PlayStation fans likely aren't too familiar with the Dead or Alive fighting franchise, as most entries have been exclusive to an Xbox platform. However, in these days of dying third-party exclusivity, PS3 owners may see the girls of DoA grace their console before long.
The latest rumor says that Dead or Alive 5 is a "multiplatform title" in development for both the Xbox 360 and PS3. There's no official evidence for the time being, but it was mentioned that with known Microsoft fan Tomonobu Itagaki leaving Tecmo, franchises like DoA may no longer be exclusive. Furthermore, while the Ninja Gaiden series always manages to debut on the 360, the PS3 does get an updated version later on down the road (another practice that may give way to simple simultaneous releases in the future). It also seems that European retail channels are reporting that DoA5 will indeed be a multiplat game; Koei of Europe – Koei and Tecmo are now joined – has evidently been fueling such rumors. So the hints are there but we certainly can't say it's inevitable until we see something concrete. With the return of the fighting genre's popularity this generation, perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea to pursue a fifth Dead or Alive . It makes good business sense, at any rate.
And no, we're not talking about the Xtreme Beach Volleyball titles. If you want those, you really do need a 360…and there's nothing wrong with having a guilty pleasure. 😉
Yes, if this is true, then I buy. Yeah I don't care if people think it sucks, but I rather enjoyed the DOA fighting games.
Yeah, I might try it. I've always liked DoA…and it's because it's simple. I pretty much suck at fighting games, so I can only have fun with something easy like this. LOL
Ben,
Button mashing games with pretty graphics, isn't that what got many of us into the video game arcades of old anyway?
I'm with Ben, I have all the other DOA games except 4, and I find the different fighting styles enjoyable and rather simple to figure out. I will purchase since my fighting collection is rather slim.
Yeah!!! bring on the boobs
i like DOA but it's a lil too simple for my taste. i'd rather play tekken.
I never liked the game, I do however like the girls.
I do remember playing DOA on my PS1 and I was like WTF!?!? THE GIRLS ARE BOUNCING EVEN WHEN I MOVE FORWARD OR BACKWARD.
Yeah, that's a little much. These girls need a whole box of athletic bras.
ahahahahahahahaha thats awesome
reversal-fest…
Love the character designs
Hate the gameplay (no depth, simple countering/reversals)
Never underestimate the appeal of simple games with button mashing tendencies. Fighting games do not have to be chess matches that require preter-naturally quick move recognition and strategic decisions.
Sometimes it's OK to just keep hitting square over and over again like a maniac while the pretty lady in chiffon hits her opponent over and over until their energy bar hits zero.
Not that I'd ever adopt such a strategy myself, I mean I'd far rather concentrate on using a combination of guards, guard impacts, and counters than just watching the pretty lady beat some sense into her opponent. Honest…
dude doa has one of the best easy to master hard to conquer gameplays . dont be fooled by its punch, kick, throw, counter buttons , it is really really really diff to master …..
and i'm really good in that game really really good(the reason why i bought a 360)
There should be more third party exclusives for the playstation platform, like the old days.
Xbox I don't care.
?
Not entirely sure what you are saying here. In this day and age it has been said many times over, third party exclusives are nearly gone. Financial reality is making it necessary to hit as big an audience as possible to turn a profit for dev teams that don't have the backing of one of the major console developers.
If they bring DOA to PS3 I'll be there…for the game play of course!
Seriously for a moment, KOEI and TECMO are both well aware that their home market is dominated by the PS3, they've seen the success of games like MGS4 there, and they've seen games like Soul Calibur 4 and Tekken 6 doing as well or better on the PS3 in global terms so they know that limiting DOA to the 360 isn't a terribly sound business plan. I doubt that a future DOA game would be meaningfully exclusive. It'll be a straight up multi-platform game, r a timed exclusive with an enhanced PS3 edition coming after a 360 original.
NGS2 kinda, sorta shows that Itagaki's presence was not a necessary element to the production of a game with high production values, and that his absence has allows KOEI/TECMO a wider business and customer base.
Well said.
Itagaki's blood must be boiling. I wonder where he's at and what's he working on these days.
Well, whatever Itagaki is working on, I'm sure it'll be an X360 exclusive….
😉
so many fighting games, and all of them are so fun.
if only there was a cap on how much fighting games cost, so they would start at $40 then I would be able to enjoy them all
DUDE!!!!
I do remember loving the crap out of DOA3 I think it was on the PS2 or maybe it was DOA2 I dunno, but as Ben confessed above, I too suck at fighting games, but I mean I really really am not good at them, but I do enjoy the occasional one and DOA was always easy for me to pick up and play so if this comes to PS3 I will definitely pick it up.
EDIT and OFF TOPIC: Harley Quinn should have been on this poll, she's hot, just saying.

why is everyone voting for chloe?? the bayonetta girl is CLEARLY hotter :D… is it that PS3 fanboy in all of us that wants to see chloe and second place heavenly sword win?
i quite liked doa2 on the ps2
I'd rather play Tekken 6 anyday.. 😛
Bring it on bitches 🙂
if the exclusive deal went out the window for DoA then, perhaps we might see a volleyball edition in the near future…
one can only hope…
I said that once Itagaki left that DOA would come back tot he PS3.I knew it especially once they announced NGS2.
If one is made it would likely come to the arcades than console…

Although Arcades are still viable in Japan, they're not the only gaming business there, and the home console market globally dwarfs the arcade scene, so why would Koei/Tecmo restrict their audience so severely?
Meh never cared for Dead or Alive, didnt mind the 2nd one though. Its no Street Fighter or Tekken, beats Virtua Fighter though, by a long shot.
Anyone ever confirm that setting your age way up to 99 increases the bounce factor?

LOL! If you were really that old, the increased bounce might be a factor in your passing…
Age 99 may increase the sag factor World.
HAH, u guys make me laugh 🙂
Dead or Alive: Hardcore was the first PS2 game I bought way back when. I would love to buy another one if it was released for ps3, especially if it was another "Hardcore" edition released a little later.
DOA is my favorite fighting game for xbox and 360, I had the DOA 1-3 for xbox and 4 for 360 and I just love to see the DOA gilrs (i voted them as the hottest girls just a few days ago). and I still remember, the DOA3, DOA beach vollyball, Ninja Gaiden, and the Knights of the Old Republic were the very reason I got the original black Xbox.
DOA5 goes onto PS3 is certainly exciting, but it better not to have frame rate problem, as the Bayonetta or Dragon Age Origin does. Also. as DOA is a veteran franchise for xbox, i wont have any problem of picking up the 5th one on 360.

*breathes in deeply*
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOBBBBBBIIIIIIIIIEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe because there is big money to made by doing a arcade release? Why do you think VF5R isn't being released onto either the 360 or PS3? To further add these Arcadia Magazine ranking charts(on the right) pretty much say it:
http://www.arcadiamagazine.com
Anyhow Tecmo is still in the arcade business and it would make perfect sense from a business POV for them to do a arcade release(possibiliy RingEdge base)to advantage of the current upswing going on in japanese arcades.
Itagaki is gone…what's the point.
Ah!
How I would prefer a Dynasty Warriors fighting game (like the original)….
Seriously, Dynasty Warriors was better than Soul Calibur. Those who got to play it know what I'm talking 'bout
Half Off Topic (Maybe)
So if Koei and Tecmo have merged does that mean that Dynasty Warriors will be an action game instead of an endless mannequin slashing game?
Doesn't really matter, the series hasn't been good since the 2nd game.
Well all I have to say is it's about time I can play another DoA game.
