Borderlands PS3 Patch Fixes Major Friends List Problem

While entertaining, Borderlands has its fair share of problems. However, Gearbox said immediately after the game released that they were aware of some of the PS3 issues and planned to address them.

They've done just that with a patch that is now available for the PS3 version. One of the biggest problems revolved around the Friends list on the PSN and with this new invisible update , we shouldn't have to worry now; it has been fixed "with no need to fiddle with anything." Gearbox still says they will continue to "support all platforms as issues crop up" and that support will undoubtedly include some downloadable content, which is on the way. They've already announced that the first batch should drop later this year, but above all else, PS3 owners want to have the same experience 360 owners have, which can sometimes be difficult (depending on the developer). For the record, Arnold had other issues with the game that don't center on the Friends list problem, so this fix-it patch doesn't magically bump up the overall score by half a point or something. I will be doing a second opinion review of sorts some time this week, simply due to the amount of controversy surrounding Borderlands (it seems to be everywhere around the Internet).

But anyway, at least this patch came out early enough so if you haven't picked up the game just yet, you have less reason to worry if you want it for your PS3.

after seeing this post i went back and reread the review for this game. i am not really sure how i feel about this game and not sure if i will bother with it. it sounds like a cool game and later when i hear its not filled with problems anymore (which could be never) i might just pick this up. very few mulitiplat games are making me interested any more.

Go to Gametrailers and watch the review there. You get a better idea of how the game plays since you see it in motion.

Man i would buy it. Theres a little framerate issues but i havent seen much else. The graphics when starting the game are all really pixelated but it fixes that quickly. I have played for a while now and have found tons of different guns. If theres supposed to be 500,000 guns ive probably only found 150 of them so far haha. I have a long way to go

Buy it. I addressed earlier that this game looked like donkey piss but then I actually gave it a chance and rented it. I'm glad I did because this game is MAD FUN!

Thank god I got a free burnt 360 copy to try 1st. Looks like after all the issues going on I won't be buying a PS3 copy after all. She because the multiplayer is really fun and reminds me alot of Crackdown for some strange reason. Hopefull Dragon Age Orgins doesn't suffer the same fate. Gonna have to try before I buy on that one too. It just mysteriously got fixed within a few days doesn't sound right to me.

I found that review so strange. I purchased the game (for $39.96 here in Canada) the moment it was released and have been playing it almost non stop for days with a lot of other people on my friendslist. We (as far as I know) have yet to experience a single issue (the friends list issue was resolved the day after the game was released, which would be the 21st) The game plays great and only gets a little laggy (which could be due to internet connections) when we were playing with 4 players in a heavily populated area, and only then during big gun fights. The only complaint I have is the long load times, sometimes they are longer than others and sometimes I don't even notice them. Hopefully there is at least something they can do to lower the time it takes to get from one area to another, but it's not that bad if they don't. At least the game doesn't freeze when friends come online or off 😛

What about the poor souls that don't have e-net access? Guess they have to stick with the crappy version. This is why DLC is such a bad thing now-a-days, it lets the dev not completely make the best experience possible before releasing their game. But hey I guess in the same light it's good cause if they missed something they can fix it, but certain mishaps should be noticed before they release it.

Well, if you don't have internet access then the problem with the friends list would never be an issue for you anyways…! 😀

Developers are misusing the fact that most of the consoles are connected to the internet. They should make sure that there are no bugs when they launch a product. Damn it, what the hell happened to Quality Assurance?

Yeah, the old downloadable patch "crutch". That's something that ended up plaguing PC gaming…..way back when it used to exist.

Bargain bin if anything, sounds like a cell shaded FPS where you go around picking things up a lot.

Hahaha Just my thoughts exactly. It looks like Fallout with cellshade graphs..
How are you feeling these days? I read on the past posts that you are having some health issue 🙁
If you been getting the flu and it looks like its gone and then it comes back, try to keep taking the medicine for a while longer, even after you felt better already. I find that some virus just fake it and if you stop taking your medicine it comes back with a vengeance…
My health is been screwing with me this whole year as well. Lost 20% of my vision on my right eye in June and today I had surgery to remove a tumor om my neck, thinking it could be cancer I was very happy when my doctor called me just 4 hours later to let me know that most likely, 99% its not cancer but then, he dropped the bomb on me… it's almost sure to be TB 🙁
I'll have to be quarantined at home for the next two weeks until the treatment start.
Anyways, hope you get rid of your flu soon!

I do want to try it but like World said I'll wait for the price to drop if I'm still interested.

@Karosso
I hope that everything starts going better for you health wise.

Having a _lot_ of fun with this, while it might not quite be up to snuff with the 360 version, if you like RPGs and shooters, you're likely to enjoy it, and if you've got mates to play with online, it's even better :).

Gametrailers has a side by side comparison between the PS3 and 360 versions. The 360 version loads slightly faster but the PS3 version is clearer and not as pixelated. Haven't tried each version myself so I can't compare my experience.

i agree with 95% of the reviews here, and i respect the fact that all reviews are an informed opinion.

…but i also have to say that i too have already sunk neary a dozen hours in to this game and havent found a stitch of slowdown, or any other errors apart from a lil screen tearing. i havent tried CoOp yet, but does look like its fixed, i assume it was broken.

this imo is one hell of a game, its challenging and certainly not over in 8 hours. its certainly NOT everyones cuppa, and you have to take that on board, but personally i think its very good! and i actually love the graphics too. maybe if i had followed this game from the start that i too would be disappointed, but i didnt and im not. i think its a refreshing thing to have cell shading in a FPS, XIII was awesome, so for me its a most welcome look.

Funny how most everyone that has actually tried the game likes it. 🙂 I havent encountered any problems with it either, but then again I've still got a long way to go before I've come to the end. Luckily!

My regular "coop-friend" and I had two seven hour sessions in this game this weekend, and now we've only just unlocked the first unlockable area. Granted, we do not stress with the progress but do all the little sidequests and stuff (plus a few healthy discussions on what weapon really is the best for our respective class and what to spend skillpoints on), but this game sure has a lot of mileage in it. However I tried playing it solo today, and oh man that was a turnoff – it's just so dull to wander around alone once youre used to the company. This definately is a coop-game – and as such it's probably this years #1!

well the patch didn't seem to work for me and what about the trophies glitching are they going to patch the trophies because I get the requirements for the trophies to unlock but some don't and I am not the only one 360 is having the same problems also

borderlands O borderlands how you disappointed thee.
i was so excited for this game seeing its almost the same as fallout 3 and i love fallout 3.
could of not started worse, upon putting in the disk i had to download the 3.01 FW update which took forever because my nets dead slow.
so instead of being 3 days behind schedule im now 4.
than i boot up the game, choose my character than 3 times in a row i get the games corrupted and had to delete the game from my HDD and try again.
4th time lucky and everything was sweet, it was exactly how i expected but better than fallout 3 i was so happy.
the intro made me piss myself laughing, the little robot is so funny.
than the repetitive enemies came in O god i have NEVER swore so much in the space of 1 hour.
enemies just keep respawning, like WHAT THE FUC**NG HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i kill 10 enemies so 10 more appear so i kill those to so another 10 appear so i kill thoes 10 so another 10 appear so i kill those 10 so another 10 appear so i kill those 10 so another 10 appear so i kill those 10 so another 10 appear.
JESUS %$#@$^$ CHRIST GIVE IT A BREAK ALREADY!!!!!
GEARBOX WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING, HOW IS THIS FUN???????????
seriously though, how is that fun?
how am i suppose to get to the next objective let alone complete it if i have to stop every 3 seconds to kill a enemy.
its easy and everything, you have plenty of supplies but how are you suppose to travel a distance if you have to stop every 5 seconds.
its like driving from Melbourne to Brisbane but stopping every 10 minutes its going to take FOREVER!
i like pointless mindless killing for the sake of it as much as the next guy but theres a line.
and gearbox you dident step over it, you LEAPED! over it.

You sir, have no idea what you're talking about. This game is great. Respawning enemies? Only after you completely reload an area (For the most part) That happens for your convenience actually. If you get stuck at a boss you can go back and level up. Oh man. how did we tolerate random battles in rpg's back in the day?

your constantly killing the same enemies.
for example im at the mission where you have to search those plants for 8 pods, the last one is in the cave towards the top near the drop next to a weapon crate.
i collected them all but wanted to open the crate to see what was inside.
i honestly sat there killing 30 enemies so i could open it, opened it, searched, found what i wanted and i had a enemy chewing on my leg.
so i exited and had another 20 enemies, the SAME ones that i killed previously.
you cant take 5 freaking steps without having to kill 10 million enemies.
