Rumor: Alpha Protocol Won’t Make It Next Week

To take a few words from the immortal Queen- "another one bites the dust."  Well…maybe.

More than a few promising titles have been pushed into 2010 and while most have jumped ship so as not to tangle with blockbusters like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves , some have had legitimate problems. Perhaps the latter is the root cause of Alpha Protocol 's delay. We haven't heard an official announcement from either developer Obsidian Entertainment or publisher Sega but as Joystiq points out, GameStop has pushed "The Espionage RPG" all the way into June of next year. Amazon Canada is also now showing a 2010 date. Oddly enough, US sources still list the game as having an October 6 launch date, which means it would hit store shelves next week alongside the much-anticipated Demon's Souls . This may still be true but we get the sneaking suspicion that Amazon US and others are just tardy to the party; we haven't heard much about Alpha Protocol in the past few weeks. And for a game that's supposed to release next week, that's usually not a good sign.

But you never know. If it really is delayed, this only leaves Demon's Souls , although there's nothing wrong with that. BioWare's Dragon Age: Origins should be out in October as well, but we've heard the PS3 version has been pushed out further, so… RPG fans may only have Atlus to turn to.

Well, no surprise there. The videos of the game on PSN had an unfinished look. I think it's smart to put this cake back in the oven with the others.

Obsidian has a reputation, among some, as being better than their games show. This title seems to be a worthy addition to the rpg genre. If true, Sega/Obsidian made the right call.

i seriously dont need another rpg in 2010, unless it's TOV 😉

2010 is too crowded for rpgs; I mean c'mon we'll have Resonance of Fate, Star Ocean 4, Final Fantasy XIII, White Knight Chronicles, Altier Rorona, Trinity Universe, last rebellion and Final Fantasy XIV

I recently got my Demons Souls import as im in England, 40hrs in…game of the year, if not, since this gen began!

Its that good! One of the best games of all time, a breath of fresh air in this copy and paste generation.

I urge all of you to get this groundbreaking, unique, important RPG/game. A huge benchmark for PS3 and games in general.

So don't threat about Alpha.

I'll get Demon's Soul on day one if you get Uncharted 2 on day one 🙂

I think this stuff with pushing launch dates back is idiotic. If the publisher of the game doesn't think it's worth selling, why the hell should I think it's worth buying?

It is. Sometimes publishers are like that. Putting the cart before the horse happens way too often…

The newest issue of Game Informer was plastered with ads for Alpha Protocol. Seems weird that they would blow all of that money on marketing prematurely like that.

As someone not really into RPGs. I liked the sound of this one. It sort of reminds of a modern Mass Effect; judging by the videos i've seen.

It's pushed back nearly a year? Holy smokes! They most certainly did not meet many of their goals for this game.

Or Obsidian is addressing the criticisms from that leaked document. Even if it was fake, it still had an impact.
