Ben-DutkaI was hoping Hollywood had moved past the superhero phase but it appears that the easily satisfied public continues to reward such special effects extravaganzas.
And so, Marvel has a few new films in the hopper and not surprisingly, Sega already has plans to turn them into corresponding video games. In their third quarter financial report , Marvel drops the names "Captain America" and "Thor;" both of which are slated to come to consoles in May and July of 2011 respectively. The movies will be in theaters at about the same time and although we have no details on any of these projects just yet, we figured you'd want to know about 'em. Superhero games have been getting better over the years, even though it seems that original heroes – like Cole from inFamous – typically fare a little better. But still, the recently released Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 was a solid action/RPG that should've given superhero fans everything they can handle. The only question that remains is how Sega will attack the Captain America and Thor themes; there are any number of options and we'd really like to think we'd get something special by 2011. No hiding behind the "oh, we're not familiar with the hardware" excuse then !
We'll let you know when they release the first details for the games in question. In the meantime, maybe your brains can get all creative with theories…how might such titles turn out?

You mean games based on movies never work? Whats the last superhero movie you saw that was based on a game?? I dont think there are any, except the upcoming uncharted

If these movies didn't (generally) turn out so good, especially the recent ones, it would be way too much to handle. Right now there is Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, The Avengers, The Green Lantern, Magneto, Wolverine 2, X Men First Class, Deadpool, Spider Man 4, Venom, and Wanted 2 all in various stages of devlopment/production. And I'm sure somewhere they're discussing new Superman and Batman movies as well.
As sad as it may be I'm excited for every movie on that list (except Wanted 2, but I haven't seen the first one yet).

There's gonna be another Avengers? That last one didn't go so well.
The comic book Avengers (Cap, Thor, etc…) not the British spy TV series.
It's going to be the culmination of the movies that Marvel's in house studio has created the last year and a half. It's the reason Samuel L Jackson (as Nick Fury) was in Iron Man, and why Robert Downey Jr. was in the Incredible Hulk. The Avengers movie should feature Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and Nick Fury, with Hulk being either a good guy or potentially the villian.

i laughed, considering theres more superhero movies coming out in the next 2 years, then there has been for as long as i can remember.
Yes, theres been talk of a new Superman movie for awhile, they want it to be a reboot, because the last one did crap.
They said if the last one faired better, they would have already released another one. (n)

I'm a Marvel fan and to be brutally honest I don't think any of the games based on Marvel characters so far are good enough, with two exceptions: X-men legends 2 and the first Ultimate Alliance made a Marvel fan proud. UA2 were in my opinion a catastrophy, I've never been so disappointed in my entire life.
The only light at the end of a very dark tunnel is that after such a mega-hit with the latest Batman game (DC Comics… Grrrr – the enemy ;)) maybe Marvel too will realize that a good game based on famous heroes will sell bucketloads more than bad games based on superheroes.
Still, Marevel brings out the teenager in me, so: Marvel pwn, DC is teh suxxor!
they already did figure this out months ago when marvel relaeased a statement saying they are done makin crappy comic based video games. i believe they said this about the time the wolverine game came out.
Seriously? Meaning what exactly… That they will start making good ones, or stop making games, period? hehe
i believe what they said was that they will no longer rush a movie based game to match the movie release date. that they will only try to release quality games.
Wanted was a good movie. I think the Wanted video game was suppose to be the sequal to the movie right ?I never played it though.
I always had an active hatred for Captain America. I really don't know what it was about him but he always just made my skin crawl, but then again I was always more about the villains than the heros honestly. I will still take a good Venom or Carnage movie or game or comic or hell anything really over a spiderman anything.
Cpn America was always just too much for me to handle, like Captain Planet or something, too much of a political message.
Agree with World 100% just too much of an agenda…
Nothing against America don't get me wrong, I love this country more than my native one but, this guy is a walking, talking American flag. Just a bit too much.

Well guys what do you suppose is next? Movies ran out of original ideas so they remade television shows as movies, then they got the market whipped up for superheros, now with transformers and GI Joe they are basing movies on toys, they keep trying to make them based on games but I wonder what they will turn to next. Soda? Candy?
It'll have to be something. Hollywood no longer has a single original bone left in the skeletons of its writers.

Before Hollywood made movies based on TV shows, superheroes, toys and video games, they used to make movies based on books (remember those?). I don't think Hollywood has ever had a single original idea. There are movies redone based on older movies for the love of Pete!

I read a great article sometime last year about how we in the 21st century, live in an age of narrative overload. At every second of everyday we have access to pretty much every major professionally made movie, TV show, book, comic, game, etc since the 60s. As well as the best of the best from prior to that. But we also now have to the wealth of non-professional content that exists on the internet. It might as well be impossible for any plot to be completely unique. Everything is derivative of something to a point.
The problem with movies is that they are stuck doing a 1.5-3 hour block of almost nothing but narrative. There is very little way to bring any sort of new look. And on the rare occasion someone does come up with something new it, then gets iterated on by others to the point where it becomes cliche. Remember how unique The Matrix was when it came out? Video games, have the luxury of being an interactive and (relatively) new form of entertainment. There are a lot of new ideas that are being developed and put out, from a gameplay perspective. TV shows have the luxury of length, where they can tell their story over the course of sometimes hundreds of hours. It allows them to bring detail and try new things that movies simply can't. The odd thing is that some of the most unique movies of the last few years have been directly based off of some sort of source material, it's the stuff that hollywood tries to come up with on it's own that has been awful.

You joke but there was a movie called 'FoodFight' that was supposed to be out in 2008 but kept getting pushed back. It was supposed to star well known food mascots.

Lol, I've actually recently rented 2001 and Clockwork because there was NOTHING of interest at Blockbuster.
When done right, these movies can be great (Spider-Man 2, Batman Begins/Dark Knight,) flawed, but a lot of fun (Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men 1&2, Iron Man,) or if mishandled can be quite the crapfest (Blade 3, X-Men 3, Hulk, Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four.)
It will always amaze and sadden me how Hollywood big wigs can take 50 years worth of stories and decide to mash together the 3 worst plotlines and make THAT a movie.
And yet I can sit through every one of them at least once just due to familiarity of the source material. But there are some I'd never pay to see that's for sure.
The problem with games that have tie in with movies is that the studio don't want the game company to give away too much of the story and the game plot suffers. Look at the Spider-Man 3 movie game I think the plot of the movie was the main factor for having a story line that didn't make much sense in the game.
On top of the games' plot, movie studios don't give the game developers time to work on the game. They have to be release in time when the movie hit theaters.

i just dont like them, because they ruin my image of the movie they are about.
I agree 1000000000000000000000% wit ben BUT…at tha same time i dont mind it..like some of the remakes and that (Cant wait for Nightmare On Elm Street!!!! as you can tell for my pic)…but i never really been into marvel if im onest..X men when i was younger and Spiderman a lil…but its all about Batman cant wait for tha next one!!!…BUT even so im interested in seeing what there going to do with Captain America & Thor…
from what i understand, what they are doin is setting up each of the movies for each characters origin referance. then they will move onto doing the avengers movies. more than likely trying to tie each of the movies into each other in small ways. at the end of both hulk and iron man there is avengers referances and expect S.H.I.E.L.D. to be big in the next few movies.
Who else wants a Marvel Zombies game?
Cap. America and Thor are some of the most ridiculous super heroes ever… How the heck are they going to turn it into a movie that will not suck is beyond me.
I felt the same way, but the way they handled Iron Man and Hulk give me confidence in Marvel Studios. Those two are of course less ludicrous but still, they built up my trust and I'm willing to see where they take those two characters.
I wonder how bad gonna be the game based on that movie.
i would love to see another wolverine game.
xmen origins wolverine the uncaged edition was actually a really good game minus the bugs.
another spider man game would be nice, but bring in the developers from spider man 2.
thats the only spider man game that was actually good, in fact it was one of my favorite PS2 games.
o and another batman game would be lovely, but this time make it more like the dark night.
on the streets, nitty gritty.
and a game based on the joker would be nice, but this time you actually play as the joker setting the traps for B man.
