Now that most of you are done with the single-player campaign in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves , you've likely gone online to check out the multiplayer aspect of this masterpiece.
Ever since we tested out the beta earlier this year, we knew that although it wouldn't be the focus of this game, the multiplayer was still well-implemented and nicely designed. But there are always ways to make this experience better and Naughty Dog isn't known for skimping on the details, nor are they known for being lazy and unresponsive to fan feedback. According to PS3Center , the team will make "a few small changes to the basic gameplay," but the big change is that they'll be looking to punish all you quitters. Creative director Amy Hennig deemed it "infuriating" and they want to "make sure it's discouraged," so you had best settle in for the duration in the future. There will be consequences for quitting but we're not sure of the specifics; all we know is that the update in question should arrive "before the end of the year." We noticed that quitters were a problem as well, and we shouldn't be surprised that Naughty Dog is planning to do something about it.
They just don't seem to be the "let-it-lie" types. They seem more like the, "wait, it's not perfect…make it better" types.

what exactly do they mean by quitters?
People who leave online matches before they're finished.
alrighty then. sorry for the novice question;I obviously don't know squat about online play.
Hexen, can't believe you got two thumbs down for asking a simple question. Ok, guess no one can ask questions on this site.
Hmmmm, did Ben give you one of the thumbs down? ;o)
ill ask it again, what exactly does that mean?
does it mean ANYONE who leaves a match before its over will be punished?
what about those people who run out of time? or something suddenly happens at home and they have to leave?
or what about the vast amounts of people that get disconnected prior to the end of the match? (which is me towards the end of the month)
if these people get punished aswell, i think that is HARDLY fair at all.

Akuma, if punishment means loss of a few points it's ok with me. it won't hurt too much for people with honest disconnects but will stop people who try to freshen up there stats.
I don't see the problem in Uncharted. But thats the way it always was, and should be, in RTS and Sports games.
Yeah Hexen you suck lol 😉
Akuma
It's all okay. Quitters leave often and you can tell who they are. But in most games, disconnection doesn't count as a quit. You're signed out of the server completely so yeah.
And if you don't quit often then you won't be punished as much.
I think they're referring to people who quit constantly, not if you've quit 10 times out of 1000 matches. servers time out, connections fail, nature calls, I'm sure naughty dog understands all this. I'd like to think theyre out to punish people who quit more than 10% of the time.
paint them neon pink in the next 5 games. that seems fair.

that happened at paintbaaling once, a couple of guys were tossing around and misbehaving, so in one match,, they were given limited ammo, and stuck to fight against both teams from the middle of the map. they felt pain.
I hate quitters!

But I get disconnected a lot, does that mean I'm screwed?
Very good point. Check mate… May you burn in hell for your pitiful LAN speed!
Actually I'll have to burn in hell for all the crap in between my wireless router and my PS3.
I would highly doubt it.
Resistance 2 didn't count disconnections as quits.
I think quitting is the act of *Press Start, scroll down to Quit/Leave Game, select/click X*
In the actual menu.
ahh..back to the good old really idioti settings of NAT Type fudging 2…
Countless hours spent trying to solve the issue and still no joy..
LOL @ WEWM's stuff between router and PS3.
drop their rank or tax their multiplayer cash. I h8 when players do this. it's not the bad ones,it's the good ones with higher rank when they end up in a not so good team.
yeah, there shud be punishment, in one of the deathmatch, 4 guys from the other team quit leaving only one poor guy to fight against 5, poor guy get shot like 25 times.

hey, that was me, and i still kicked their butts. more of them, more points for me, less for them.
something like that happened to me like 2 days ago 2 guys on my team got out and we were 3 vs 5 i hate when that happens, although we still won and it got 29-13
Yes quitters are annoying. An uneven team is almost definite that its a losing match. What's more important is that there are no reward for not winning, so i dont mind playing 4 vs 5.
That and some award when the team wins. When I play, I use the kamikaze method, not caring at the expense of losing score on a deathmatch. I get $250 for killing, and $500 for afterlife. If the team reward can be like $3000 bucks, i would be more careful upon tackling the stage.
its not definite, a team of 4 or even 3 can beat a team of 5. I/we have done it before, as long as your team isnt full of idiots who just rush out running and gunning.
Of course nothing is definite, if you have a Rambo, its a one man team like in the movies. I'm assuming you have the same players on both teams.
Nice to hear, its happened to me a few times in a match. Almost my entire team left once.
The quitters are a bit annoying but hey, i don't mind playing a 4 v 5, more kills =p lol one thing that is a little frustrating is the balance system, but whatever just a minor complaint, thoroughly enjoy the multiplayer though!
I dont mind quitters at all, what i'm pissed of at are the people who just throw grenades without taking into account that a team mate is there, especially when there are no enemies around. I got killed by my own team mate just because he wanted the weapon that i was going for. Luckily they automatically get kicked out if they do it too much.
i agree, u can kick them out of game if they kill u multiple times with grenades in a game
Friendly fire doesn't bother me in online matches. Even those that blatently throw explosives and/or fire into crowds of friendlies for no reason but to cause chaos. I'm all for chaos lol. It's the spawn campers that I can't stand.
Quitters freaking blow! Im glad someones addressing this because its annoying as hell to see someone not want to risk there records at the first hint of being killed! Its a paint in my f*cking a*s
Okay, I'll quite being a quitter.
I haven't quit a match yet but have been disconnected a few times and dose that count that I quit?. And what if you have to quit to attend other business. I don't care for quitters who quit just because their losing, but for some of them you never know their actual reason for quitting.
augh my house is burning down! what i lost points for quiting? noooooooooooooooooooooo!
I bet they just start adding experience multipliers for finishing the match, or the other way around
and what if its the game giving you the boot with a connection problem like the million and one i copped in the beta?
meh, i dont have to worry about it, ive got my plat so im selling uncharted 2 once R&C comes out.
8 days to go!!!!!!!
A lot of games don't count disconnections as quits.

this is really just stupid, im always turning my ps3 on for short sessions between tafe and work, well i guess i wont be playing uncharted 2 online.
instead of doing this, why cant they just put in bots, that way if someone leaves a bot takes the place and the game continues.
what they need to fix is all the time i play co-op and get to the checkpoints, theres allways someone screwing around and i have to wait for them to come and hold triangle.
but punishing people for playing your game is stupid, what am i suppose to tell my boss?
sorry boss i cant come in because if i do ill be punished?
hed say sure no problem, theres the door.
or sorry sir i could not finish my assignment because i had to finish my game otherwise i would get punished, or sorry sir i missed todays test i had to finish my game otherwise i would of been punished.

i love uncharchted2 and all but to be honest finding a decent game online is so frustrating. there should be some kind of option so that noobs play with noobs and pros plays pros… it specially sucks during co-op modes! anyone got to the crushing mode on the co-op yet?!
I think this is a bad idea as there is no way to separate those who quit because they want to protect their score and those who have no choice but to leave the match.
If the game is sufficiently popular then can't they automatically add in a new player to replace the person who has dropped out? There are surely plenty of people waiting to get into the game.
The only option I can think of if they do decide to penalise those who drop out of games and yet be fair for those who have a good reason, would be to stop them from logging back into multiplayer for 30 minutes.
If you drop out for a good reason then a 30 minute wait won't be a problem.
If you drop out to protect your score then you intend to get straight into a different match and therefore you will feel the 30 minute time out.

That is actually a really great idea!
Damn quitters.
It's okay to quit in real life but not in a game ^_^
*See what I did there? Thumbs me up brethren*
Its not really a bad thing if my team mate quits since more kills for me. Although what about if you just got disconnected? I wish they would add your scores if you got disconnected.
i want this game so much, but is it really worth 3 months of saving to get it?
Also, in theory this may work, but really, if u have to go somewhere and you quit the game, its really harsh if u get punished for that..
Its WORTH every cent!
a: three months?
b: if you have to go some where you shouldn't start an online match.
c: agree with WWW, worth t, very worth it.
30 perfect scores say anything to you steeve? it is amazing.
haha, its cos i only get £20 pocket money a month, and i have to buy all my own shizz so yea, i cant get a job to earn more cos i got so much schoolwork.
And yes, 30 perfect scores does say a lot
If money is that tight go rent it. It's all about the single-player campaign anyway. That's where the real production $ went.
I've never quit an Uncharted 2 multiplayer online but FIFA, goddamn! You'll find a whole lot of quitters in there.
I mean, its half-time and your down 4-0, you wouldn't want to see the second half. I beat some guy 5-0 first 30 mins into the game and voila 'Connection to your opponent has been lost'
Same way someone had me 4-0 before the end of the first half and I also decided to quit. Next minute he sends a message that read 'Loser' lmao! I could feel his pain.
Are you really surprised that people would mimic the tactics used in the real game. I know you call it football, here we call it lawn diving:P
