Did anyone really conceive of the day when the PlayStation 3 saw more advertising and marketing efforts than the Xbox 360? Lately, Sony has gone all out and as we've been saying all along, it's a great thing.
We've all seen the TV commercials centering on the new theme, "It Only Does Everything," and you can expect such ads to continue on strong through the holiday season. However, perhaps the most comprehensive promotional video yet can be seen over at the15reasons.com ; a specially designed site that shows the viewer 15 reasons to own a PlayStation 3. It's a European campaign, and this lovely lady guides us through the PS3's features and there are even a few mini-games to test out if you're willing (although if we had to review them, we'd probably have some serious issues). But that's hardly the point; the point is that any consumer can get just about all the information they need through this interactive video, and if things like this start having a big impact, the competition should be worried. Said Christian Noer, Nordic marketing manager for the PlayStation brand:
"This is a modern twist on a traditional ‘elevator sales pitch’. As we broaden the PlayStation’s appeal to a wider group of consumers, we just feel our audience needs a little bit of help selling the full range of capabilities to their wives, mums or girlfriends."
Oh, that's always true. Until gaming can be considered entirely mainstream, the out-of-touch will need plenty of reasons to prove to the "wives, mums or girlfriends" that the PS3 is a whole lot more than a simple gaming machine. But they'll get it…eventually. Just need more stuff like this.
