SCEA Confirms 250GB PS3 Slim For November 3

The 250GB PS3 Slim rumor is no longer a rumor, as Sony has announced that it will put a 250GB SKU on the market in the US on November 3.

And despite the belief that it would carry a $399 price tag, the MSRP for this new PS3 Slim with a massive hard drive will be $349, according to PunchJump . This model will also be available in other regions as well; Europe should get one that includes Uncharted 2: Among Thieves , and Japan will receive that very slick Lightning-themed model in honor of December's Final Fantasy XIII launch. Said SCEA vice president of product marketing, Scott Steinberg:

"The PS3 platform is poised for a tremendous holiday season. We kicked things off early with the new price point and sleek form factor and have continued the momentum with this week’s launch of the universally acclaimed exclusive, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. The new 250GB PS3 provides consumers with another compelling hardware option and speaks to the growing consumer appetite for digital content from the PlayStation Network – particularly high-def content that showcases the power of the PS3 system."

So if you haven't slimmed down just yet, you may have incentive to wait a few more weeks, especially if you're gonna be jamming a ton of content into your machine. Of course, the 120GB model should be big enough for most (after all, the hard drive is double the size of the one in the original PS3), but hey, save data and downloadable games can pile up pretty quick, right?  Nothing wrong with more space.

Thats pretty cool.
I wasnt expecting a $399 price tag because $100 extra didnt seem like it would have made much sense since all your getting is more hard drive space.
Glad Sony didnt decide to do that

Ya, only Microsoft would make a stupid move like that by over-charging for a mere HDD, *giggles innocently*

This is great. And they even got the price right too! Too bad the US region doesn't have a killer custom bundle PS3 like the other regions, but…whatever.

This is gonna move some 3s! Good move Sony.

Xbox will do the same with The Call of Duty 250gig edition. It's happening again! But Sony will Triumph the competition, If they add a game.

Except that the Call of Duty 360 bundle comes with a 250G hard drive, a copy of the game, and an extra controller (two controllers total) for $399… not bad.

Say what you want about M$ft (and I've always preferred Sony's consoles), but they know how to put out killer bundles.

Since I don't have a PS3 just yet I might try saving up for this one. After all, I tend to make multiple save files for games that need it. I also intend to explore the downloadable content and games I've heard so much about. I may like my collection, but being able to play a lot of enjoyable games on one console at the touch of a few buttons has its perks.

Sol; I was tempted in purchasing Unchartered II upon release but felt it better to wait for a bundle. I think if I can get a Slim (that will be my second PS3 for the bedroom) with a 250Gig hard disk and Unchartered II bundled with it; that really is value for money.

I was going to purchase a bigger hard disk and Unchartered II, together that would have set me back close to 170 USD… rather wait, pay a bit more and get a console thrown in too 🙂

I am also very happy as I found a really good second had store for games in Singapore called Silvery Note. Dirt 2 is selling for the equivalent of 38 USD second hand… fantastic really. I am keen on waiting for second hand games now that are in good condition. I can get my games for 20-30 dollars cheaper even if I have to wait a few weeks, which I will do 🙂

Q!

"i am home"

how does new skus bother you now? It was clear when it was 60gb to 80gig w/bc to 80gb w/o Bc to 40gb to slim cause you're loosing features. however from 120gb slim to 250gb isnt much different other than hard drive space. For an extra 50 bucks you get twice the space, i think you might be even be saving money. I know i paid more than that when i upgraded to 250gb a long time ago.

ahhhhhh sony screws Australia over yet again 🙁
why are we paying 100 more when the US is only paying 50 more?
we get everything later.
half the stuff we miss out on.
and yet thats not enough we have to pay more for everything too.
im starting to think sony does not want us to buy ps3s.
they want our money but when it comes to delivering the content, well mayb next year.

You have to take a lot into considerations when comparing prices in different countries. Average income, Tax, importation costs. A lot of places have import tax's that are outrageously high. For example in Mexico you can buy things much cheaper than in the USA or Canada.

Another thing and this may not be the case just something that could factor in is the market size. If there potential sales are relatively small then they up the price to compensate or or just don't ship it at all.

But the biggest factor in anything is what said Country government thinks of video games. I know Australia get it bad with this with the government outright banning a lot of game and media. I remember earlier this year Australia was trying to pass a bill to ban all MMOs do to them being "Unclassified" games because you can't really rate online interactions. Don't know if it ever went into effect though.

Don't blame Sony when its the same for every company everywhere.

lol don't hate on lowkey… if my history's correct (iunno its been a while since i've learned bout' aussieland…) but wasn't australia a big jail continent, a place where the tea drinkers shoved all the criminals who were unable to shape up and conform post incarceration? then after a few 100's of years, like canada, India, etc… The Aussies broke off royal ties to the queen of tea and became independent..

lol and lowkey, you forgot those baguette munching french frogs that them tea drinkers had a lil scuffle with… (imo, i say let them separate… once they become broke, those Quebecois will crawl back wanting green cards…) lol i love talking bout our great northern hockey rink… where the beer is good, and the women are fine 😉

"in my country the criminals apologise after they shoot you."

i sware to god thats true… lol us canucks are the greatest bunch… in the states, i was hit by a dodge ram… and the driver got out and asked "ME" why "I" hit "HIM!!!" lmao, i got hit here in cornwall (ontario), and the people came out and stayed with me even at the hospital until I was better… frig we're nice 😉

UHHHH, Jawknee we Wahoos (aboriginals) are not free in our own Country, little bit of Canadian history would do you some good. And as for Austrailia, no the did not kill my parents, they did something even worse, they censored the internet, as did China. Im not really making fun of the country I'm making fun of the government. Aussies are awesome, I think they have a very cool culture and I love the names they give things, like didgeridoo. Oh and line??.. corporate owners are more likely to be criminals, as are doctors and surgeons.

thats hilarious, only a month after a price drop they jack the price right back up. All you who say good for sony are really blind. HELLOOOOO DO YOU SEE? 50 bucks less than the last price duuuuuh. open your eyes your getting a ps3 with half the features of a tubby for more. I love Playstation but can you say rip off? open your eyes and see the big picture here. No wonder they keep bringing out bigger hdds. its so they can jack the price back up.

johnld
johnld

They're not really jacking the price back up. getting a decent 250gb hard drive could cause you more than 50 bucks. The ps3 pricing has gone down by 100 bucks. i believe it was 399 and 499 before. Now its 299 and 349 which the "High End" model being 150 bucks cheaper than it used to be. I think you're forgetting that they arent going to discontinue the 299 model for the 349 250gb ps3. Just like before, there will be 2 SKU the cheaper "entry level" model and the "high end" model.

As for being a stipped down model of the ps3, i agree with that part. However, people still didnt buy the system when it had all its features which i believe was a very good deal. I bought the 60gb ps3 when it was 599, although i dont really use the backwards compatibility that much anymore. Fact is that with all the games that the ps3 have now, you wont even be playing the old ps2 or ps1 games that much so it really isnt necessary. The ps3 was being sold at a loss from the beginning and it wasnt selling as much as they wanted because people were complaining about the high price despite all its features. So in order to meet this they had to remove stuff so more people would buy it given a lower price. Fact is that you cant please everyone but a lower price is much more appealing to consumers. As far as i can see, the features that sony took out from the 60gb models to the slim werent necessary anymore or can be remedied cheaply. Backwards compatibility = buy a ps2 since its cheaper. Loss of USB ports and card readers = there are those usb expander things, some even have card readers. If you really want to have a machine to play ps2 games on, keep your ps2. If you're ps2 broke then get another one real cheap (used or new). Again, you wont really play much ps2 games because the ps3 game library has grown a lot.

Back to the point, Sony didnt jack the price up. It can even look like they lowered the price for the "high end" model. Ps3 SKUs are usually 100 bucks apart. differences other than hard drive space: 20gb vs 60gb difference is card readers and wifi. 60gb vs. 80gb at first limited backwards compatibility, then removal of 2 usb ports. 80gb vs 40gb no difference. All these SKUs are 100 bucks apart in pricing. Now they introduce the 120gb vs. 250gb models which is basically the same as the 40gb and 80gb, well…you cant install other os but were talking about average consumer so it doesnt really matter, priced at 299 and 349 which is a 50 dollar difference and about twice the drive space like how you get twice the drive space for the 80gb compared to 40gb which was a 100 dollar difference. I believe that they will have the base model at 299 while the 349 model will be mainly limited bundles like 160gb. I know i forgot the 160gb earlier but you get the point.

Wow what a long ass speech lol, but you are missing the point. There shouldn't a high end and low end, Its not a computer, and it cant be used as one anymore, It's a console. This gen is bringing way too many unnecessary changes to consoles. The only console sticking with the old ways is the Wii, there may be a new look for the Wii in the future, who knows? but Nintendo has always done that, but there arent 600(over exaggeration) different Wiis with different stuff in them.

@ LOWKEY

ok your frustrating me to no end so i gotta say something, which i ussually dont do!

whe the PS3 first game out they had two sku's on the shelf that were dif. in hdd space. then they came out with two new sku's replacing the 20 and 60 gb models with 80 and 40, the 80 having partial b/c, then they dropped b/c. now up until a few weeks ago the 80gb was the mian console after the 40gb faded out, now they have the 120gb slim and apparently the upcoming 250gb slim. what your complaining about is irrelevent. M$ has had atleast 3 sku's on the shelf at once and they all differ greatly, considering the fact one doesnt even have a hard drive, and they are changing more frequent that sony's platform!

the reason for the high end low end as you so called it is for consumer preference. most people wont need 250 gb of hdd space, in fact alot of people prbably wont even use the 120 gb given in a short period. Second is price even though its only a $50 dif. most people who know they wont use the space can op for the lower priced 120 gb model! if sony didnt have two consoles out im afraid consumers would still be saying i wish they had a base model or a lower model for this ONE model is to expensive! you dont think right because this gives option to the consumer which is what we want, well obviously not you, but thats probably cus you own a ps3 already so…

now calling this a rip off is also obseen! you dont get it at all… nothing internally and how the PS3 runs has changed and u still get the same exact game and entertainment experience with a new slimmer model a hefty $100 cheaper making it $299, and a bigger hdd, and your calling it a rip off? i dont get you. and now because they throw another sku in that is still $50 cheaper than the 80gb, that now has a 250gb hdd that is 2x the size of the 120gb if you can do the math, and your calling it a rip off. Sony did what everyone asked and more by bringing a hefty price drop, the slim and a bigger hdd drive that more than doubles the size of previous models, you should be on your hands and knees! yet you decide to bash. you should really think about the whole picture rather than the fact that your probably disgruntled cus you bout a 120gb slim a few days ago and now get this news! which yes im not sure even happened but u seem disgruntled about something!

anyways this is awesome i may be picking this up later for sure, i am getting keen on the slims and i def. go through hdd space so…

i can make it short and sweet if you like…

how bout this, the 120gb slim, and 250gb slim bring the same game and entertainment experience as previous models, with the perk of having a big hdd, so whats your problem with it? ur one of those people that just keep complaining i guess. btw there is only 2 models on store shelves at a time, can you not count that high or something? cus they have had yes 7 dif. models but at completely dif. times, are you confused by all this? and what is sony making people work hard to do lol?

you-"i want a cookie"
babysitter-"fine just one"
you-" its not chocolate chip"
babysitter-"well we dont have chocolate chip!"
you- "then why do we even have cookies?"

get over it dude, like i said sony has done what everyone asked for and more your just to blind to accept it!

as for what jawknee said i would agree too but i dont know whwre he is finding a 500gb hdd for $80 unless its used, cus even te 320 gb hdd on amazon is $60 bucks…

LMAO bigrailee
thank you for proving my point. They do give THE EXACT SAME GAMING EXPERIENCE, so now ps3s are exactly the same feature wise there is no high end low end any more dum dum. so why buy a more expensive system, when you can get the exact same thing with a smaller hdd for 50 bones less? were not in 40 60 or 80 gbs anymore if you still need more space you can go buy a new hdd, because by the time u fill that 120gbs 500 gb hdds will be much cheaper. unless your an internet nerd who downloads everything he sees. So dont give me that smug bullcrap. And ur lil babysitter thing kinda made u sound retarded, mabey leave the insults to the pros.

It's still smarter and a better value to buy the 120 and a 500gb HDD off Amazon for $80 bucks. Yea you spend 30 more then you would have on this 250gb but you get double the HDD for only $30 more.
