Final Fantasy is an iconic franchise and one that should always rake in plenty of profit for Square-Enix. Hence, their lofty sales prediction for FFXIII isn't surprising in the least.
According to Andriasang citing a recent Reuters interview with S-E CEO Yoichi Wada, the company expects the newest FF iteration to ship more units worldwide than its predecessor, which means FFXIII would have to top 6 million units. Wada also mentioned that the price drops for the PS3 and 360 should help push sales even higher and furthermore, he wants to remind everyone that Square-Enix is no longer a one-trick pony. He emphasizes the new stuff; saying they've got "two or three titles" scheduled to be released towards the end of next year that might wow the crowds. Furthermore, they want to have "around 8 IPs that could provide a continual influx of 2 million unit sales for the company." What are these 8 games? Well, one of them is undoubtedly the freshly revealed Nier but beyond that, we'll just have to wait on pins and needles for more IP announcements. Also, bear in mind that Square-Enix now includes Eidos in their stable, so Wada could very easily be referring to several titles from that side of the corporation, too.
Square-Enix has yet to really make their mark this generation; everyone is waiting for Final Fantasy XIII to keep us fat and happy for months. But don't discount the other stuff they're working on…new IPs are always interesting.
Related Game(s): Final Fantasy XIII
Here's an idea for SE. Release a new RPG in Japan on the PS3 every 4-six months for the next three years and you're pretty much guaranteed 2 million sales per game.
It's not like it takes a rocket scientist to figure that out.
I have yet to see any Square Enix game that is not on DS to sell 2 million this generation.
Maybe they're visual learners; they need a pie chart ala Pacman showing them the percentage of ps3 owners who would buy an RPG in Japan
I think they could've reached that goal if it were PS3 exclusive. All of Japan itself will buy this game…MGS4 pulled 4 million and that was over a year ago!
knowing square most of those ip's will be for the ds
Im sure XIII will have high sales. I would like to see them come out with new quality titles. So far Nier Replicant has my attention.
6 million is a good prediction. But if they do manage to sell that many copies worldwide, they better not get influenced by it and change final fantasy versus XIII's "exclusive" status to "multiplatform".

Price drop of the 360. Don't they mean the realignment of the SKU's? The 360 still cost too much.
Glad a new FF is coming. It is time.
I like how Microsoft makes the pricecut, at the same time they didn't.
I can't wait to finally be earning trophies on a FF. One of the few series that I always complete the game. Been playing them for almost 20 years. lol.
I WILL GET THE LIMITED EDITION ON DAY ONE, IF THERE IS ONE, PERIOD.
Hey SE, just so you know, short cgi films about nothing are not new IPs.
how about a turn based IP?
As long as they don't promise to wow the crowds with shittily presented games such as The Last Remnant, I'll be fine.
On subject of TLR: Have reached the first city [just after the cheesy and stchupid intro]. So far I think the main character is a tard, the English voiceovers are HORRIBLY GAY, and the story structure already seems somewhat something I'd see in a less than decent generic anime.
But I'm still willing to play on and forgive.
MAN i am on the fence about FF13 which i shouldn't be but i will be starting college and i have lots of test to pay for and Uncharted 2. GoW BLU-Ray Collection, and MW2 with da new PS WAND and any MAP PACKS are really all i can afford lol
man i need a job lol
i hope it sells less than that.
the less the better, i hope it sells less than 2 million copies.
but i wont hold my breath.
then, and only then will SE learn they have to stop selling their soul to the devil and stop being cheap greedy bastards.
but meh i probably would have better luck convincing capcom that.
