Naughty Dog has quite the sense of humor.
Those who have been following along with graphical trends this generation can easily point to the decided lack of vibrant color in some of the top titles. In fact, it has been debated many times in gamer circles everywhere; why do so many of even the best-looking productions seem to focus on grays, browns, black, and dark greens; i.e., drab colors? Well, Uncharted has always been the exception to the rule; those lush environments are very, very pretty and just a joy to behold. But if you want to see it in "true next-gen" format, the developers have provided you with the "Next-Gen Filter," which puts a "bland blanket" of sorts over that healthy color palette. This feature was in Drake's Fortune but this time around, it's even more exaggerated and hence, more comical. They've got some screenshot comparisons in the gallery through that link and as you can see, it's a fairly pronounced difference and one worth laughing at.
Yeah, something like Gears of War looks awesome but the lack of color in this generation was really starting to grow tiresome. It was one of the reasons why the first Uncharted really opened our eyes to what bright shades and hues could look like in this generation. And Uncharted 2 took it to yet another level. But if you need that "Gears-y" look, you can have it.

I think this is brilliantly funny.
i'll keep my color thanks!
also "Gears-y" is hilarious
if you need that "Gears-y" look, go play

The folks at Naughty Dog are brilliant but that's not exactly news to any one(here at least).
I believe this is also in Uncharted one, i think it was a filter you unlocked. I can't remember if they called it "Next-gen" as well, but it turned everything dull and brown… I also think it added a lot of bloom to everything haha.
Yeah it was in the first, Res 2 also had a similar filter.
Wow….
Just goes to show you how simple it is to make things look "Gears-y" if a company like ND can throw it into their game as an afterthought just to get some laughs.
lol sweet!!! ND told them..
haha, that is a very nice bi***slap.

This would be a cool feature, if it weren't just a sepia filter. It doesn't make things drabber it makes them browner, my video camera can do that to real life. What ever, I wouldn't have used it anyway but it doesn't seem like anything worth talking about to me.
brown, yes, it should be called the "poop filter"
LoL WorldsEnd 🙂
Q!
"i am home"
my point exactly.
why do games with excellent graphics have to be so bloody emo?
killzone 2.
splinter cell conviction.
alan wake (kinda understandable because its a thriller but still needs some color)
even multi plats like BRINK and singularity, there suppose to have KZ2 quality graphics and there as black and white as a 50 year old tv.
games dont have to consist of a color pate of black, white and brown to have good graphics, both uncharted games, and ratchet and clank along with resident evil 5, DMC4 and lost planet 2 have proven this.
Woooot
We don't only have Gears-y, we have Fallout-y and Killzone-y too 🙂
There was a next-gen filter in the first Uncharted too.
i said it before and ill say it again.
greatest game ever!
if anybody wants to party up in multiplayer my psn is flyingkickpunch, drop me a line!
i just bought uncharted 2 yesterday and the game is f**kingly gorgeous and stunning!! I only just played the first stage and my jaw dropped on the opening sequence and cutscenes of the game. It is a must buy game for ps3 owners. Congrats to sony and naughty dog for making this awesome game.
