Call Of Duty Confirmed For 2010, NOT Set In World War II

We all know the Call of Duty franchise isn't going anywhere and at this point, we can expect a new entry every year, what with Infinity Ward and Treyarch trading off.

So it's no surprise to learn that Activision has confirmed another CoD title for 2010; the announcement came during a conference call with analysts, and of course, other major franchises will return as well. Said Activision president Mike Griffith:

"In [calendar year] 2010, Activision Publishing is expected to release strong, innovative new titles. The diversified lineup will include titles based on the best selling franchises including Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, Shrek, [and] Spider-Man."

Details are few and far between concerning the Guitar Hero and Spider-Man titles but we've heard pieces of information concerning the next Call of Duty . Earlier this year, Treyarch was reportedly seeking new music for the game, and such tracks included "Vietnam War-era tunes, as well as Cuban, African, and Soviet Union music," which got people thinking. Could it be based around Vietnam or the Cold War? We also heard from Treyarch's senior producer that World at War would be the last CoD title to be set in World War II, which will undoubtedly be a major topic of debate amongst loyal followers. Lastly, we do know that wherever the setting, the new Call of Duty has already been in development for quite some time so perhaps we'll start seeing some info and media before the year is out.

At this time, Activision is clearly focusing on the gigantic launch of Modern Warfare 2 , which launches next week and is predicted to be one of the single biggest entertainment-related launches in history. Could it sell 14 million copies before the year is out…?  We'll stay on the lookout for any details concerning the next Call of Duty but in the meantime, let's hear from you: what setting would you prefer?

@ Oxvial, I will not buy it, did you not get what I said in my post. How many Guitar Hero's did they make? They are crap. This is my last Call of Duty. No more, nothing, this is it.

Dismael, we got what you said in your post. Just doesn't make sense. You want MW2, but you won't buy MW3? Oh, ok, makes a lot of sense. You will buy the sequel to your favorite game, but when asked if you will buy the next sequel to your favorite game you scoff him?

Cool. I did get a good vibe when I had Treyarch's COD: WaW.

I really liked that game. Looking forward to this 😉 since it's not WWII anymore. No idea what theme they could cover. Nearly everything's been used.

Gasp!

Oh my! Shock and awe, another COD and Guitar Hero game! How very unexpected. I hope everyone takes note of the fact that these are being announced for 2010 when the 2009 versions are only just out of the incubator.

New Shrek and Spiderman games eh? I guess that means new Shrek and Spider-man movies coming in 2010 as well then.

Yay…I think.

Gotta love Activision, the paint's not yet dry on one end of the bridge before they're starting to repaint at the other end again.

I see a lot of people are getting angry with Activision, and I'm definitely not a big fan of them, but lets face the fact that they are a company who's purpose is to maximize profits.

Furthermore why don't I remember seeing this when EA releases a new sports game every year. In essence isn't it the same situation?

Indeed, have you seen the displeasure of people complaining that Madden is a yearly refresh with little difference except fresh paint and new rosters?

Yea Laxpro I see what your saying, actually I don't have no problem seeing COD every year, heck I even wanted GTA every other year.

I've been buying FIFA yearly and I don't see nothing wrong. Even with COD its got new storylines for each iteration, how about these sports games that seem just updated every now and then, yet we still buy them.

call of duty : revolutionary war

i think it would be really interesting to play a game where you use muskets, bayonets, or your gun as a club, cannons, cavalry, infantry formations.
it would be very intense to reload after every shot and wait for your captain to yell fire! then rush at them with your bayonet as cannon fire explodes around you, wiping out soldiers left and right. if done right, it would be as exciting as any omaha beach landing.
i dunno maybe i'm crazy

that or civil war…gettysburg would be epic!
just a thought…

Might be interested if it were a Vietnam era thing. Seriously doubtful if it doesn't have dedicated servers tho.

"At this time, Activision is clearly focusing on the gigantic launch of Modern Warfare 2, which launches next week" I had to laugh at this because a local store in my town already started selling COD;MW2 yesterday in which I got my copy. I really hope a new COD isnt WW2 settings or any setting with the old school weaponry, after COD;MW I can't seem to use the old weapons at all, I'm horrible.

Good, as long as it's not world war 2. They should set it in Vietnam.

No civil war…That time period had lousy weapons.

I think a Call of Duty: Nonlethal Warfare should come out sometime down the road- before ending the franchise. That would be a day 1 purchase for me. Think about it: taser and stun guns, rubber bullets, pepper spray, sticky foam… you could play forever and never die… unless your soldier had a heart condition and died from the taser…long live CoD!!!! muawahaha

Looks average at best
boring (imo)

it looks pretty good, not as good as killzone or uncharted 2 cause of it being multiplat and bogged down by 360. The campaign like all COD's is just awesome. I don't care for COD multiplayer, just the campaigns and Modern Warfare 2 campaign impressed me ALOT. All I know is I can't wait for Modern Warfare 3, yes there will be one according to MW2's ending.

you are a weird kind Mysterio.. a MW player that don't care about the multiplayer.

I'm gonna give you a thumb up.

I'm not a fan of the multiplayer for numerous reasons but mainly the community (i know that doesnt seem fair to the game). from my experiences it seems like the HALO community is also the Call Of Duty community, or as alot of people I know call it, Call Of Douchebags. If I play with no mic or mute everybody it's alright but then how can u make more friends to add to your list? I like the Campaigns in COD games because to me they're intense. I've enjoyed every COD campaign to date starting from COD 2 on 360. I have Killzone for multiplayer 🙂

Wow, amazing, I guess from CoD4 onwards there's gonna be a CoD EVERY year.
What can I say? LET THE MILKING BEGIN!

It's funny seeing everyone rag about a yearly COD game. It's a quality franchise people. That's why there's actually 2 COD games each year, counting the Game Of The Year Edition!

I was underwhelmed by COD: WaW after coming off Modern Warfare. As far as I'm concerned, they're two different franchises.

A bit premature with the promotion of next years game. Although I like the idea of them using Vietnam as a setting. But as much as I like the CoD games, I found myself getting too involved in them and having to remind myself when I'm playing that they're basing them off real events that have happened. What I mean to say is that I wasn't too impressed with myself when I'd blast the head off some Japanese dude and be happy about it. Not trying to read too much into the games and this didn't stop me from finishing the last one, but just saying, sh** got me thinking.
The Modern Warfare games don't have that effect since they're not based on any historical events.
I seem to of gone off topic now I think. 4am will do that to ya I guess.

I'm obviously in the minority here but i think they should stick with ww2.There are hundreds of modern and futuristic shooters out there but for those of us who like the ww2 setting there is medal of honor(which has sucked for a long time) and call of duty. How about a cod from a german point of view?Nazi's are much more interesting than generic terrorists and bloody weapons of mass destruction.(yawn)

A NAM game would put me over the edge not only has EVERY NAM game that has ever come out with NAM sucked big hairy moose baww…. u know, but a NAM game where u play as a US soldier is pure propaganda for a false flag operation. This is one of those times that I would'nt tell stupid nay sayers to shut up.

I know COD has been a FSP but like they did with MW and how about trying it in both FSP/3rd person. One of the big reason i like the R2:vegas series.
