Sometimes I read new game announcements and sit back and think for a moment…"how exactly are they going to approach this?" is the dominating question.
Crave Entertainment has announced that they plan to produce video games based on the Discovery Channel's popular "Man vs. Wild" and "Deadliest Catch" TV shows. These titles will be coming to "all current video game platforms beginning in Spring 2010" and I have to admit that my interest has been piqued. In Man vs. Wild , host Bear Grylls will guide you through your outdoor adventure, providing you with "necessary survival skills in a wide variety of landscapes and climates." In Deadliest Catch , we'll become captains of our very own fishing boats and attempt to navigate the deadly Bering Sea, all the while looking to bring in huge scores of crab. Said Betsi Gijanto, Executive Vice President of Crave Entertainment:
"The Discovery Channel has captivated millions of viewers by delivering non-stop action and suspense in these unique programs. Man vs. Wild and Deadliest Catch capture man’s struggle to survive amidst the perils of nature on land and at sea. This rich content is a perfect concept for videogames."
But there is a clarification at the end of that press release that may disappoint some people: both games are going to appear on the PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DS, but the Xbox 360 will only receive "Man vs. Wild." Oh, and let's not forget that you'll be able to purchase both games on either the PlayStation Network or the Xbox Live Marketplace, so that's more incentive to give 'em a try. Personally, I'd just rather go with Bear and do all that crazy sh**…I'm insane, but I think it'd be awesome.
Three letters on this story B Dukats. WTF???
indeed, how are these games gonna entertain people, coz the demographic its aimed for probly don't even have consoles.
i mean, if you like fishing, go.. um.. FISHING MAYBE?
and that man vs wild thing sounds okay, i mean, aside from the fact its a bit of a stupid idea, some people do want to fight a.. bear or whatever. but surely its more entertaining to do something else. like beat up pikachu in SSBB? or sumin.
Worst. Idea. Ever. Man V Wild is okay if extremely contrived but Deadliest Catch is just retarded. Yay lets watch people find crabs and hope actual people die so we can be entertained.
Show me a MonsterQuest game and we'll talk, I wanna be messin' with Sasquatch.

I keep thinking Deadliest Catch has more potential, just because I think they might make it more like a half-strategy game, where you position your ship(s) and have to maintain them, keep crew morale high, etc, etc, etc.
I LIKE Man vs. Wild more as a TV show, but as a game…I'm worried.
I second that Ben, MvW is one of my favorite shows. Remember when he was in the desert and ate that camel spider? that was awesome. Then he proceeded to drink his own pee, ya not so awesome. lol. But it is rather worrysome thinking about haw these games will play. Mabey if MvW was 100% open world with no invisible walls in any of the levels, having to keep an eye on your hunger, thirst, fatigue, health and any injuries than I would totally be down.
ZOMFG
Bear Grylls!
Have you seen Adam02's parody on him? It's hilarious:
lol that vid was funny
sweet man vs. wild
now i can play as bear grylls and eat some nasty bugs or some animal nuts or maybe even drink some nasty sh** juice……….
lol XD
seriously though, this sounds like it might be fun
deadliest catch on the other hand….. no freakin way
lol, quicktime events where you have to chew the nasty critter properly or it bites your tongue.
*facepalm*
I see no potential for success here.
one based on mythbusters would be so cool.
I WANT TO STRAP ROCKETS TO THE BACK OF A SWING.
O COME ON PEOPLE, ITS NOT LIKE ITS ROCKET SCIENCE.
o, wait it is.
ahhhh the good old summer days, filling up peoples letterboxes with firecrackers.
or my favorite, bungers down a ants nest or termite mound.
why O why did the stupid government have to spoil my fun?
I was pretty much sold on buyin one of these for my new Go, but then I realized that it won't be available for the psp/go, oh well there loss not mine.
I hope they try to pull of some awesome HD graphics for man vs wild. Climbing to the top of a hill a looking over at a stunning landscape in HD or parachuting done to the ground while looking at terrific landscapes in HD would be enough to by this game alone. as long as its not to expensive. and did i mention how great it would be if it were in HD
yeah it be cool to hunt for cool looking animals and eating them in HD, plus I hope the game lets us drink our own pee in case of a last resort for survival
Man vs. Wild: the Video Game.
Now you can manage your video crew, enjoy an ice cold bottled water, and fake your way onto a reality TV show–all in a video game!
That's a good ad campaign. Tell it how it is.
lol, my thoughts exactly… i was a fan of survivorman… his show was real survival… making a game based on him would of been really sweet but, bear's show is like a hollywood blockbuster so, i can see where the appeal to make a game based around his show comes from… people might get bored with a survivorman game, lol… i wouldn't…
I want to see a game of Deadliest Warrior. That would be awesome…….I think.
Wow, my 10 month old baby watches Man vs Wild! Its crazy because its the old show he'll just pay attention to. Maybe he'll like the game…
Bear Grylls is pretty kickass too! Except for drinking his piss, that made me shake my head n' frown.
Oh god more mediocre games
The last Crave game I really wanted was The Lost on the PS2, though I'm a sucker for pinball games and will pick up the PS3 collection.
I'm still waiting on The Lost. 🙁
Unfortunately, there was never a bootleg of the unreleased The Lost game like there was with Thrill Kill.
No thank you! I'll just keep watching the shows.
hmmm, maybe man vs. wild like heavy rain type gameplay? I don't see why not. they just need to get a good well know developer to do this, or else this will flop. And deadliest catch game that ben metioned above.
Deadliest Catch is already a game on 360. I see the case at work all the time. Never had any desire to try it.
And dont get me started on the Man vs. Wild jokes. Oh wait, Man vs. Wild is a joke.
