Many believe that despite its potential, DJ Hero won't see the same success – sales-wise – as its predecessor, Guitar Hero . Well, Activision is of the same mind.
According to VG247 , Guitar Hero co-founder Kai Huang says that Activision doesn't expect DJ hero "to show blockbuster sales straight off the bat." He said as much during the PLAY Digital Media Conference in Berkeley:
"We’re not expecting a typical videogame curve where you sell the majority of the units in the first month and then it decays quickly. We’re expecting this to be the type of game that may came out of the gate a little bit slower, but continue to grow over time."
He makes the point that despite the "Hero" label, most people really don't know what DJ Hero is about; "they don't know what you're supposed to do." So Huang says they're going to focus on in-store demos to help push their new music title, and you can bet they're also banking on the critical reception to convince consumers. He also reminds us that the best-selling GH title to date is Guitar Hero III (12 million units), which means it took three entries in the series for the franchise to really explode. Hence, they're looking to do the same with DJ Hero …i.e., they're patient.
Related Game(s): DJ Hero
I've had dj hero since friday and this game is super fun. To me its better than GH I think once people actually get their hands on it then it will take off in sales.
Everybody likes to play guitar. Not everyone finds "playing" a record player appealing.
i dont like playing guitar, in fact i cant stand it! especially for guitar hero, the guitar feels like a childs toy! anyways i much prefer the drums which relates more to this i think!
ill keep an eye on it!
i actually do not enjoy guitar hero/rockband due to the fact im not very coordinated. But DJ hero was actually fun to me.
I'm holding out for the Harmonica Hero collectors edition. Oh the fun it will be, passing the controller around the room. Hope you brushed your teeth.

Nice work tes37, that's some funny creative writing! We'd all be playing "The Swine Flu Blues" on that game!
What I was trying to say is the guitar is more appealing and familiar to the masses. A turntable, not so much. I'm sure DJ Hero is a fine game if you're willing to try it out.

I play guitar and I NEVER get motion sick from doing it. So naturally I dislike guitar hero.
DJ hero? I think that is Niche to say the least. That or a waste of money.

I would like to state that Tes was dead serious.
i think the problem they will face, especially early on is, no one wants to spend $120 for another "hero" game and gimmick controller, the turntable…
but, if it turns out to be fun, people will pony up for it just like they did with the guitar… but, it's going to take some time for sure… the store demo's definitely help because, that's how my friend was convinced to buy guitar hero…
My fiance got to bring the store demo home one night (she works at Gamestop) and I wasn't impressed one bit. Maybe it was the songs, maybe it was the controller being new, I don't know, but it didn't feel like anything spectacular and I love Rock Band/Guitar Hero. Rock Band more, of course.
Love the nickname.
They should call it DJ Feces
Woah, plainly said…
Pretty funny – if it's not selling now, predict that it will sell better in the future. I guess the possibility that it won't sell well – at all – just doesn't exist?
I'm glad to see Activision failing to meet earnings estimates. Hopefully that a-hole in charge of the place will get fired.
How does a CEO get fired? The worst that could happen is that they end up failing as a company. But with MW2 coming out there not going away anytime soon.
dispite them being horrible! why would anyone wish that the people who bring us games, especially entertaining ones like the hero franchise, (although i prefer rock band), and call of duty games, be doomed from the earth!
hate all you want but they still provide us with the entertainment. just cus you may or may not like them or the games they produce it appears the majority does! they'll be around for awhile it appears!

How does a CEO get fired? By the board of directors. They're the ones who hired him. I'm not hoping the company fails, just that the guy who runs the place gets canned. If you've read any of Kotick's statements, he says he'd make the games even more expensive if he could, he's only interested in making sequels to games, nothing new, and he may not make games for Sony any more because he's not making enough money off you guys. The guy is an egomaniacal jerk.
lame news today or what
Well its a uniqe direction for the "Hero" franchise so I can see why they are prepared for a slow start.
Speaking of unique I've got the code for brutals legends tenacious d guitar weapon ^_^ and im giving it away because I won't get online before it expires (no im not bullshiting and the proof will lie with whoever enters it first after I post it)
Will post details if Ben gives the ok to do so since I've got no idea whether its ok or not to conduct this kind of thing on psxextreme ^_^
just e-mail it to me! 😉
Nvm since it didn't garner any kind of response I'll try again on a piece of news that more people will read ^_^
ooooooo, 150bucks extra for Jay-Z and Feminem? how could I lose?
uh oh I insulted someones precious Feminem, daaaawww I sowwies, NOOOOOT.
Don't you mean…GAY-Z!!!
See what I did there? Huh? Huh? Muhahahahaaa :rimshot:
Thanks folks I'll be here all week ^_^
I'm getting this tonite at midnite. Go ahead thumbs down me if it'll make me feel better but it really isn't healthy reading news stories about a game you hate.
LOL. Will it actually make you feel better? Well I'm going to disappoint you then, thumbs up.
I didn't know this was even planned as a eventual blockbuster.
O another hero game, who would of known you can just slap a old name onto a game and it sell out the door.
o wait………………………….
No worries. DJ Hero will be on its third iteration by March.
You made me laugh, you get a cookie.
…but no thumbs-up? :'(
This has gay all over it and my face is hungry.
That is a whole wedge of dough to put down on a game without even trying it. A good set of second hand decks is cheaper with the added bonus of not looking like a tool when using them.
Not appealing to me, I really enjoyed RB2 but Haven't even played that for 3 months now got bored really quick
