interested in that flashback chapter.
I still want this on a disc, I may have to import the JP version to get it that way. Though in the post on the unity blog they said they were still thinking how to work out what to do for those that want a disc re-release as there were quite a few that did. Personally I think they should just re-release it when the motion controller launches, that way you can grab a few new sales and keep current owners happy. RE5 already takes up 5GB's of space and I am just not willing to give up another 300MB to a gig for this game. None of this even factors in the DLC = dont actually own it argument which is why I dont support a fully digital future. As of now we can keep our games as long as we want and play them as we see fit, but when you can't touch something your no longer in control of when you can use it, and when its something you paid for thats a rip off to me. That reality is going to hit people pretty hard when the next generation of systems roll out and the PS3 servers shut down. Until then I think the whole picture is just lost to most people

what the darn?
I guess this is one of the reasons why the comments section is on a permanent beta state 🙂
This is good news. I was worried Capcom would re release it and want us to cough up another $40 to $60 for this.
If this dlc is 100kb I'm going to be real pissed.
if the price is right, and its not to large a download i may buy it.
still got my survival edition from EB (think thats what it was called.)
RE5, easily the biggest disappointment for me this generation.
Me too. But maybe the motion controls will be fun. RE4 on Wii was pretty cool.

I admit that RE5 was a slight let down. kinda like dating a supermodel. Although i would like to see remakes in the style of RE5. But I think I am just hoping for a return to survival horror in whatever form it may come.

it should have been claire!
RE is not scary anymore after RE3 Nemesis,i was kinda dissapointed in RE5 after beating it
BTW the Giant Alligators are waaaaay more scary than all the "monsters" in that game combined
