Technically, one can think of the freshly released Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time as being the third and final part in a trilogy that began with Tools of Destruction . And based on Insomniac's comments, we may not see another installment for quite some time…
According to VideoGamer , Insomniac senior community manager James Stevenson calls the story arc involved their "magnum opus," and says A Crack in Time "concludes the story" at hand. This latest title brings everything to a satisfying conclusion; it'd be all the more satisfying if you played them all ( Quest for Booty being part two), and those people should feel as if the stories in the three games were all just "one thread." Ideally, this is the team's "masterpiece" and when developers are using comments and terms such as these, it makes us think the franchise may be done for a little while. But while this can't possibly be "the end," R&C may take a break for a good long time. Said Stevenson:
"Never say never. We could do another Ratchet & Clank game. It's a huge IP, big universe and a lot of stories to tell and I'm sure it's a big property for Sony. Sony owns the IP. So, I'm sure this isn't the end for the characters, but I think players will have to see the end of the game to understand more."
Not only is it popular, but it's also one of the best PS3-exclusive franchises out there, so it's highly unlikely that Sony would wish to shelve Ratchet . At the same time, when it comes to completing a trilogy, the developers may wish to go in a very new direction when the series returns…and we might have to wait a little longer than usual. Who knows?

Focus on Resistance or a new IP and come up with something like Uncharted 2, at least that's what I think.
ND focus on U2 and it was worth it, now it's your turn Insomaniac, you guys just can't let your rival or friendly rival be a step ahead can't you?
I'm pretty sure they have something up there sleeve that will surprise us soon enough, that's Insomniac and Naught Dog for you. Two amazing developers.
This is seriously one of the best exclusive series for the Playstation brand and a very loyal developer. I hope we don't have to wait too long for a new title in the series.
I really hope they continue on with the Resistance series as well, 1st was really good, 2nd was a bit easier but fun, retribution was one of the best shooter games on the PSP. Period.
And I agree with Snaaake, Maybe its time for Insomniac to launch a new IP.
Played the demo really enjoyed the game, can't wait to get this game.
They've been cranking out these games for a long time now. I'm sure it's not the end forever, maybe just this console generation. They probably want to create and work on other things.
No matter how it all goes down – Thank You Insomniac: for keeping me highly entertained for years and years. I own and love every game you have made (I think?)and I will continue to do so until I cannot pick up a controller (or wave my arms around like a dope) anymore.
I'll be looking forward to what you have in store for us in the future.
It seems like they try to pump out a R&C title every two years, so i wouldnt mind if the broke the cycle and brought in a new IP then went back to R&C in 4 years. But damn them all if R&C is done for ever. Its my favorite game series and i will fly over to Burbank and kick their asses if the retire Ratchet.
One thing we can be sure of is that whatever Insomniac does will be awesome.

Insomniac is awesome developer, i hope its not the end of R&C, but whatever they'll do, it'll be amazing just like R&C and Resistance.
I played the demo. Didn't really notice much of an improvement in image qaulity from Tools of Destruction. Not to say it's bad. It still looks great. I'll pick this up at some point. I still engrossed in Uncharted 2.
The Clank demo? I though that there was a huge improvement in the detail level, and speed. The game just feels snappier. Graphically, there is a definite improvement, there is more detail, and the graphics seem to have had a bit of polish since last time.

hmmm. ill have to go back and play Tools of Destruction. i havent played it in a while. It just didnt POP OUT like Uncharted 2 did over Uncharted 1. Cant really compare the two i suppose.
Damn that'd suck…
Ratchet and Clank is still the supreme platformer of this generation
Would suck to see it go away 🙁
Gonna miss ya R&C, at least for a little while. Hopefully they`re gonna dedicate all their time and effort to Resistance 3 now. The first game was excellent, the second was fantastic and I`m betting the third just may be the ultimate FPS on any console. Insomniac is certainly capable of it. Got my fingers crossed on this one!
Ratchet and Clank is the kids side to the PS brand, without it RaC fans would be utterly dissappointed. Ithink they should take a 6 year gap or make a breath taking game for the launch of PS4 (5 years or so)
Kids? I must be a really old kid then. Personally I love the R&C games, and I'm definitely not a kid any more, and haven't been for decades.
R&C is a video game in the more classic sense. It's not a shooter, it doesn't pretend to have gritty realism, it focuses on fun, color, speed, and arcade/platform action. Does that make it a kids game? Not to me, to me it simply makes it a classic video game for all.
Good and it nice to see Sony moving their developers beyonds sequels into fresher waters.
And speaking of, its nice to hear that Kazunori-san wants another Tourist Trophy title..further proof that Sony seem committed to new franchises:

My copy arrived yesterday, I spent 2 and a half hours or so playing through on 'Hard' -I've played one or two ratchets before, so 'hard' is about 'normal' difficulty in reality.
I'm loving it so far, there seems to be a lot to it. Ratchet has a number of side quests. I've only played a couple of them, so I'm not sure how varied they are. They may 'reset', allowing you to repeat tasks, not sure yet. But, they do offer a variety of mini-games/game play options that is new. Judging by my progress so far, this game has a decent campaign length, I couldn't guess on an actual duration, but I have played for 2 and a half hours, and I don't think I'm even 10% through. It looks like this could be a long one, not to mention that there are an insane number of collectibles and upgrades to weapons, equipment and ship to get, and that is only Ratchet. I'm not sure if there are additional things for clank yet.
If this is the last game for a while in the R&C saga, that's OK, there looks to be a lot of game here.
The visuals in this game are better than the first, and second installments on the PS3. I hate the comparisons with Pixar and Dreamworks, but I will say that the game does look and feel like you are playing in an animated movie.
I got my copy yesterday and spent about 5 hours playing. This game to me also looks better than the first 2. I'm trying not to finish as quick as I did with Uncharted 2, so I picked up Tekken 6 as well. I liked the way the game started when you first got to play as Ratchet, that was kind of a surprise to me ( without mentioning what it was * no spoiler * ).
I'm a few more hours in, and loving it. I can totally seem myself replaying this one to get every upgrade and what not.
Insomniac have a great sense of humor, and you can tall that they have worked with teams from other first party devs, the extra polish shows in their game.
How is Tekken 6? That's the other game I'm looking at getting as well. It looks like it's a step up even from Soul Calibur. The only thing is I haven't Tekken'd much, so I need to know how accessible it is.
I think it's worth getting if you like Tekken. It's the best so far in the series. There seems to be more moves added since Tekken 5. I haven't played with the new characters yet, except for one. I'm trying to learn some of Lili's moves.
I was going to wait a little bit to pick this up, but one of my friends I've known since high school finally bought a ps3 slim and Tekken 6. So I got a copy to keep from getting my a** handed to me on a platter every time I play him.
I hope R&C dont go the same way as Jak n Daxter and are lost for yrs.
i think quest for booty was a filler, not a legit entry to the trilogy. we'll get 3 full on console entries before insomniac takes a break
Well if I had to choose between Uncharted or R&C, I'd pick R&C. Insomniac is just incredible.
I loved the demo, but I'm using up my game funds for uncharted 1 and uncharted 2, then MW2, so chances of me buyin this game are slim. I would really like to see ratchet on the psp. I'm not a fan of bringing ps3 franchises over to the psp but I wouldn't mind a ratchet title for psp.
Oh and I forgot to mention, but am I the only one who would like a new spyro game for ps3? Spyro was the reason I bought a ps1, and I would love to see a ps3 version.

Insomniac can take their time. So they can come up with Multiplayer options for their next Ratchet ^_^
And Resistance 3 of course.
I liked the demo for R&C, I'll be getting it from gamefly soon, and will probably keep it.
I think they will wait for a while before they bring it out again, you don't want to over saturate the market.
(wow, that sounded smart didnt it?)
Would it make sense if they were to put cover system into R&C?
o dear god please no.
R&C has everything it needs, besides a multiplayer mode and split screen.
and mayb a more in depth flight mode between worlds.
R&C is a platformer with action bolted on (pun definitely intended). A cover system would be appropriate in a straight out action game, or a game that is primarily an action game. R&C are primarily platformers.
huh thats what ive been saying since their first post on the US blog months ago.
i really hope this is not the last R&C game, i want a new R&C game in no more than 4 years.
its too early on, yea i know theve done allot but i love R&C far too much to see it go.
same for the GOW series but more, if i had to choose between R&C going, or GOW going, im sorry kratos, but id have to choose my fury little friend.
no not that fury friend, get your mind out of the gutter!
now if you'll excuse me im off to organize my plane tickets, pitchforks and torches.
