Dead Space Sequel Set For 2010?

We all assume that EA is working on a Dead Space sequel but for the record, they haven't officially announced that project.

On the other hand, we've seen evidence to support the idea of a sequel, as developer Visceral Games recently began adding staff members to apparently begin work on Dead Space 2 , and now we have another unofficial confirmation from a Reuters news report : it quite simply says that the hotly anticipated horror sequel will ship next year. We're not entirely sure how they know this – they don't cite EA as a source – but it'd be great if the game did arrive on store shelves in 2010; it was one of our favorites of 2008, certainly. Unfortunately, EA did not corroborate the Reuters story, telling GameSpot that the information was merely "speculative." The original Dead Space had sold 1.4 million copies as of May 2009 and EA considered this number to be decent, but the Wii version ( Dead Space Extraction ) has done poorly on the sales charts.

Well, that game requires the capability of the PS3 and Xbox 360 to be fall-out-of-your-chair creepy, so while another Wii entry may be in question, we're fairly convinced that Dead Space 2 is indeed on the way. The only question is, when…?

Kowhoho, would have never pegged you as a Dead Space fan.

Kowhoho, if EA asked you, what would you have them do to improve upon the the first one?

I said before that Howard Wright is my hero. He was more of an honorable mention, I'd have to admit. Isaac Clarke is even MORE my hero.

Edit: Hmmm, improvements huh? Well no game is perfect. Let's see…

1.More enemy types. I was scared s**tless by the blackened, tougher necromorphs but in hindsight that wasn't a whole lot of diversity. The Lurkers (flying, tentacled baby-necromorphs) must make a return and you MUST be able to drop kick them.

2.Give Isaac a voice. (To anyone who thinks Isaac will not return for the sequel, I respectfully disagree.) You could hear his pain and oftentimes be able to tell what he was feeling, even behind his mask. Give him a voice and the narrative will enjoy a great uplift.

3. Keep giving us easter eggs. Deciphering the Unitologist language and actually getting something for it caused a few giddy moments.

4. Quit pulling the "It's dead, really!" gag. You walk up to a dead body only to see it jump up and attack you. While I don't think this was used too much in the original, I would begin to get annoyed if it made a prominent return in the sequel.

5. Give us more melee options. This may or may not work in the overall experience, but if they can make it work it would be hugely beneficial.

5. Lastly, make zero-grav even more exciting. It was cool in the original but you gotta keep it fresh. It was one of the things that made Dead Space stand out; make it even better!

I wonder if they didn't give Isaac a voice because they wanted to give you the impression, or more of a feeling that you were Isaac. Perhaps giving him a voice, thus a bit of a personality might take away from that feeling? I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but it has always been on my radar, just so many games, and I have only had the PS3 for 10 months with two young kids who don't give me a ton of time to commit to as much play time as I had when I was younger.

Interesting that the Wii Dead Space didn't sell much. In the past, I had heard a lot about Wii owners begging for more adult themed Wii games. It got favorable reviews.
Horror genre must only attract a select few I suppose. Either that, or Wii owners that wanted adult games, got fed up and purchased a PS3 or 360. I should know, as I am one of them. Bought a Wii when it first came out, then bought a PS3 this year.

I think a big part of it is Wii owners overall did not want another on rails shooter.

I suppose it's because the Wii owners pleading for more adult-oriented games are overall a very small minority. Most Wii owners are middle-aged soccer moms who buy Wii Fit, or people looking for more party/casual gaming.

what does last gen tech have to do with wanting an on rails game? it's not like everything for ps2 was on rails.

And yes, definitely thumbs up on a Dead Space sequel. That was a terrific game. I would like to see more creative mission objectives in the sequel though, as opposed to the "hunt for key and return to door" type. The zero gravity, spacewalk with timed oxygen stuff was awesome.

i never played the 1st one but i heard great things, not really a surprise that the sequel is coming so soon provided they're using the same technology. We should see a lot of sequels surprisingly early in my opinion, dont be surprised if after gran turismo 5 finally gets here if gran turismo 6 comes say two years later, the reason being is the hardest part for the devs is laying the foundation which in the gaming world means building the engine (provided they aren't using an existing one i.e. unreal, havok, etc.) i also wouldn't be surprised to see killzone 3 in 2010 as they took care of the hard part when they designed killzone 2.

I could go for a Killzone 3.

I wonder how they are gonna continue the story? You killed the Hive Mind. Issac is insane wrestling with his imaginary dead girlfriend on the escape shuttle. I don't know where they might take the story.

Still, I'm confident in Visceral. I'll definitely buy a sequel.

Great, you just ruined the game for me!!! You are the guy walking out of Empire Strikes Back in 1983 passing all others waiting in line, saying, "I CAN'T BELIEVE VADER IS LUKES FATHER!!!" =)

Bad metaphor. Game's been out for 14 months!

But you right…I am that guy. Expect if there is no line, everybody already seen it (since Episode 5 came out in 1980), and you're still behind.

I came ruin other games your behind on if you like. How about…Uncharted 1? CoD4? Fallout 3? Oblivion? Resistance: FoM, MGS4?! <cue the crowd gasps>

Seriously, I didn't mean to spoil anything for you. I assumed ppl interested in this sequel -reading these comments – beat the game (that came out 14 months ago) already. I apologize.

King, I was only joking, hence my smiley face. lol. All in good fun. And, yes, it was a terrible metaphore as you aren't ruining a game that just came out. Got my years mixed up, Jedi came out in '83.

The 1st is one of the few multiplat that was on an equal level on both platforms. I liked the 1st, I will get the sequel.

Yep I agree. I only got it a couple of months ago. For some reason I thought I did not like the demo. On hind-sight I think I spent two minutes playing it, got distracted and did not play it again.

Anyway; When I did, eventually, buy it I really enjoyed it. I will pick up the sequel when it comes out.

Deadspace, I heard, had better sound on the ps3 because it supported dolby 7.1 or 5.1 something or the other.

1st game I bought on the ps3 and it'll be a first day purchase for the sequel. It's a hell of game at 3 in the morning with the lights out and a set of headphones.

I played through most of the game six months ago (even got the animated movie which helps add some atmosphere) but got to a hard bit and lost interest and traded the game.
I felt that the game was excellent but got the feeling that it was a lot like work instead of pure enjoyment.
With Uncharted 2 I got to the end and thought I can't wait to play it again. With Dead Space I got past a hard bit and thought jeez I don't ever want to have to do that again!
Maybe I wasn't playing it properly but I always felt understrength and never seemed to have enough ammo. I know that was probably the point but I would get to a room with two dozen big buggers and I would only have enough rounds for half of them. Here we go again!

Starting to think I should have stuck with it till the end… May pick it up cheap if I'm ever feeling flush…

Thanks for the spoiler by the way!
What's the etiquette with spoilers? Are you allowed to talk about the endings for games over a year old or is it a no no?
If its two years I would just like to say how much I hated the zombies in Uncharted! Totally identified with the comment in Uncharted 2 when Drake said they'd better not be a zombie round the corner!

I guess the joy came from frights, and yes as you touched upon, upgrading and using weapons, and blowing the sh*t up out of the the same guy who almost made you sh*t your pants. I would play it at night time with headphones, and I loved it. One of the most memorable games of this generation for me because it was my first horror game. Very atmospheric. Very well planned and executed. And on top of that, it was a successful multiplatform effort.

I loved the first one, will definetly be buying the sequel. The dead space on wii should have sold much more, it was a pretty good game……it's hard to say that about out any non-mario game on the wii.

theres no way it would be out next year.
dantes inferno is not due out till late febuary.
in fact i dont think a developer has ever released one game, announced another and release said game in the same year.

visceral games are the best 3rd party developers so if anyone can do it, its them.
dantes inferno is looking fu**ing amazing!
another game ill have to grab of ebay 🙁

Damn, the Wii totally missed on a good franchise. They better stop that or the good games will only say Nintendo on it.

Dead Space was the only game that had me scared to put the disk in. Also, I played the game on the hardest mode available the first play through. That helped with the fear…
