There's little doubt that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will be one of the best games of the generation. But despite all their accomplishments, some people are still saying, "hey Naughty Dog, where's my new Jak and Daxter ?"
Well, we may have some good news for you. According to a recent EGTV interview with Naughty Dog's Arne Meyer, it seems that the developer may eventually bring back the awesome duo they have in their stable. Meyer was quick to point out how the developer has moved along with each new generation; they provided us with Crash Bandicoot on the PS1, Jak and Daxter on the PS2, and Uncharted on the PS3. And when asked if the team would ever revisit Jak and Daxter , Meyer said:
"We definitely hear a lot from our Jak and even Crash fans from a long time ago, um, and we really hear those things and you know we'd love to be able to be working on a new Jak for them at some point so, that might be in the cards but right now we're really sort of focused on working through this [Uncharted] franchise."
Evan Wells didn't really add much in the way of encouragement but still left us with a glimmer of possibility, when asked a similar question during a recent Examiner.com interview , where he replied:
"I think you know I can’t answer that question. But I will say that all of us here love the Jak and Daxter franchise and would love to play in the universe again. Right now most of the studio is on a much deserved vacation and with all of the hard work that went into finishing Uncharted 2, we haven’t even decided what we’ll be working on when they get back."
We get the feeling that a whole lot of you out there would like to see these two return in another game; Jak split off on his own last generation, and Daxter got his own adventure on the PSP. But they haven't been reunited since the original title first dropped nearly eight years ago, and this has been a sore spot for those who fell in love with that game. But hey, there's always hope!
If a new jak and daxter came out, heck a high res version would be enough, its instant buys for me. There are way too many shooters these days.
looks like a trigger happy fps fan thumbed you down!
Shaman King!
i named my naughty dogs, jak and daxter!!!!
zing!
That would be straight fire; This Gen could use a "good" platformer like Jak and Dexter.I would have also liked a new "Naughty Dog" Crash but who ever owns the license absolutely raped it to death.
We have a great platformer already: Ratchet and Clank.
Of course, one can never have too many great platformer games.
I would have liked if this gen had as many Platformer games as FPS.I know that's kind of impossible but there's still time.
That would be awesome to have this and a new Crash, an actual Crash, not those stupid things like Mind Over Mutant.
Unfortunately for Crash he's owned by Vivendi Universal. Naughty Dog is owned by Sony, so they don't have the rights to develop another Crash game. At least Vicarious Visions did a fantastic job with the first two GBA games, but their later titles seemed to be running short on ideas, too.
DO IT, NAUGHTY DOG!
my lungs are going raw from screaming at you to bring my favorite dynamic duo back! I really dont care how long it takes, just DO IT!
YES!!!!!!!
I don't know, those games got kind of gloomy and downright dark by the third installment. I think many have forgotten the complaints about those games when they were first released. If ND were to revisit the franchise they'd have to bring back the feeling of the original game to satisfy their fans.
Seeing as how ND is proving to be quite the perfectionists with this gen of games I'm sure they'd want to do the Jak series justice and not release any old thing with the Jak name on it.
I would rather like to see Insomniac get Crash Bandicoot or Spyro back..and make a good game with them, I'm more fond to them (well Spyro anywayz) I never really liked Ratchet and Clank or Jack and Daxter that much, for some reason I left the Platforming phase during those years and was all about the MMO's at that time, haha
Spyro was made by Imsoniac
But yes, a freaking Crash Bandicoot would soooo rule!
I don't think Universal (copyright holders) would refuse. They'd be making good money from this too.
I'm very confused. John what are you talking about? Jak and Daxter have been together in every game but Daxter. They dropped Daxter from the games' titles but he was still very much in the game in the ever-important humorous side kick role. And Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier hits PSP either this fall or next year.
I'm kinda all Jak'ed out. I'd prefer some more Uncharted or something completely new.
I hope ND does the next Jak game. The upcoming PSP and PS2 one is terrible.
You played it already? It didn't even come out yet.
Ya ya
when there back they will work on uncharted 3 thats just obvious.
than i hope they work on another crash bandicoot game.
i finally got 1,2,3,CTR and crash bash in the mail today and have spent the whole day remembering good ol childhood memories.
i would love to see a crash bandicoot warped 2,
same level structure and everything.
than a new CTR and im set.
CTR is probably the best in the series because of its replayability it never gets boring.
than add a sequel to pandemonium and oddworld and im in heaven.
O and insomniac need to go back to the spyro series.
omg the j and d games where one of my fav series on ps2 plz bring a sequel 😀
Is the new PSP game not by Naughty Dog?
hmmmm well if crash is anything to reference from that cant be good.
Though to be honest i didnt like J2&3 much, it was to sand box-ish and focused on shooting rather than being a platform game, but i do love the first game 😀
I totally agree re being disappointed with the "sandbox" style Jak sequels. I hated treking back and forth on those stupid hovercraft things. Seemed to spend way too much time shooting and traveling, and not enough platforming/puzzle solving.
If ND makes another one, I hope it's not another Jak Off effort.
Did ya both beat the game?
I got Jak 2 and wasn't into the open towns at first.
But after a while you realize how genius that was. It really makes things really fun.
In fact it references back to J&D where environments were open like that too. The only difference is that they added more town places.
Anyway, you gotta play all the way through, to REALLY appreciate how good Jak2 and 3 are.
"Did ya both beat the game?"
Yes….I seem to remember it taking a long time too. By the time it was over, I was just relieved.
Personally, I would love to see Naughty Dog finish off the Uncharted trilogy (and, of course, the inevitable Uncharted racing game) before they return to their more-classic roots. However, that doesn't mean that they couldn't spice up a HD pack for the Jak trilogy (i.e. the God of War Collection) and possibly release PSN remakes of the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy (since Vivendi Universal now owns the rights). That would make everyone very happy and keep them at bay until a real sequel to Jak & Daxter is actually released (I don't count that new PS2/PSP one because it's not developed by N.D.). I'm always going to think that Sony was stupid for not buying the franchises for Crash and Spyro. Those were the PlayStation mascots and they just let them go away.

Uncharted trilogy? What are you talking about? ND said they'd keep making them as long as the fans want them. That's most likely more than three.
This sounds like a good idea on paper, but then we would miss out on Uncharted 3 for a wile. So yes if they cad do it within a year but i rteally think tis won't happen because Naughty Dog seems a lot more grown up. I'm not really sure how to discribe it but i don't think that they will revisit the past, especaily when they taste the money Uncharted 2 brings in, it's unfortonate that some gamers don't buy sweet games like lbp or r&c because they are too "childish".
What is their to consider, do it Naughty Dog. It may delay Uncharted 3 but I think it would be worth it, always good to have a break and work on another project, it would probably benefit Uncharted 3.
I hope they don't…
>Get under his desk afraid of the torrent of thumbs down coming<
They have not disappointed me with every new IP they created and in fact they seem to get better and better. Who knows what they would do next? what ever it is, it most likely will be amazing!
Just keep innovating ND don't ever look back!
This is awesome, although never played a Jak and Daxter game but have no doubt it'll be amazing, considering the fact that anything ND produces is special.
Hey Jon, Why not link gamesthirstarticles.blogspot.com where you got the first piece of your news from? All the other sites are doing it. Show some Journalistic respect to your colleague….
Great site you have there by the way…
We always link to the relevant sources. The actual source in this case is EGTV, for which there was no link (apparently).
And if you're a representative of gamesthirstarticles, you should probably contact us directly about this kind of thing.
Playing J&D was the main reason I really got into gaming… after reading all the posts, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that loved this series… I'm not into the FPS's, most games now are too intense and violent, I do love Uncharted, but the vast world of Jak&D was always fun to explore….. I didn't have to worry about head shots… or movie type cut scenes… I loved the weapons that the challenges the game provided… I'd love for this game to come back…
Edit.. I forgot to say.. the Jak and Daxter series was one for maybe 3 that I've actually played from start to fin…. I still haven't completed MGS4, GTA4 I could go on… not that the current gen gams or not good.. they're great.. but just toooo intense… I can only play about 20mins of killzone before I have to put it down… geezzz… I may just be to old….

I never got a chance to play Jak 2 and 3 but Jak and Daxter was amazing when it came out. The mechanics and feel were perfect, the visuals were awesome, and with no loading times the game was simply awesome if youre even remotely into platformers. I think uncharted is great but i can definitely see room for a new j&d.
Personally since i havent experienced the last 2, i think I would rather them stay closer to the physical fighting action of the original. I always thought that adding guns and such made it more similar to Ratchet and Clank which isnt bad but creates the possibility of making it not as unique. Im sure however they did it though would be fun.
Thing is, i wouldn't call J & D just a platformer, the first one maybe, but in the second and third things like the hoverboard and those buggies and stuff just made it amazing, also the dark jak things you could do and bonuses that you could unlock, absolutely amazing games!
They'll be sadly mistaking if they don't make a new Jak and Daxter I think.
