There was little to no chance GameStop wasn't going to hold a midnight launch for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 . They do it every year for Madden and Infinity Ward's sequel could easily outsell this year's Madden entry.
So yes, most GameStop locations will be holding midnight launch events for the hotly anticipated title that releases on November 10 (so the festivities would begin a few hours earlier on late November 9). A few local stores around here will be running little promotions where those who show up will actually be able to play the game during a brief competition, while other stores will supposedly have nifty giveaway prizes. For even more goodies, head on over to SuprizeAttack , where you can enter to win any number of prizes. If you have pre-ordered the game, you have two chances per day to win some Modern Warfare 2 gear, and that includes a TF 141 wristband, a CoD: MW2 Carabineer, a t-shirt, and more. In addition to those specially-themed Monster energy drinks, you can bet that this game will be everywhere for the next six weeks or so. Furthermore, we've heard other retailers are doing similar promotions, so you may want to check with the likes of Best Buy and GameCrazy if you still haven't pre-ordered. Oh, and despite what you may think, that Prestige Edition is a very hot item; most GameStops we've contacted say they went through their pre-order stock in only a few weeks.
It's gonna be a huge release; that's for damn sure. Besides, we'll be nearly a month past Uncharted 2: Among Thieves so the timing is just about right for yet another huge blockbuster.

Yes, I do believe I will be at this launch. I've never been to a midnight launch before but I think MW2 will have me in its grasp. Honestly, I'm a Call of Duty freak. I've been playing since before the PS3 or Xbox 360 was even out. I had Call of Duty 2 for PC and that's when my online addiction began. Now I'm all about everything I see Modern Warfare 2, and yes I have the Prestige Edition pre-ordered. Call of Duty forever!
I'm sure this is an excellent game, but one game per year, even Metal Gear Solid would get dull after a while.
I wish people would stop shopping at Gamestop. They are the worst. But nonetheless the game will be great!

Because they're over priced and are taking money away from developers.

The last time I checked, GameStop's prices for new games were the same as every other place. I bet that everyone who says they hate GameStop does so simply to be on the "Hate GameStop Bandwagon".
Even Best Buy is considering joining the used games market. So will you hate them too?

#3 usually dont support PS3
#4 usually Xbox FANBOYS
#5 Gamecrazy is SOOOOOO much more BETTER in all these areas & BustBuy is a pleasent chain & offen not crowed lik most GS
#6 Gamecrazy will buff-out my scratchs & i can put a $3 year warrentty w/ dem

lol what, everything you put is all relative, you can't just say collectively every gamestop is like that. I've spent hours at my gamestop playing street fighter 4 with them, on the ps3, and all of them like the ps3, except one but he's a pc person. They're hardly a monopoly, I can tell you a handful of other stores that sell video games, walmart, target, best buy, gamecrazy, amazon.com even. and how do you know all gamecrazy's are like that? have you been to every single one, i bet you there's at least one store that has xbox fans as employees. You can't just dis on something because everyone else does and you somehow take some kind of collective survey of people spamming on the internet. There's honestly nothing bad about gamestop that I can even see. If you want to support the developer, buy new games from them. if you want to buy used games from someone other than them, then just go somewhere else with better prices, it's not like the world is required to have a used game retailer, soon enough you won't even have one when stuff go all digital.
well EB who is owned by gamestop charges 110 AUD for every single ps3 game on release.
JBHIFI on the other hand are between 70-90AUD.
i picked up NFS shift for 70 bucks from JB when EB wanted 110 for it, same for halo ODST JB had it for 85 bucks where EB wanted 100.
even worse when resi 5 came out EB wanted 120 for the normal and 150 for the LE, went to JB and got the LE for 110 bucks.
10 bucks cheaper than the normal and a massive 40 bucks cheaper than the LE at EB
thats why people hate gamestop/EB because their the worlds biggest rip off besides M$ and moneyvision.
I can see what you're talking about. Call of Duty 4 has been out almost two years, and GameStop still charges $45 for it used. I can buy Street Fighter 4 for $32, and that game has only been out for about six months.
On the surface this does seem like skewed pricing, but I like to think ( I have no idea how pricing is determined by the way) that the reason why some games are more expensive than others is because of the publisher. We've all heard Robert Kotick say he likes to exploit the games he publishes. He does not like to support new IP, and blatantly says that he only favors franchises that have obvious sequel material. So it makes sense why Activision still charges a list price of $50 for the established CoD4, while a smaller game like Mirror's Edge now sells for only $20.
So, instead of blaming the high prices on the retailers, think about who publishes the games. Instead of hating on GameStop, do some research on who determines the price. And remember this: GameStop, as a retailer has to purchase the games it sells from the publishers, and to make a profit, they obviously add a little bit to their selling price. Maybe the reason CoD4 still sells for $50 new & $45 used is because Activision still charges near $50 for it.
Keep in mind, I do not know any of this for a fact. It's simply from personal observation and what little knowledge I have of the business world.

yea if i was comparing 2 different games ok yes it would be dependent on the publisher also on how popular the game is, but im not.
the reason why MW is at a higher price is part of moneyvision as you said other part because its more popular than mirrors edge.
just like uncharted, that did not drop from its retail price for months because of word of mouth people were still buying it months after release.
same for infamous, that did not drop retail price for a while.
where KZ2 dropped like a stone because people bought it were extremely disappointed and took it back.
A nice party I'm sure, but I won't be attending. I didn't play the first. I don't need to play the 2nd. I have no doubt Infinity Ward did a good job with it, but I really don't feel like supporting Activision right now.
Honestly Im a lil more stoked for Uncharted 2. Im sure GameStop didn't want to offend the other side of the fence with a console exclusive party so they fell upon Mw2 to get there groove on.
My wife is gonna make fun of me for days if I go…so I will!

I went to the Killzone 2 midnight launch at Gamestop. It was just a bunch of guys who pre-ordered and went back home to play.
Midnight launches for movies on the other hand, I've seen a lot more assorted freaks. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter. I've been to them all.

The GameStop in my area has been great, I'm going to that Mid-night release no matter what.
