Dhani Harrison Promises More Realistic Rock Band

If you're a fan of the music-based games, you've probably heard the contemptible refrain, "how come you won't just learn a real instrument?" Well, while many will claim that titles like Guitar Hero and Rock Band actually do help one become a better musician (or at least cultivate a new-found love of music), most professional players often poke fun at these plastic instruments.

But if the son of George Harrison, Dhani Harrison, has his way, Rock Band 3 will take a definite step in the realistic direction. According to a recent interview he gave the Chicago Tribune , Harrison plans to help make the third installment in the critically acclaimed franchise, all in the hopes that it will be more authentic than ever. And by the way, if you're a fan of the excellent The Beatles: Rock Band , you can thank Harrison for that, as it seems clear that such a title wouldn't have existed without his influence. But anyway, here's what he had to say about the future of the music genre:

"I'm working on Rock Band 3 and making the controllers more real so people can actually learn how to play music while playing the game. Give me a couple years, it's going to happen."

Well, it certainly helps to have real musicians lending their assistance to such projects, doesn't it? And the article also mentions that Harrison says the potential of Rock Band "has barely been scraped," and we honestly believe that to be true. It's just a matter of time and ever-increasing technology; there may come a day when the kiddies will look back and say, "oh my God, it began with those ridiculous plastic instruments? HAHA!"

I could barely play that stupid recorder thing in elementary school, it was lame. Chicks dig guitars too.

How can a music game be realistic? lol
Apart from keeping in time with the beat & rhythm.

Put actual strings on the guitars and give it a tutorial mode you have to play through for at least 3 real weeks of learning everything? lol And vocal lessons and drumming lessons.

I've played Rock Band 2 and the notes they have you play aren't always actual guitar notes. Also some songs require more than 1 guitar and the game will have you play bits and pieces of both riffs.

I would love to see them enhance the drum kit. Its the whole reason why I was even interested in picking the game up. I'd like to see a kit with more pieces rather than have you hit a pad for the snare one note then that same pad is a tom for the next note.

Musically, the game (including Guitar Hero) is an embarrassment although fun with a group of friends.

@ Nynja

You can buy cymbals for the RB2 kit, which allow you to play up to 8 different "drums" (sort of) or, if you have $300-400 to spend, you can buy an Ion kit, which is basically a real electronic drum kit.

I trust EA to wait that long more than I trust Activision to. There have been over 60 million DLC downloads for Rock Band, which means $120 million in sales. This is without the cost of producing discs to put the new songs on. I think EA can stand to wait that long.

ive found it to be the other way around.
my cuz is a wiz at guitar, hes been playing since he was 7 and is now in his late 20s.
he completley utterly sucks at RB or GH, me on the other hand aint to bad at RB or GH but cant play guitar for buckleys.
drums, though, thats a different story.

Did it's true.
I play guitar and I flippin' can't play GH for shit. My friends who don't play instruments are better.

I bow down to anybody that plays it on Expert or whatever the hardest is.

yeah even though they should be releasing these things like consoles (every 5-6 years) the dlc is whats keeping these afloat. im really bored with the music games. i truly have gone tired of trying to keep u with the new music games that keep coming out. i almost bought rock band 2 as a bundle and im so glad i did not because not much has improved. and im a rock band fan over guitar hero.

point is i wish they would focus on making the stuff better and more realistic, rather than just pumping out new bundles because they have a new 65 song track pack coming out. because weekly we see dlc and they do a really good job putting out quality songs. if i dont like something one week i ussually do the next so good job on that.

just bring me something new and ill be excited! this article gives me hope!

Dude is the son of a B-list Beatle. For my money, Lennon and McCartney were the only Beatles worth a spit. He gravytrained his pops to get the Beatles in a video game. Now he's talking like he's the future of the genre. Ok dude.

I wouldn't call any of the Beatles B-listers, except for maybe Ringo. The few songs Harrison wrote for the Beatles were way better than most of the Lennon/McCartney songs in my opinion.

I wasn't saying Harrison was complete garbage. He just was not the straw that stirred the coffee. Harrison had a couple of songs on his own that were good, BUT as I see the group, there was John and Paul, and then the rest.

Paul and John would kicked your ass for sayin' that man haha. The Beatles were the Beatles. They were all great friends.

And Harrison is very appreciated.

I would like to see these games get more realistic. I've found songs in Rock Band that I later decided I wanted to learn for real. Right now I'm working on Master Exploder and my fingers are angry at me for it. I would also like them to keep the classic mode in there also.

I don't mind this sort of "evolution" or waiting a few years for RB3, as long as they patch RB2 to add the improvements in TB:RB and the other small fixes people have been requesting for the last year (not all of which are addressed in the patch the 360 version just got).
