Polyphony Digital squashed all rumors of a 2009 launch for Gran Turismo 5 when they unveiled the estimated Japanese release at the Tokyo Game Show: March 2010.
But they made no mention of either North America or Europe when this announcement arrived, so we've only been able to assume that GT5 would arrive in the US at about the same time. Well, if we examine the words of Kazunori Yamauchi , it seems we can expect it "not that much later:"
"I don't think it's going to be that much later in the US and Europe. This is based on our production schedule. The reason why the dates for the US and [European] regions are not decided yet is because their marketing is still discussing their issues. It shouldn't be too far off from [the Japanese] date for the other regions as well."
We just wanted to clarify, as we've seen a lot of questions surrounding the North American release date, and whether or not we'll get it in March as well. We may not, but then again, that may not be too big of a travesty…look, if we have to wait, why not just drop it into April? We've already got God of War III in March and other major titles like Heavy Rain should drop in the first quarter of 2010, too. We're not saying sales would suffer if it launched too close to GoWIII, but our wallets might, and besides, we'll need the extra time. What say you?
Related Game(s): Gran Turismo 5
Even if it came out on the same day as God of War III and another exclusive, it'd be a day 1 purchase for all of them. The hard part would be deciding what to play first. But seriously, if people know now that it's coming, there's PLENTY of time to save up. Heck, xmas alone should fund at least 1 or 2 games.
What if that other exclusive was a Pee Wee's Playhouse RPG
I don't mind a month or two after the Japanese release, just not three or four…
Indeed. If Japan gets in March, I want it too.
March is going to be a busy month
i dont wanna wait n e more honestly!
They are already talking about GT6 coming out faster than GT5. They will probably come out with another Logitech steering wheel, like they usually do when a new GT game is released. There are plenty of good games to keep me busy while I wait.
It's sad that most of the triple A games get pushed back to early next year. There are just too many games to purchase in first half of 2010 now.
I want it now!!! …..tears!! Oh whatever 6 or 7 moths this days are nothing.
Oooh this sounds baaad.
SO TIRED OF WAITING for this game…OMG
WAHHHHH… WAHHHHHHHH….
Me wants the precious, now.
On a related note, Q1 2010 is looking ridiculous…..like more ridiculous than this holiday season 2009.
Well maybe with all this extra time they will be able to put in some Trans Am's in the American version
Why just the American version?
good point
Indeed.
You can never have to many Pontiacs..
Hmmm… What happened to the statement that was made a few weeks back by PD, that GT5 would release world wide at the same time? I dont want to wait longer than March… I think they are making a mistake by drawing out the release this much.
"We can release the game whenever we want, its done" – a lie?
Come on PD we just want the game!
It's likely a world wide release.
easy, i'll just buy mine in an importing website..
hey, i gotta spoil myself for that month since march is the month of my birthdayyyyy.

They pretty much have a fixed release date for their games but they're just waiting for the Sony marketing people to do their stuff.
That's pretty much what he said in some interview.
Vrooooooooooom. Just drove 5 cars around the Nordschleife on GT4.
I have a feeling I'll still be trying to beat Demon's Souls around this time. When a game has been in development for as long as GT5 what's another few months. No worries.

release it as soon as you can.
no matter which month it comes out, its going to have some strong competition.
if i was sony i would release it in febuary because there not releasing any exclusives then.
since its been delayed.
mayb now they can add some F1 cars.
oooooo that would be so cool
(Ok it looks like I love trolling every GT article haha) <— like serious.
In the mean time, take a geez at this comparison:

You can find my comments there using the username "Bank".
(It also looks like I'm advertising GTPlanet haha)
I dont want this in march…im gonna be playing God Of War like all the time!!! but..if it does come out in march…i'll be buying it day one.
Lots of games in march man i'm going to need to figure out when I'll have time for everything.
Hmmm… I know there are lots of games coming this year and in the spring, but does anyone else feel a little like Sony is letting things slip a little? After coming out of the starting gate at E3 like a Hurricane, it feels like some of the power has drained from the storm as we approach the reality of shipping all the games.
The PSPGO looks great, and I want one, but would I really pay 83% of the cost of a PS3 for a hand held unit? It just kinda feels like the reality of some of What Sony is bringing is not quite as lustrous as was first thought. Pushing GT5 back to March feels like a 3 month delay after we were told it was ready for release any time.
I don't know, I'm just not liking the additional wait.
That said, I played the Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 demo last night, and I've got to say I'm liking that game a lot. The removal of the gore has made it 1000% times more playable for me. Besides the demo has Ryu trying to rescue a damsel (Rachel) in distress, how can I resist that?
Maybe with NGS2, Uncharted 2, R&C Crack in Time and one or two others I can tide myself over until March.

A quick thought for those considering whether to purchase GT for PSP as well.
Since there will now be more or less 6 months between GT for PSP and GT5 arriving, buying the PSP game gives you 6 months to work on perfecting the tracks (again) and earning credits that you can use when GT5 arrives thanks to the link-up feature between the games…I know that I will be happily plugging away at the PSP iteration to get some practice on the tracks and earn some credits for when GT5 does arrive.
As unhappy as some are with the game (the reviews are a mixed bag), the PSP version of GT still acts as a valuable companion to the main game even it's it's nothing more than a training aid, and way to gain extra credits.
You can't transfer credits between GTPSP with GT5 ^_^
Which is a good thing because Kaz said it's like 10x faster than GT5.
You can transfer cars.
Yes, you're right, although as inarticulate as I was, that was what I was getting at.
@TheHighlander
You could play GT1 and GT2 on your PS3 if you still have them. Basically the same tracks.
GT4 works fine in my PS3 (60GB – PS1 & PS2 compat)…
The thing is, I can't take my PS3 to the office, but the PSP is relatively discrete and uses headphones…
I know that I shall receive infinite thumbs down from the PSXE crowd with this but here it is anyway.
I am losing my GT5 excitement. I have been missing a solid racer on the PS3 for so long that my enthusiasm level for one is slowly dying. All of the uber hype that has been going into GT5 got me all excitable but then started the waiting game and the claims of "anytime we want" and "shortly after GTPSP" and the like until all of the glint and sparkle is fading away.
Don't get me wrong I will still be picking it up but it probably won't be a day 1 purchase for me given the fact that it releases with everything else now.
All these devs delayed their games to avoid competition and now they are all in the same boat again.
I blame on the people who want damage model for the delay. I think the game is ready to ship but then some people want damage model so Poly is adding new physic engine and damage model. Right now Damage Model is at 50% complete.
Also he said, "Referring to damage specifically, Yamauchi mentioned some details about how damage will work in the game. There will be two types of damage, depending on the car you're driving. For regular production model cars, you'll be able scuff the paint job, as well as deform specific areas of the cars. For race model cars, like WRC and NASCAR models, damage will be extended to include parts falling off the car during particularly violent shunts".
Sorry for the pile of words.

I'm with you coverton341. With all the 'march 2010' release dates being tossed around I'm starting to believe it is nothing but a place holder meaning 'sometime in 2010.' Can't get excited about that. The game's not ready or we'd have it. From the sounds of things we won't have it for a loooong time and I've got other things to do.
I'm the opposite.
I'm getting more hyped with each screenshot they send out and with each interview I wait for.
😉
I do agree that they have delayed too much and that they are in the same boat all over again. Me getting Gran Turismo 5 on day one will depend on what else actually releases around it and what else gets delayed even more. I will get it of course, but we'll see on the when. Some of these games will likely get delayed into late Spring or early Summer.
"Yamauchi gave a brief overview of what to expect from GT5 during the presentation, including a rundown on the numbers that fans can expect from the game: more than 950 cars, 20 locations, and 70 variations of tracks from which to choose. Yamauchi said the team at Polyphony Digital has been working on several different areas of late, including a new physics engine and damage, as well as adding moveable objects on the track (such as destructible tire walls on the Tokyo Route 246 track, playable on the show floor of TGS 2009). The team has also been working on the inclusion of hybrid and electrical vehicles into the ever-growing roster of cars".

This sound pretty awesome.

any info of when we can expect it in australia?
NZ/AU
spring 2011
I'm sick of waiting for GT5! They've been pushing the date back for the past year and a half and it's gotten old! What was it like 6-8 months ago the developers said it was pretty much finished and they were just tweaking a few things here and there? They've postponed the release 3 times now? Screw em! I'll buy the new Need for Speed and rent GT5,(whenever it decides to come out) but they're NOT getting my money after all the bs they've put us through.
From what I understand the developer is a perfectionist, but this is f'n ridiculous! He sounds more like an anal retentive OCD nutjob to me!
