Hooray for LinkedIn! We've gotten early clues about new gaming projects from that job tracking site, and this time, we learn that work on a Dead Space sequel is in the "pre-production stages."
Visceral Games is looking for a Lead Combat and Controls Designer for what is guaranteed to be the hotly anticipated Dead Space follow-up, and EA senior recruiter Jeff Ballard says "the core team is in place." The person they seek must be highly qualified in a number of different areas, and the game is currently ready to enter full production "in the next few months." The original was one of our personal favorites of last year and we've been waiting for news on Dead Space 2 for all of 2009, so we're plenty excited. Here's more from the job listing:
"This M-rated action/shooter sequel will set new standards for an action-packed story-driven console experience. Our team values are as follows: Gameplay comes first, controller feel is everything, culture of creativity, be highly iterative, playtest early and often, learn from failure, work fast and smart, and surround ourselves with the best talent in the world."
We like that: "Gameplay comes first." Well, of course . The other sequel we want to hear about is Mirror's Edge 2 , simply because they provided us with one hell of a nice foundation for future building. But it's enough to know that Dead Space 2 may be one of the top holiday releases for 2010.

Yay they are making Dead space 2 sweet!
The first one was brilliant!

No Thanks, I'll stick with Bioshock
You and I usually agree PearlJammer, but not this time. I think Bioshock is over rated and was mostly hyped up due it being a Xbox timed exclusive. I went into Bioshock expecting something great. To me it was just another FPS and more Unnaturel looking Unreal engine.
Dead Space on the otherhand caught me by surprise. Graphics are easier to look at then Bioshock. It took the RE4 and 5 camera scheme and built on it. Bioshock wasn't bad, it just didn't aww me and scare me like Dead Space.
…differing opinions aside, when i went into Bioshock, I was addicted, i just couldn't put it down…
Bioshock was a decent game, but Dead Space was much better imo. However, they are 2 totally different types of games. The story telling on Bioshock was good, but as a fps game, i wanted more
EA set the bar really high when it comes to scary games this generation and not even Resident Evil 5 topped that bar. Dead Space was just that good and to a lot of people, it put EA games back in their spotlight
pearljamer, have you tried Dead Space?

It was the opposite for me Jammer. I got bored with Bishock quick. Dead Space I couldn't put down.
Bioshock was decent but Dead Space was brilliant. Hadn't had a good experience like that since the first Silent Hill.
the controls for the first one were great, I wonder why they need to hire on people to make new ones?
I was pleasantly suprised by the first game. It was fun and more frightening the RE5. It had a few wrinkles that could be ironed out in any sequel like menu and store navigation, but over all it was a fun game. One I still play from time to time. A sequel is needed.
yeh i thought the controls and the entire game tbh was better than resi 5 and i luved resi 4
Same here. I think the problem with RE5(many will disagree)was the lack of Shinji Mikami. Without him RE just isn't RE. That's why I believe RE5 turned out to be a lame 3rd person shooter with a lame story and short game play. Shinji Mikami set the bar high with RE4. Without him I don't know why I excepted RE5 to be any good. Or as good I should say.
yeh wasnt nearly as good without him the bar was set and 5 just didnt cut it for me……dead space on the other hand i didnt see coming i'd didnt expect it to be any good but it rocked
Agreed.
I thought the controls in Dead Space were just right. You could move about, but not so fast to the point where the action was always frantic.
RE5 just always felt like your legs were made out of lead. I hated the inventory system even more. I loved RE5 to be sure, but Dead Space got the controls balance right IMO. I'm thrilled to hear about this sequel.
Yea RE5 just didn't feel right. For some reason it worked well in RE4 but RE5 relied too heavely on action making the controls feel clunky. If it had controls more like Dead Space I think it would have felt better.
I'm having scary but good flash backs about DS when I first played at night.
Lets just say 6 guys (ages 16-28) + 5.1 surround + Dead Space at night= Priceless moments of "OH SHIT!" and "DUDE WATCH OUT, DUDE WATCH OUT!".
lol Good times.
As for a sequel to ME I will also buy it on day one as I did with both DS and ME last year.
I don't want to sound crazy but having it Co-Op with 2 people would be awesome. Instead of the 2 walking together though have it like two stories that run parallel and intertwine with the other, like one player has this objective and the other has to help you but only because it furthers them on their task. That way you're playing with someone but you still are alone at times. And I guess you can have moments when you and the other player are in the same room or have the same task and work side by side. 😀
What do you guys think of that??
well that would only be fun if you were playing with someone who was actually good.
It is rediculous how many times I had to save my partner in RE5, and I know that if we were seperated and it is as hard as the first one, alot of peole will be very mad at this game
I would love the option though
My slow ass still needs to beat the first one, but I'm still looking forward to it.
Dead Space was fantastic. By far, it was the best survival horror game this gen. I'm really looking forward to the sequel.
I'm off to replay it again now…it was so much fun the first time round.
Hope the sequel isn't ruined by the Dead Space trilogy movies, the 1st one is penned to be out next year…sounds like they could both coincide!
It's only one movie they are planning and just because they want it out next year…doesn't mean it will be, infact I guarantee you it won't be out next year if at all…
wait is this a movie movie or an animated film?
Still gotta buy the first.
1st day buy for me i loved the 1st dead space, but i hope they make it more scary the 1st 1 didnt make me jump till the very end!!!
Dead Space ranks #3 on my list of favorite games.
With #1 being Fallout 3, and #2 belonging to Uncharted 1. I have a feeling that Uncharted 2 will take the top spot (and not because of the multiplayer TDM types).
Back on topic.
I do NOT want a deathmatch style multiplayer on this title. Co-op of some type? Yes. But please, concentrate on making the sequel's singleplayer mode even better.

SNAZZZZYYYYY!!!!!!!
SCARRRRRYYYY!!!!!
Deadspace was another unexpectedly awesome title. It was my first horror game, and was right up there with Uncharted for me , in terms of cinematic experience. I wonder what aces they might have up their sleeve for the sequel.
It's about time someone decided to begin development on a second Dead Space. The first one was great, but not scary enough. The only two times I felt true fear/panic was when you were being chased throughout the ship by the invincible necromorph.
The gameplay objects could have been more varied too. Once I hit the 4 fourth chapter, it dawned on me that I had been doing a lot of maintenance on the ship. I know that Isaac was an engineer and so the entire purpose for him to be on the ship was to fix things, but there could have been more various objectives than there were.
Those are my only complaints with the first game. The second one will be amazing! Another day one purchase for me. 😉
I thought if was pretty scary. The last game that gave me some fright like DS was RE4. Way back when it came out.
It had great atmosphere! One of the best atmospheres in a game that I've played since Silent Hill 2. However, unlike Silent Hill (1-4, because Homecoming was an embarrassment), Dead Space never gave me that true sense of dread. I was never scared to turn that next corner in Dead Space, whereas in Silent Hill, every step you take gets you closer to claustrophobic terror.
I hope this is something that Visceral Games can accomplish in Dead Space 2. Although, I'll love it even if they don't.
i thought chapter five or 6 ( which ever was the one that had you being chased the whole chapter thru) gave me that dread feeling i haven't felt since the hunters first appeared on RE1. That was a true oh sh*t moment
yeh i thought it was scary too….walking around in the dark is with those things out there man that would not be nice in real life
I feel like the original could have been *perfect if they had ironed out just a few of the issues. I have every confidence that Visceral Games will do so and it will make me splooge.
Can't wait. I was surprised at how good DS1 was when I rented (and subsequently bought) it, and I expect DS2 to be just as good.
i want ur weapons and armor to carry over in the next game
Am I the only person who thinks that Dead Space 2 could possibly end up being really crap-tacular with respect to storyline?
I mean, when you beat it, the story is pretty much closed. What is the sequel going to be? Isaac Clarke goes to yet another abandoned ship and shoots necromorphs again? They'll have to bring in some weird story elements that I don't think will relate very well (if at all). Just leave it how it is, I say.
Dead Space was awesome, but I would hate to see it fall to the clutches of sequel syndrome.
you gotta think out the box, who says it has to star issac? its not like the guy spoke much
If Isaac isn't the protagonist in the next game I might just have to end it all.
Dead Space was brilliant, at first it appeared to be a Bioshock rip off, but then it came through and i personaly think was more superior than Bioshock. I hope DS2 lives up to the 1st.
I agree about Dead Space being better than Bioshock.
i loved the music and effects of DS. To me that is what made the game so spooky.
looking forward to another
Yes please… I can't wait for Dead Space 2. I think the first Dead Space took me by surprise at how good it actually was. I also think it helped have no real expectations going into the game but I was quickly blown away and hooked…
And like some of you guys already mentioned not even Resident Evil 5 topped that one in my opinion. Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed RE5 but Dead Space gave me my Horror/Action fix more than what RE5 did. So I'm sure Dead Space 2 will be epic….
nice, dead space is my thid favorite horror game this gen.
first being doom 3 and second being fear.
fear 2 just sucked donky balls that was extremely dissapointing, besides the gore that was brilliant.
i remember reading a article way back saying mirrors edge was being looked into buy a few people at dice, and will go into full scale production once battlefield bad company 2 is out.
so we shouldnt have to long to wait till mirrors edge 2 is announced, id say E3 next year.
and EA 1 more thing.
GIVE ME MY BLACK 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah! BLACK 2!! I Have yet to play DS or RE5. . .
