EA has already tried their hand at turning classic novels into video games ( Dante's Inferno ), so why not go for ancient yet still legendary history?
According to Destructoid , EA's Visercal Studios has apparently started work on a game based on Jack the Ripper, the Victorian-era serial killer who quite literally got away with murder. Committed over 120 years ago, the crime remains a mystery and it's not worth going into the grisly details of the five prostitutes who suffered grim deaths. Now, you might think this would be a mystery/detective game, where we'd assume the role of a Scotland Yard officer, but in fact, it seems we'll actually be playing as the killer himself. …yeah, let the controversy begin. But if the information is accurate, we won't be wandering around slaughtering innocent women; EA is supposedly taking some definite creative license and portraying the Ripper as a "supernatural slayer protecting people from demons, vampires and other evil monsters." You know, like Van Helsing. EA hasn't commented on this rumor just yet but we expect to hear something concrete before the year is out; they may not want to steal the limelight away from Dante's Inferno .
Well, why not? Dante is nothing like the main character in the book, so why not just make some stuff up about Jack the Ripper? We're still wondering why they'd want to give such a malicious character the title of "hero," but, well…whatever.
No no no no no! Why?! Jack the Ripper: Good? I vote no. How can you make him a good guy? He's supposed to be an anti hero, EA, so leave him like that!
If we love Kratos who is so bad ass, why not for Jack?
Actually, Jack The Ripper is a villain, not an antihero.
Characters like The Punisher and Wolverine are considered antiheroes because while they fight for good and have good motives, their methods, including killing people, are extreme. This is in direct contrast to the traditional heroes (or boy scouts) — like Spider-man, Superman, or Batman — who have a strict moral code of not killing or harming anyone, even the villains.
So, while the classic Ripper is a villain, EA, with this game, is making the Ripper an antihero.
not exactly ancient.
yea that sounds…
I can't even think of a joke for that, it sounds stupid.
probably doing it JUST for the controversy.
sounds interesting:) should be a mystery game, third person. with some horror elements. and nothing supernatural
This is going to fail miserably if true. It sounds even worse than the last Jack the Ripper game that came out a few years ago. Make it a detective/thriller type and then maybe.
isnt that what they said about Dante's Inferno? and that seems to be shaping up quite nicely
Finnaly a game besides GTA where you can go around murdering hookers. We should all salute EA for their ability to find what we gamers want most
Ripoff, my third novel is about Jack.
you should make the game script!
OH ^%%$##$%^%$#%%%$#$#$$##$$#@#$#$$# YES!!!!!!!!!
but first finish and give us dead space 2.
careful EA your on track to be my favorite publisher.
wow what a turn around, 6 months ago i was ready to hurl Molotov cocktails at them.
I was ready to driiink Molotov Cocktails with them ^_^
EA has recently put out an impressive array of quality titles. I think they deserve the benefit of the doubt here. Who knows, this could turn out really well.
Hmm, I guess it has a slight chance of working but if he is going to be a supernatural slayer what the hell does that have to with Jack? Why not just make a new and more polished buffy game?
Either way I like how EA is being the exact opposite of activision and showing they have the balls to fund new IP's, especially ones like this that don't have infinite sequels written all over them.
Jack the Ripper? Vampire killer like Van Helsing?wtf? Is it so hard for them to think up an original character to kill the undead? If they want to make a Jack the Ripper game then I'm sure the creative licences they'll need to take to tell the real story would be more well received then this supernatural garbage. But hey it's still early days, who knows what way this will unfold. Guess we'll just have to stay tuned to find out!

Now talk about an original idea!
………
Exactly. People are always moaning that big publishers dont want to take chances anymore. Well, here's a gamble for ya 🙂
This is gonna suck. Jack the Ripper never killed any ghosts or monsters in any of the movies I've seen. Especially in "From Hell" with Johnny Depp.
Doesnt' sound good at all.
I dunno, this game just sounds like it won't bring out that much interest in the general (normal and civilized) public. It will most likely appeal to the crazed inmates of Arkham Asylum though.
and Dracula will kill him in the end, and then in the sequel he will become a vampire himself! then maybe he will go rage against werewolfs and giant spiders.
Interesting… Hopefully they will show something soon or release some details.
dam looks like its exclusive to the wii.
whats with these devs latley?
i hope they realize in making it exclusive to the wii there cutting there sales in half.
first mad world than the conduit than cursed mountain now this.
and i seriously cant see this selling well since 99% of wii owners are kids, or soccer moms.
if any of my friends mothers found out a serial killers game is on the wii they would sell it in a hear beat.
thats the only reason they bought a wii because its a "kid friendly" console.
