Aerosmith. Metallica. The Beatles. Van Halen. The list of legendary bands that could eventually land their own Guitar Hero or Rock Band goes on and on, and perhaps U2 is on deck.
According to USA Today , bassist Adam Clayton has said the band would be interested in having their own video game. Oddly enough, it seems the band has actually turned down offers to place their likenesses in a game, but as Clayton said, it wasn't exactly "what they wanted" at the time. And why not add your name to the roster? This has proven to be a great way to bring certain music to a new generation that – argue all you want – doesn't really have much in the way of real music. Said Clayton:
"We definitely would like to be in there, but we felt some of the compromises weren't what we wanted. That could change. I love the idea that that's where people are getting music, and we'd love to be in that world. We'll figure something out. What The Beatles have done, where the animation is much more representative of them, is what we're interested in, rather than the one-size-fits-all animation. We didn't want to be caricatured."
Okay, so…the next time you hear the name "Rock Band," it'll have "U2" attached to the title, right? There's little chance that Harmonix will ignore such a comment, even though U2 isn't exactly categorized as "guitar-based rock." They've been around long enough and have produced quite the eclectic library, and besides, we now have the option of a lead singer in our music games. Speaking of which, maybe they'll go for SingStar like Queen…
They could have been in the opening sequence to Brutal Legend. I'm kidding.
Someone want to tell U2 to have a Rhythm based game themed after you, you have to actually have music people want to hear let alone play.
So you think because you don't like their music that no one else does? Really? I will admit that I only listen to their stuff from 1990 and earlier but there are millions of fans who like their recent stuff. Denying that would be ignorant. I think they should release a shmup with their big bobble heads sticking out of the cockpits. That'd sell.
@ fluffer nutter
i agree, their best stuff is pre 1990s, but i like some stuff from the 90s – 00s era. i don't really care for the newest album no line on the horizon. how to dismantle an atomic bomb was much better than that.
you must be in that of group of kids that was born in 1993 and on that loves to embarrass themselves by the clothes they wear or that listens to that sh*t called rap…or both…
@Nicker
I thought that was funny. I was brought up with a Dad that still rocks to Hardcore, I'd of been disowned if I were jammin to these guys. I was born with a negative disposition of softy music. Thats just me though, and Nicker, and Metal Head…..

Absolutely not. They have made enough money from they're thousands of fans. I respect them as musicians but they're music seriously blows.
It's their. Not they're.
agreed… i guess i have to respect them for their global fame but come on, there's other legendary "rock" bands out there, give them a game… these guys don't deserve a rock game, maybe they could start a whole new game called, "electric-pop band"… they are not rockers, they just get rockstar treatment because they're famous…
seriously, give bands like rage against the machine, stone temple pilots, alice in chains or red hot chili peppers a game… honor the 90's rock scene please…

I personally wouldn't play it and I don't think the band would even sell out like this, but a Pearl Jam based music game would be cool to see, how obvious is it that I'm a fan lol?
yea, i mean if they are honoring a band from the 90's, why not use an actual legendary "rock" band? U2 is not rock… period… plus, i think a lot of rock music listeners hate U2 anyways… or maybe that's just the people i know…
to add a few more worthy bands: beck, clutch (love these guys but, i don't think they're popular enough), deftones, foo fighters, green day, korn, the offspring, primus, radiohead, smashing pumpkins, soundgarden, tool, nine inch nails, weezer, etc…
anybody but U2 please!!!

@ Jamer
You do realize that PJ have already "sold out"? They have around 20 songs in RB.
@ bOnEs
U2 isn't rock but Beck is? Credibility lost.
Bullet The Blue Sky. End of discussion.

Greeeeeeeen Daaaaaaay!
AFI so pwnz all except HIM & Rhapsody but theres no need for a U2 game
Speaking of Yngwie, they should make a shredders tribute or something! i'd get that! Malmsteen, Jason Becker, Rusty Cooley….that would get me in!
AFI is just generic, no-talent emo trash. No offense or anything but…that's what they are.
I was going to comment about AFI with a similar regard but I thought the emos would come out and curse me. Watching them live is pretty comical. It's great when you are in the pit, front of the stage, laughing and the vocalist starts whining between tracks how you're annoying him. The crowd had a great laugh each time.

of course no one would ever think of thumb-downing BEN!!

Gay slurs won't be tolerated. At the very least you should all be able to come up with something more creative, then "they're gay". This isn't third grade anymore.
What…
You too???
*Two drums and a cymbal falling off a cliff*
I hope somebody got this.
BTW U2 rocks (for me).

Bah Dum Chish!!!
this would be my first buy into the music genre
but i will only do it for U2 and THE EDGE's amazing guitar solos
i want to be THE EDGE and bono would be kool too
THE EDGE!!!! LOL
MAN I WANT THIS NOW!!!!!
INSTANT 1ST DAY BUY
U2 is one of my favorite musical artists, and arguably the greatest. But my problem with music-based games still remains (though I don't really have a problem with 'SingStar' games, despite my not being a fan).
If they released something like 'U2: Rock Band', I would likely buy it. But in all probablity, it would remain unopened and be immediately added to my collection of music-related paraphernalia.
Anyhow, despite my personal protests against this particular form of entertainment, I would like to see more people exploring U2's catologue. For, as popular as they are, I still believe the majority of their music to be underappreciated.
"U2 is one of my favorite musical artists, and arguably the greatest."
They are a great band, that in itself is a true comment, but the best? Ehh I wouldn't really say that…you wanna see the arguable best…Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins(you could make Billy Corgans head the size of his ego lol), or Led Zeppelin…though we'll probably never see these games made…
As I said, it's arguable, and it wouldn't be difficult to make a good case for them.
As for your examples, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin would be easy to defend. The Smashing Pumpkins may be my absolute favorite band, though most are too closed-minded to appreciate more than their popular work.
Personally, I don't think Radiohead has yet branched out enough to be a candidate for the greatest, and Hendrix only ever released three albums (albeit great ones), making it rather difficult to argue in his favor.
But, back to U2, I think one of their greatest strengths is also a reason why many people don't appreciate them. They're extremely versatile, and their second record is the only time they've retread musical territory. Listening to virtually any two U2 records will yield different results, some of them wildy foreign from each other. And most people can't keep up, which is why they generally lure a diverse audience.
You have to admit though, Bono acts like a douche bag
Well, I don't HAVE to admit anything. But, while I do think Bono tries too hard to fit in as of late, I also believe he's sincere.
Besides, compared to the majority of celebrities, he really does seem like a saint 🙂
There was a anecdote I heard once (not sure if it's true). "At a U2 concert between 2 songs Bono urged the crowd to become silent. When it was a quiet as a sold out concert could become Bono began to slowly clap his hands. After about 30 seconds he said 'Everytime I clap my hands, someone in Africa dies from Aids.' And in response one of the the drunk fans near the front yelled, 'Then stop clapping your ****ing hands!"
Whether its fair or not that is sort of the way I see Bono, as a well-intentioned good person, but very annoying because of it.
That particular story (which is indeed untrue) has been attached to several activists (mostly politicians, but the Bono usage seemed to be going around the internet several months ago).
And, as I stated, I definitely think Bono goes overboard trying to fit in with the celbrity world, but I can't say I have a problem with his activism. In my experience, it's the hedonists who are praised by the general population while the activists have every issue in their life nitpicked at.
Might just be a reason for me to by Singstar or Rockband.
i wouldn't mind seeing a U2 based music game,
but only after they make a Queens of the Stone Age game. (preferably rock band, cuz RB is just better all around)
w00t!!
Respect U2 but I don't like them…now that Varg was realesed just give me Burzum Hero with history mode feature !

I might pick up the game if it's going to be free like GH VH is with GH5. I'd prefer a game featuring STP, Tool, Rage, etc. etc. but I don't see any of those artists getting their own games.
Just offer songs through Rock Band DLC instead
Oh god no not another Rock Singstar Hero game please lol. I will be passing on this it is not my type of game. Do like U2 though but still not enough to warrant me to buy a game. 🙂
U2 actively looking at prostituting and selling out even more for further financial gain… what a surprise :/
I never cared much for U2. I have always been a Metal Head myself. I dont really mind bands doing this, though. Its a cool way to reach out to your fans (Im looking at you, Mr. Page!) as well as gaining new ones.

Off topic discussions are what the forum is for there's actually a section specifically for things like this. Comment sections are not the place for them.

U2 is an overrated band period. I like Bono's ideas, but his music is too slow for me. Long live thrashmetal……
Slayer!!!

Long live all music.
Few, for a second i thought you ment U2 as in Uncharted 2….jeez you scared the sh*t out of me!
Lol!
@Jojoman,
I don't care if I typed the wrong word, if your an English-Literature major that's cool but if not then don't waste time correcting me. Why did Van Halen deserve a Guitar Hero? I'm baffled on that one.
Relax, dude. Put the lipstick down and save it for when U2 come out with a game. 😉
@BeezleDrop
