“Completely Reworked” Earthworm Jim Remake Detailed

It's an all-time classic and a title that certainly deserves to be revisited, if only to intrigue a whole new generation of gamers.

New details have come to light concerning an Earthworm Jim remake; Gameloft has decided to treat us to the baseline information: it'll be based on the Sega Genesis version of the game and it's being "completely reworked from scratch." In other words, we can expect enhanced visuals, smoother animations and difficulty settings (which weren't included in the original title). We'll even have the extra level – "Big Bruty" – featured in the Special Edition released way back when for the Sega CD and PC. And of course, in the spirit of a new online-oriented generation, leaderboards will be used to track vanquished foes, total time spent playing, and a bunch of other statistics. Lastly, it seems Gameloft is considering bringing the game to the new PSP Go as well, but for the time being, they're involved in creating new Minis for Sony's fresh portable. But the mere fact that Earthworm Jim is on its way back is enough to give us nostalgic goosebumps, just 'cuz it ruled so much back in the day.

How many other classics might see the light of day once again? Revamped, remastered, reworked, etc.? Oh man, the list could be endless…
