When it comes to console exclusives, there will always be surrounding rumors that pertain to the multiplatform possibility. Such has been the case for Bioware's popular and critically acclaimed RPG, Mass Effect .
Now, when EA snagged the title, most PlayStation 3 followers believed it was all but inevitable: surely they would bring the sequel to Sony's platform; EA simply doesn't believe in sacrificing sales for the sake of console exclusivity. But when Mass Effect 2 was announced, EA only revealed versions for the Xbox 360 and PC, which came as a big disappointment to some PS3 owners. However, since that time, we've seen multiple rumors and pieces of evidence that point towards a PS3 release for the hotly anticipated sequel, and the latest comes courtesy of RPG Site citing the Russian branch of EA. As you can see, Mass Effect 2 is listed as coming to the 360, PC and yes, the PS3. Furthermore, UK retailer GAME also has a PS3 listing for ME2 in their database and combined with the other piece of info, has sparked plenty of discussion. We've always wondered why EA would cut out nearly 25 million potential customers by ignoring the PS3 but perhaps they had their reasons…maybe they're just waiting for the right time to announce the existence of the PS3 version.
On the other hand, this could all be false information. We're hardly the only ones who find it hard to believe that EA would produce a console exclusive title this generation, so maybe those retailers are just assuming. But if they're right, it's yet another great RPG that's headed our way.
I'd love to get Mass Effect 2 on PS3, but only if it is worked on separately to take advantage of the PS3 hardware, no crappy ports with frame rate and graphics issues.
Also, Mass Effect 1 would need to be released on PS3 before ME2, so PS3 owners can still continue with their save game from ME1 when starting ME2. That would be sweet.
But I still get the feeling this is all rumour and speculation, nothing but a mistake on databases. I work at EB and there is definitely no listing for ME2 for PS3 there. Either EA can't hold it's leaks or it's just a big mistake by these stores who thought multiplatform meant 360, PC AND PS3.

EA/BioWare refuses to say there will not be a PS3 version, no matter how many times they are asked. They simply say something like "we are announcing that is is coming to 360/PC." They are quite evasive. If it wasn't coming, they could just say as much.
Just wait for the announcement mass effect 1 and 2 on a single bluray disc.
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that I remember reading somewhere that there is not going to be a continued save option for ME1 to ME2. Something about it being too difficult. I don't remember exactly.
Don't know how it'd be so difficult, .Hack games have always had continued saves, lol
The PC version will have that ability. I'm sure the 360 version will as well.
I think it is inevitable. EA/BioWare just cannot announce it yet because Microsoft paid for timed exclusivity. Remember the interview with the BioWare bigwig who was asked 3 times about a possible PS3 port and all he would say was "at this time we are only announcing for the 360 and PC." I think the Gamestop slip with the ME2 bonuses from Dragon Age is actually correct information, but they cannot share that until the PS3 version is announced. Patience, my young Padawan. I believe it will come in due time.
And the saved ME games will only carry over your choices, not your levels. They have said that you will start over with all your powers due to an unannounced plot device. They could always just ask you what choices you made the way it was done for KOTOR 2, thus not requiring the first ME to play. Otherwise how would they handle those 360/PC people who never played the first game?
It could be a typo but Amazon mentions an exclusive in-game item for Mass Effect 2 in the PS3 version of Dragons Age Origin.
Meh.
I played the pc version of ME and i wasnt really impressed. It wasnt a bad game, just not necessarily good.

Typical bullsh**, just like the Left4Dead coming to PS3 confusion a few months back. If the 1st ME isn't on the PS3 by now I see no reason why they would release the sequel on the PS3.
BTW hopefully ME2 isn't a bug filled game like the original. Thank god for PC gaming.

cause ps3 has bluray and i believe both mass effect 1 and 2 can fit on a single bluray, since we'll probably get ports. Im not saying this is the only way they'll sell it, im just saying they could. but selling it seperately might get them more money. Either way, im not getting it, my brother has ME1 and I wasnt impressed. I think most "kids" got it because they heard there was a sex scene.
Well Dead Rising wasn't on the PS3, yet it is getting part 2.
DMC1, 2, 3, wasn't on Xbox or the 360, but it got the 4th.
Same with Tekken.
yes but neither of those are story driven games.
mass effect is, how the hell are you suppose to understand whats going on in ME2 without playing the first.
its like watching godfather 3 without 1 and 2.
^^^
I loved ME 1 and really don't care if they port that to the PS3. It would be nice but I'm not going to get my pants in a bunch if they don't.
I would, however, seriously consider buying ME 2 for my PS3 as that is currently my prime console.
Since M$ published the first game (though not the PC version), I doubt it's possible to see it on PS3, though the current silence about a PS3 ME2 could be a trade-off for some reversion of rights to Bioware. Maybe a montage of cut scenes?
The ideal would be both games on one disc, but how often does the ideal manifest?
i still woudn't buy it. ME1 just wasn't the game for me. But this would give xbox fanboys a run for there mony.
Game was okay but xbox pro press love to overrating it just because it was not on Ps3.
Timed exclusive, nevermind the rumors and listings, the language EA uses is easily decoded.
I need to learn that as my 3rd or 2nd language 😉
Bioware finally comments with "no comment"
link below.
EDIT : crap… just go to QJ it's the first story.

could see this coming from a mile away, now the only question is how will they bring mass effect to the ps3.
bringing ME2 to the ps3 without ME1 would be incredibly stupid because
1 most people will want to continue the story and understand whats going on.
2 they will want to continue their save file, if they still have that feature.
and for those reasons most people wont buy it.
what would you do?
buy ME2 on the 360 and get the full experience.
or buy ME2 on the ps3 and have no clue in hell who the characters are or whats going on.
Do we even know ME2 will be a direct continuance? What if each one is different but just having an old ME1 save file helps you along, kind of like with Suikoden II on PSX?
Part 2 takes place two years after the conclusion of the first one.
but does it have the same characters and junk?
Yes it does
This is the only game i want from the 360, i beat the first and loved it. Like i said with Star Ocean 4 and TOV, its obvious that there coming the real question is when?
More shooters is what the PS3 DONT need.
its not really a shooter per say, you cant run and gun. and there is strategy to it along with the leveling and rpg elements
If you want a shooter go for Fallout 3 goty
if a PS3 version does come out. I wander if I could transfer my ME1 save game? I can see my Xbox gathering more dust if this happens. Only shadow complex and BF1943 are keeping my busy, now and then, on that platform.
At least Bioware hasn't manifested an Activision attitude yet. Yet….!
Q!
"i am home"
someone hand me the emerald sword to slash this series out of existance space rpgs are just evil!!!
Have you even tried the game? It's quite amazing and has a lot for you to do, I've already completed at least 30 assignments, and I haved even finished the first 3 actual missions I was supposed to do in the first place.
Agree with Legendary. Rogue Galaxy was also a great sci-fi/rpg as well on the PS2. And can't forget about the brilliant Xenosaga.
HEY! Are we forgetting Xenogears? For the money I don't think it gets much better than that jewel of a video game. Granted it wasn't totally a "space" RPG but it was sci-fi nonetheless and it was terrific.
No we didn't forget lol. Just naming something more recent. I'm sure there's gamers today who never heard of, or experienced, that RPG classic. I really need to play my copy again.
Wait… why give the sequel but not the first? It makes no sense. I can't just simply start a sequel to a game unless I play the first. To me it's just wrong.
Eh, honestly for me, whether it comes out on ps3 or not I'll just get it for pc, I have the first on there and it's a terrific game, so I'll just get it on pc again
I tried to play Mass effect… boring as hell, Bioware cant make an RPG.
The fact that two stores seem to have it listed is interesting. Hmmm…we'll see. Always nice to have another game.
If it's a port then they can keep it! I'll stick with all the great PS3 exclusives that are coming out.
I just beat Mass Effect twice in the past week and have to say it`s one of the best RPG`s I have ever played. Way better than any of those RPG`s coming from Japan. If the sequel does come to the PS3 than this is fantastic news for PS3 owners. If you haven`t played a Bioware-developed RPG yet you don`t know what you`ve been missing. They`re games are nothing like the stuff your used to playing from Japan, which are all starting to look the same to me. Keep your fingers crossed on this one!
You have obviously not played Demon's Souls if you think ME is better than all the RPG's coming out of Japan. 😉
All kidding aside ME is great you're right but Demon's Souls is beyond words. I highly recommend that you pick it up and give it a go if you are into mind bendingly challenging games.
You`re absolutely right coverton341. I forgot about Demon`s Souls! I haven`t played that game yet but I`ve heard nothing but good things about it. Gonna check it out soon.
well hopefully this dosen't turn out liek the orange box at all because that was poor
Bioshock. That is all I will say.
Exactly.
The fact that BioWare will not say "there's no PS3" version is enough to keep me hoping.
This is one of those Xbox games I'd really like to have on PS3.
it'll never come out on ps3, microsoft got all da rights of masseffect reserved……:(
