It will probably never be as popular in North America as it is in Europe and other regions around the globe, but…well, EA might not even need us for this one.
Today, EA has announced that the recent launch of FIFA 10 is a legitimate record-breaker; the hotly anticipated soccer title sold 1.7 million copies at European retail in its first week of availability, which makes it the "fastest selling sports game ever and EA's biggest European launch in history." Well, damn. It's not scheduled to release in the US until October 20 but then again, it makes perfect sense that Europe sees this bad boy first. Said Peter Moore, president of EA Sports:
"We were confident that FIFA 10 would be a hit, and this week fans across Europe have shown just how much they love this game. We are incredibly proud of FIFA 10 and this kick-off for great, authentic football competition."
So far, most of the critical scores come from European sources but they're all very high – it's currently averaging nearly 92% at GameRankings – and you can bet that soccer fans everywhere are happy that EA continues to provide them with very realistic depictions of their favorite sport. Since the European launch, there have already been over 10 million gaming sessions recorded, with over 155,000 gamers playing online simultaneously. That's just crazy . We'll be bringing you our review of the game later this month but needless to say, we have very high expectations.
Related Game(s): FIFA 10
this or pro evo, used to be pro evo, then fifa, but pro evos meant to be good as well…
argh, I know…Everyone else will be playing Fifa but I still enjoy the core experience of PES so much more. What to do…
Buy both I am
One Fifa down, two PES to go
Used to be a pro evo fan,but i mus admit fifa 09 was gud,cnt wait to get fifa 10
played with ma gf last night….
she was playing with real madrid(cr,any1?)
…n believe me this year they are way overpowered……
Its a spanish team.
They looked weak against Manchester United
I always set the game play to slow, then change the camera to either tele or Broadcast which makes it a bit slower
Didnt America beat Spain this year? How does the US look stats wise?
USA are ranked 11th in the world just behind France so fairly good.
PES10 simply failed (judging from the demo). They hardly improved anything, it seems like they just added some new kits. Fifa at least have actual improvements that are noticeable.
Co-sign!
Its just a demo, Fifa is almost the same as Fifa 09 so putting a awesome demo against a full game is unfair and misleading!!
PES gameplay is flawless PES 2010 looks great
Great game although the EA severs cant cope with so many people playing at the moment
Its usually poor connections that makes online frustrating, but I don't understand the huge demand for live season
Football not soccer. Well at least in Europe.
I'm aware. But I'd rather not confuse the majority of our readers.
Peter Moore calls it football in his press statement. Enough to make you happy, yak? 😉
I will agree with Europe on this. Soccer involves a ball that you kick with your foot. American football should be called handegg, but whatever, we are stuck with it and I am a fan regardless.
if anyone GETS confused they deserve it 🙂
They shouldn't be confused when reading the article. I don't live over there I was just saying Europe ppl call it football. That's all!
@ worldendswithme They do deserve it.
Yep I bought yet another iteration and the improvements are fantastic, especially the graphics and the short passing. I have noticed that it seems slight easier than last years.
My avatar says it all. A long time FiFA fan. I'm glad EA made this much sales. Since 2002, I've never missed any one installment. Now only if Ben & his American brothers will ever buy a soccer game remains a mystery.
I've been playing since 2003 although i couldn't get 09 I'm getting FIFA 10
How'd you miss 09?! Straight classic though FiFA 10 is classic-er lol.
America will never fully embrace soccer, and isnt it spelled futbol? A lot different than football, and whoever suggested handegg, NO. I can't stand soccer, or golf, most boring sports ever, American Football is actually entertaining and has a sense of urgency and keeps you on pins and needles till the end.
So does european football too.
It wouldn't hurt to push this item in Latin America as a bundle w/the Slim.
Fifa10 is great. I have it and I am loving it. It feels slightly harder than the 09 version though. I played them both on semi pro, 09 was a breeze last year and I had to upgrade the level to make it a bit of a challenge. This yeat Semi pro is a lot harder than last year so I am happy they have made it more difficult so I am hoping it is harder the next level up too.
funny. i'm finding it the other way. I've to playing on pro level.
How do you european chaps handle the boredom of futbol?
A question like that is like me asking the same thing about American sports. A waste of time. I did not grow up playing or watching them. Why would I understand them or want to understand them.
Plus the rest of the world plays football.

I was just bein a dick, I know everyone likes different things, but man I know this girl who thinks BASEBALL is more action packed than American Football and it drives me up the freaking wall. I mean there's opinions and there's facts.

lol
i have never enjoyed Fútbol but my relatives do…to each their own. I for one prefer tennis 🙂 but good news for EA and Fútbol fans everywhere.
yak4life85: Football not soccer. Well at least in Europe.
Yeah, but this is an American-based website. We already have a sport called football, in case you haven't heard.
And you call cigarettes 'fags'.
nope.
cancer sticks.
Fifa is a good game, but I am buying pro evolution 2010. Is more accurate to the real thing. PE2010 has better gameplay and fifa has better graphics.
Now is this bigger than madden? cause I'm wondering which continent is crazier about their virtual sport of choice
this game is brilliant for a good laugh.
the commentary always gets the play wrong.
like ill make a break shoot and score and the commentary will say well that shot was not good enough just high of the crossbar.
EVEN THOUGH IT WENT IN!
or they will say defender makes a brilliant tackle when i passed the ball before the defender got to me.
its like WTF
are they watching a different game to me.
one thing thats really annoying though is im constantly getting free kicks against me.
i allways and only use conservative tackle x.
but almost every single tackle i make i give away a free kick its driving me insane.
and they need to adjust the power when shooting.
ill be lining up a shot and feather touch circle for a shot and the balls kicked so high the moons going to get knocked out.
same with corners, i can never score from a corner i try to header it in and it always goes way to high way over the crossbar even though i only feather tapped circle.
a feather tap should be a feather tap, if your angry with the commentators give them the ball after the game!
i wonder when fifa will start incorporating the euphoria engine.
im pretty sure madden started using it this year, and its actually quite incredible.
it simulates human moment almost perfectly.
it has the most powerful physics based engine to date.
i hope some games really start to use it, because it has allot of potentional.
same as DMM (digital molecular modeling) like the tech that was powering star wars the force unleashed.
