It's true that we have to wait until next year to get our hands on Gran Turismo 5 but hey, perfection takes time.
In a new interview with Kazunori Yamauchi at the SEMA Show, we learn a bit more about the behind-the-scenes progress of this massively anticipated simulator. First of all, some stats we already knew about- Polyphony is aiming to have over 1,000 cars in the game, there will be over 70 total track layouts, and each car will boast 400,000 polygons (as opposed to 4,000 in Gran Turismo 4 ). He also tells us they basically threw out everything they used for the previous title and "started from scratch" so in his estimation, the game didn't take very long at all. Interestingly enough, Yamauchi was also asked – quite boldly – what has held GT5 up and he said quite simply that this falls in SCEA's department; as he says, "My job is to create the product, not sell it." I think that's something a lot of people often forget; it's the developer's job to make the game while it's the publisher's job to get it onto store shelves; unless the same company performs both duties, everything is separate.
Oh, and one final thing: all told, Yamauchi estimates that it took a whopping $60 million to create GT5! Well, he's likely confident that they'll make it all back eventually, and we're equally confident. Aren't you?

$60 millon!? Oh dear….Gran Turismo 5, Sony's $60 million gamble on the power of the Playstation…..I can see it now, if GT5 fails to sell obscenely large numbers, certain sections of the gaming media will be all over the story.
Then Microsoft will come out and say Forza is better.
But it's very impossible GT5 won't sell a lot, GT123 all sold more than 10million copies each.
Nothing is impossible, but it is *very* unlikely to sell poorly.
Which reminds me, I need to put down a pre-order. After the crapolla that Amazon pulled with their Uncharted 2 treasure map, I will have to find another retailer to pre-order with…
I agree on Amazon, I downloaded my free Treasure Map, all 700MB of it only to see it was just the first 6 treasures. I was disappointed but then again, what did I expect for 'free' right?
@ TheHighlander – I warned you! Even better "maps" can be found all over Youtube now. Should of went with the Best Buy golden guns even if you're not a huge fan of multiplayer.
Ah, but I can has gold guns, I just blow away someone holding one, and they're mine!
::maniacal laughter in the distance::
I just got GT4 a few days ago, to see what it was like so I could decide if I wanted to get GT5 when it came out. Um…YES!!! This game is absolutely awesome. I can't even imagine what GT5 is going to be like.
Welcome to the family
They probably made a lot of money with Gran Turismo: Prologue too
Forza – Hi GT5 you loser.
GT – Ugh for the last time Forza, can't we just get along?
Forza – No, you suck, I have 400+ cars.
GT – So? my cousin GT PSP has more cars than you.
Forza – But I have a much more realistic experience.
GT – Is that why everyone classifies you as an arcade racer?
Forza – *Begins to cry* SHU-SHU SHUTUP!
Forza – Atleast I haven't been in development for a gazzilion years!
GT – Well my Dev. is a perfectionist, maybe your short development span is why you're so mediocre.
Forza – I have damage, HA!
GT – as will I in my final product, not to mention GT prologue outsold Forza 2.
Forza – But, but, I have *Disk explodes*
GT – Forza, you've just been Gran turismowned!
BTW, this off topic but Activision confirmed a new COD and Guitar Hero in 2010.

no this is getting rediculous
As racing sims are not really my thing I will not be getting this game on day one. However, one would be a fool to not be impressed by the power that is GT. A coworker of mine bought a PS3 a year ago just to play GT5. His PS3 just sits there (he's not an avid gamer) and awaits it's day to shine. I mean, I've heard of system sellers, but selling a system a year before release? That's a powerhouse.
Don't worry, there's millions of other people with the same story 😉
Yo that was sick little big midget
400,000 polygons!!! Does any one else think that's crazy? I thought 80,000 was a lot with U2. Solid Snake had about 100 on MGS1 (1998). We've come a long way. I'm not a big racing fan, but GT5 is going on a buy list. Which is hard to make with my income.

I would delete these repeats. But for some reason there is no delete or edit button. SORRY. I really don't think dial-up is helping my cause right now.
I refused to buy prologue so for Gods sake release the game already please! Spartan117, what are you smoking cause your nuts.
