While PlayStation 3 owners can always look to the masterpiece that is Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots , Xbox 360 owners have the competition in the form of Splinter Cell: Conviction .
Labeled as a "true Microsoft exclusive," the next entry in the Sam Fisher saga is scheduled to arrive on February 26 for the 360 and PC, with no mention of a PS3 version. In fact, developer Ubisoft Montreal only recently said that there are currently "no plans to have Splinter Cell: Conviction on other platforms." This dashed the hopes of many a PS3 owner, especially those who love highly polished stealth/action titles and have enjoyed previous installments in the franchise at hand. But in a Videogamer interview , Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat has resurrected that lost hope with a simple, noncommittal reply to a direct question. In response to the query, "Is there any hope for them [PS3 owners] regarding the game?," Mallat said:
"There is always hope."
When pressed, Mallat responded that he "can't predict the future," but it's still "good to hear that people who can't play Splinter Cell are willing to." Yeah, you want our theory on the matter? Conviction has been in development for a long time; since the start of this generation, really. At the time, the Xbox 360 had a growing user-base thanks to a one-year head start while the PS3 labored during its initial launch (2007 was a rough year). Ubisoft saw this and were easily swayed by the idea of going exclusive with the 360…now, with the user-base gap shrinking with every passing day and 25 million possible sales existing amongst the PS3 crowd, Ubisoft almost wishes they could take back that exclusivity deal.
Just a thought. We're probably wrong…
Oh well. Not really a big fan of Splinter cell or noobisoft (apart from RSV).
Meh.
Meh indeed. I read an article about one of the 360 execs saying the 360's visuals beat the ps3 in multiplatform games. That article was on n4g, I thought it was pretty funny. I guess they don't have an exclusive to talk about.
im with you ben i think ubisoft sees the rise in PS3 and would be willing to make a multi plat game!i think it would be smart for them to as well!
since i do enjoy splinter cell, and i enjoyed double agent alot, i would love the chance to play this game if given, otherwise ill have to do without… its not like i dont have other games to play or anything! 😉 this should be a good holiday season!

WTF is this ? Is he talking to the family of a terminally ill patient ? It's a game friend , everything will be fine either way .
the last game was real bad so i dont care for this one
Unless they rebuilt and optimized the game for PS3 it will just be another 9gb xbox port.
No thanks. I'll stick with Metal Gear.
I don't see what's all the commotion about either it is or it isn't coming its not going to make or break the PS3, I'm so sick of developers
No thanks to a watered down port. If I want stealth, I'll stick with Solid Snake!!!
Yannis Mallat was generalizing with his answer. It was a tongue-in-cheek response.
The XBox360 has Splinter Cell & Left 4 Dead.
The PS3 has FF14, God of War, Heavy Rain, The Last Guardian, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Socom, AGENT (Rockstar), Killzone, Resistance, Motorstorm.
Which would you rather have???

to be fair they have halo and gears also. but besides that point, i thought ff14 was timed exclusive, i think it is! if you count that as exclusive you have stooped as low as the xbots. and by no means is it exclusive just because of time!
anyway the reason i bring that up is to get clarification on if its timed or not i guess.
and no im not thinking of ff13 being exclusive to japan either!
yeah FF14 is only a timed exclusive and it will be on the 360 at a later date while PC and PS3 get it immediately
thanks for the clarification i thought i knew that then mid sentence doubted myself!
Even if it does come to PS3, I still won't buy it. Timed exclusivity needs to die a painfull death. 3rd party devs need to learn that they can't keep lying to us gamers.Claiming that they're games are exclusive, only to release them on another platform with updated graphics and extra content. It's not fair to the gamers who bought the original(and incomplete) version.
I really enjoyed the the first three Splinter Cell games(haven't played the others). But I'm not going to pay full price for a crappy 360 port(a la Bayonetta).I'm going to have to wait and see the require specs for the game to see if my PC will be able to handle it.
Gets a big meh from me as well.
xbox was the worst thing to happen to the gaming entertainment community…they are the beaver dam for great games.
well I will say that the 360 is bring down the quality of multiplatform games down for the PS3 but they are some what responsible for all the features that the PS3 has been getting since 2008(like trophies).
i gotta admit thrill kill your right!
between the buying up exclusives, and the times exclusives, and the horrible ports, and retarded devs like gabe newell slacking cus of the ease of development for the 360, it really has in the big scheme slowed down the vid. world!
there is a slew of first party and PS3 exclusives coming out and all the ones that have this gen (excluding haze, although it was more of a dissapointment than a bad game) have stepped it up, and further pushed boundaries, and made awesome gaming experiences, while the 360 exclusives have slowed to a halt it seems like or end up on the ps3 later. and the muliplats although the horrible ports, are mostly gone seem to be demenished in sorts because of the 360. now b4 i go on i wanna point out im not bashing the 360 but what i am saying is there is an obvious scheme going on and that is that the 1st party games being released for the PS3 are of excellent quality and are amazing everyone! while some mulitplats are shaping up nicely this holiday, being MW2, and AC2, the fact cant be ignored sony is releasing AAA games left and right!
it might just be me but i think things would be alot dif. if M$ wasnt money hungry, and stubborn. its not necessarily the 360 fault, but M$ has a way of making good things go bad, and even worse making bad things look good! i actually kinda felt bad saying that about M$, i dont know if its remorse or because its actually true?!?!
if this game was meant to be on the PS3 we will see it and i will play it otherwise i will have plenty to play over the next 6 months, and im sure even beyond that!

Bigrailer19 – "M$ has a way of making good things go bad, and even worse: making bad things look good!"
Excellent quote.
its a microsoft conspiracy, microsoft entered the console market to tank it and move people back to pc gaming, hahahaha.
back to pc gaming?
M$ is treating the PC like the bastard child.
like the games for windows epic failure, or the cheap crappy port of gears 1 or the absence of every halo game since 2.
i seriously can not believe bungie have stuck with M$ after all there hardcore PC gamers, what they have done to PC gaming is unforgivable!
@Bigrailer
Well said brother.
I'd personally like to check this game out. It's up to Ubi to stand up and not be M$'s b*tch.
Microsoft only had splinter cell to go up agaisnt Metal Geat Solid
Splinter Cell has never been and will never be as good as Metal Gear.
Come on, Would you rather give $60 to Ubisoft or Kojima Pro and Konami?
Hey Ben, you can just say you think its because MS paid off UBIsoft for a timed exclusivity deal! We will forgive you.
Um…of course they did. A publisher doesn't voluntarily say, "yeah, we'll just erase the possibility of more sales for almost no reason."
There's always hope after a timed exclusive check runs out 😉
I like your thinking there B Dukats. They need to bring this to the PS3 for no other reason than to thank us for buying their first Tom Clancy joint for the PS3. I don't remember getting to the first checkpoint in that game. I like the looks of this one. Since I'm a PS3 only gamer, I gotta hope for a change of heart on this one.
I was a long time fan of SC games and was completely pissed that they went exclusive w/ M$, but that's their loss…By the time SC comes out, I'll be dropping 60.00 on Mag or Assasins II…two makers who will gladly accept my $$.
lol assassin's 2 is also by ubisoft
We've got God of War 3.. Xbox can have their Splinter cell exclusivity
I think way too many of you are dismissing Splinter Cell in favor of Metal Gear. I also get the feeling that most of you never even played SC.
Obviously, there's no comparison in terms of storylines and artistry in general. Kojima wins (and will probably always win). But I have to say, I've played every single Splinter Cell through to completion, and it's simply more authentic and realistic in terms of gameplay. The controls are also more fluid and more accessible.
I'm not saying it's better than MGS – both MGS3 and MGS4 are two of my favorite gaming experiences ever – but Splinter Cell is a LOT better than you guys are giving it credit for.
I agree; I was about to say that too as I was reading the article, but you beat me to the punch 🙂
the 1st 3 were realy good the last one thou was blah
just not fun at all and the LAME mini games like makeing mines or what ever was NO FUN
Everyone who said "meh"… I agree with you. The sh**box can keep this. PS3 has MGS4 and that's all I need. =)
P.S. And yes, I've played a few Splinter Cell games. They're not very fun.

Spliter cell games have never caught my attention. I have alot of good games for the PS3 to finish and get platinum trophies on them. I guess Splinter Cell is for the hardcore fans.
It should stay on the 360. The 360 already has some kick-ass games, but has been lacking some top-notch exclusives lately. The ps3 already has plenty of highly anticipated exclusives coming out the remaining of this year and the begining of next year. We should be more concerned about how much money we are losing towards video games; rather than adding more video games on our list. Our wallets are already sad enough! lol
Who are these people who "can't play Splinter Cell?" Does he really think gamers don't own both systems? Most people are just tired of their noisy, if not broken, 360 and want to play their games on the PS3. If they won't bring their game to the preferred console, well then I guess they'll sell about as many copies as Dead Space did on the Wii.
a lot of ppl dont have a xbox if you got a PS3 and a PC you dont need one
hopefully it does come to the ps3 i enjoyed the first 3
I hope they're not ruling out a squiggly line.
*Two drums and a cymbal falling off a cliff*
Cool. I didn't know it was confirmed for PC. This is great news. Another Xbox game I don't have to buy on Xbox 😉
seems to me he was just being a smart ass there.
though i really dont want this to come to the ps3, if it does i will no longer have a reason to keep my 360.
O besides crackdown 2.
each system needs its exclusives, the ps3 has MGS4 so let the 360 have splinter cell conviction.
still one of my most anticipated titles of next year.
I loved SC and I will miss Conviction if it doesn't come to the PS3. I bet they (Ubisoft) really feel like kicking themselves now seeing the PS3 are starting to dominate the scene… But I guess the Xbox needs all the exclusives they can get right now. The PS3's exclusive library is growing at a rapid rate and they are way ahead of any other games coming out… It's a simple proven fact and not fanboynism…
It seems like Ubisoft is trying desperately to make it's games more appealing to the audience knowing that the PS3 exclusives most notably – Uncharted 2 – has completely overshadowed every other game this generation (so far) has to offer. It's like they're trying to put SC: Conviction in the same pedestal of U2 but unfortunately the result would be in-vain.
Don't get me wrong, this is a first-day purchase for me on the PC as it's looking to be one of the best titles next year. If SC: Conviction IS a timed exclusive – I hope the port would be handled excellently (just like all other "timed" exclusives).
Sorry Ubisoft, you're just going to get a *yawn from most of the PS3 owners out there. The PS3 exclusives that are coming out next year have garnered ALL of the attention. So stop teasing us and just stick to where your guns are at. If you intend it to be an exclusive for the 360/PC then just end it there.
I dont think Splinter Cell beats MGS in any way. Heck, even the way they run..mgs win.Plus its more fun.
I'm probably the only here who would take splinter cell over MGS, simply because I've never played any MGS game.
I've never been a huge Splinter Cell fan, but when I saw that trailer with missions and stuff projected on the backdrop I wept at the thought of it being a XBox & PC exclusive…
