Naughty Dog has said they will continue to make Uncharted "as long as the fans want it," but they must've already assumed the reaction to Uncharted 2: Among Thieves would be good enough to warrant a third entry (and of course, that's a correct assumption).
But as amazing as this sequel looks – just trust us when we say it's the best-looking console game you've ever seen – it seems the team actually can actually make a future title look better . According to what co-lead game designer Neil Druckman told the gaming press , Uncharted 3 is going to blow our minds once again, and it's not necessarily due to the power of the PlayStation 3. In fact, Druckman says they're already working with the full power of the hardware for Uncharted 2 , but the engine for the game can be optimized to look visually superior. In a direct contrast, it seems Uncharted: Drake's Fortune only utilized about 30% of the PS3 hardware, which – mathematically speaking – would mean Naughty Dog used more than three times the hardware power in the making of Uncharted 2 . Plus, with the 90 minutes of cinematic content that will emulate real life better than ever before, Uncharted 2 is going to be one fine production…but can you even begin to imagine what Uncharted 3 might look like? Can the designers really take another significant step? If so…wow.
We always get a big kick out of seeing the graphical achievements developers continue to make. Graphics don't make the game, but they sure as hell add to the experience.

Too early to be saying this. I don't even have Uncharted 2 yet!
totally. this type of comment should be made AFTER uncharted2 is released. at least 2 months into the game's lifespan and beyond.
actually its a fine time to make this comment…they are the devs. and they know what they can and cant do who are we to say when they should or shouldnt say they can make a game look better, all this does is give us even more to look forward to in the future of gaming, andf the ps3 not to mention what will be one of the best gaming franchises ever, Uncharted!
the game is out in less than a month, and if a dev is already saying they can improve on the next one we should be excited, not bashing there work!
Uncharted 2 will be insane and probably one of my fav games of all time, well it will be… anyways if naughty dog can tell me now that they can keep this up and then some, ill be more than ecstatic.
Naughty Dog deserves an award!

instead of bashing there work i meant to say **** instead of bashing there comments about their games they develop!
sorry!
i know no one was bashing there work, just got caught up!
All i'm saying is, let Uncharted 2 shine before you start hyping Uncharted 3. I hate it when a game is all hyped up and is a good game buy you were expecting so much more. Thats why developers shoudn't go around saying stuff like this, especailly when Uncharted 2 isn't even out yet.
all i see them saying is:
"we worked our asses off to get where we are with this game and we are very proud of it. through continued optimazation of our game engine we believe we can make a third game that will look better than what we have now"
im not really sure how that would make a difference to be said a few months from now if they already know now.
There is always room to reduce footprint. Use more clever programming techniques. Uncharted 2 isn't even out yet and I already want to see what the third game will look like.
Yea, I'm actually more into looking at the technical achievement of the game design rather than the actual gameplay… hahaha
I'm going to go into cryostasis until the release of uncharted 2 so I don't have to wait anymore…someone wake me on October 13th
Lol, freeze yourself in snow, don't worry I'll wake you up…you can trust me ;D lol
@LegendaryWolfeh
Rofl.
just make sure your friend is not named butters.
put a alarm besides u, coz we all gonna be busy playing U2 on oct. 13th. 🙂
I'm sure when people upgraded from the Atari 2600 to the Sega Megadrive and then onto the Super Nintendo(feel free to fill in the consoles I left out)etc, etc…they never realised that gaming would be like this now. I think the people working behind the scenes are constantly tryin to better themselves. What Naughty Dog have achieved in U2 probably opened a flood gate of things they feel could of been done better. I for one appreciate the fact that they keep pushing the envelope and turning out inspiring games and setting the bar higher and higher each time.
Exactly, all it takes is one to stand out above the rest to get competition brewing. Everything is a competition. Thanks ND!
The last thing that I wanted to hear is that Uncharted 2 is not the best it can be(graphically). That being said I'm counting the days till U2 release.
I think you're missing the point. Uncharted 2 could easily be the best on the block when it's released, but Naughty Dog is saying that for Uncharted 3 (presumably in a couple/three years time) will use an engine that is even further optimized. They are being realistic in that they are recognizing the continual improvement and refinement of their game engine. They would have to be some of the most conceited developers on Earth to think that their game engine couldn't improve.
I think they are not even correct to say that they're using the full power pd the PS3 – this is an opinion, not fact. It's a very subjective and interpretive thing to say to be sure. But technically you could use 100% of the Cell BE to execute an infinite loop of NO OP instructions that do nothing. In other words, even if they are using every cycle of CPU right now, there may be ways to use the CPU better than what they have right now, resulting in a XX% improvement in CPU use. The same could be true for the GPU. They may even find ways to spread the load between CPU and GPU differently. Who knows. So even if right now there are no spare cycles when Uncharted 2 runs, Uncharted 3 will still more than likely be better, because there will be two or three years more work in the game engine.
My response, No shit.
If Uncharted 2 is the best it can be, than people will complain that the ps3 has already been maxed out. If it isn't the best of what's possible on the ps3, then people will complain about the game. If ND or Sony doesn't say anything, than people complain about Sony's marketing. No matter what, people will complain…

It's a given that sequels look better than their predecessors. Any bitching or complaining concerning this general belief is ignorant. ND nor Sony need to state the obvious.
Any game this generation looking better than the first Uncharted is hardly a given. And sequels don't always look better than their predecessors. ND was just assuring us that there is a lot more in store for the ps3.
"It's a given that sequels look better than their predecessors."
*cough* Halo ODST *cough*
ODST is an expansion at best, everyone knows that. Find a better example please.
Tell me something I don't know 😛
Best thing i like about Naughty Dog, Humor.
every review so far (ign that one french review
) have given uncharted two a max on the graphics. so 3 will probably be on ps4 or some crap
uncharted was at the begining of the ps3 life cycle, uncharted 2 is 3 years in, the games engine was built for and made on the ps3. they think they can refine it again after uncharted 2 and do what they did from 1 to 2. what makes you think they would wait for a ps4 to make a third game…
When I read the headline to this article the first thing I thought was, "I thought they were already using 100% of the PS3's power". Then I saw the word 'optimization' and I was like "Oh shizzy, they actually gonna make their next game look even better". Regardless, can't wait for U2!
They did say Uncharted 2 took the full 25 gigs. Looks like Uncharted 3 will have to tap into the dual layers!
The power of the cell!
Let's talk about Uncharted 4! hehe and I'm sure it'll be better looking than 3.
Can developers just let the game shine and reach the normal developing curve? I mean, Uncharted 2 is not even out yet, already talking about 3. likewise, PS3 is not even matured or maximized yet, already looking forward to PS4, PSP Go not even released yet, already hyped a PSP-2, do the business world just want to use these to keep buyers attention? One is not even completed or digested, new things got thrown onto you again. Can we just keep a bit more focused in modern era? geez.

I don't say this about this many games , but you have to get this if you have a PS3 . The amount of hard work they have put into this game needs to be rewarded .

I'll support this franchise as long as Naughty Dog makes it.
Let's cross that bridge when we get there.
obviously…
Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Feelin spoiled.

Too late.
He dies
who dies?
yea, who dies? lol
Ok I dont want to sound rude but why didnt they just focus all of this graphical superior stuff on Uncharted 2 not 3 you know WTF. If there are no limits to what they can do then why not give it a full effort and make me proud to waste my 55$(I got demo for 5$) for their game!
That whooshing noise was the point rushing past your ear.
Uncharted 2 is the best that can be produced with the current engine. ND are saying that they are certain that further optimization will happen allowing them to do even better with Uncharted 3. They're simply being ambitious for the future, and not saying that they held something back from Uncharted 2.
Good grief.
Was Uncharted 3 even announced yet?
no but everyone seems in agreement that it is a foregone conclusion.
This is a tough one for me. I think the next few exclusives coming along are already pushing the PS3 hard. One can optimise further, but the biggest bottleneck for things to be looking even better and more realistic (and near to "real-time" rendered CGI) is the lack of memory – which in turn significantly reduces the possibilities of running your game engine at true HD resolution of 1900 x 1080p. *Imagine what Killzone 2 may look like running at 1900 x 1080p in true HD for example. (This is different when using a game engine to only view real time cut scenes in HD)
A friend of mine has just taken delivery of an Alienware Rig, dolled out to the hilt.
Sitting on his 4 core motherboard, are x2 Nvidia 295's SLI'd. This is one mean machine. He maxed out Crysis at 1900 x 1200 with all detailed turned up to maximum, including x2 AA, and it sings along. He is also sitting with 12GB of system memory and 2GB of graphics memory.
In the PS3, we are sitting with 256mb of memory for the RSX 🙁 …its poultry… Our PS3, at theoretical peak, is capable of 2.1 Terra Flops of processing throughput; just the 2 Nividias in the Alienware Rig are bursting 2.5 Terra Flops and those are only the graphics cards, we are not talking 4 core processor with Hyper threading combined.
My conclusion is, with some trickery and hard work, Unchartered 3 can possibly make thinks look a little better, but increasingly, from what I saw recently having taken a good look around a PC hardware electronics store, our PS3 is looking aged 🙁
Anyway, let us wait and see what they can do with it in the next 24 months… should be interesting…
Personally I was going to buy a PS3 Slim, but now I am convinced all extra monies I have which are not going to go toward a PS3 game exclusive should now go toward a really nice, powerful PC rig which would give me the overall grunt I am looking for, together with a decent home PC which I need anyway. The cross platform games are cheaper… memory is almost infinite and the new line of Nvidia GPU's and ATI GPU's are incredibly powerful…
In addition, Linux on the PS3 is hobbled no thanks to not having RSX GPU access, therefore making it impossible for me to use it as a everyday general computer. The reality is, it could be, if only Sony wanted it to be 🙂
So having a Fat PS3 and a top of the range PC it's a gamers dream, best of all worlds mi thinks 🙂

unchartered?
Yes, talking about Unchartered 3 being better than Unchartered 2 visually. My first line says "Its' a tough one for me", meaning I will really have to wait and see how much better (in general that is) graphics can become better after what we are seeing and will see in the coming exclusive games, including Unchartered 2. How much more can they really squeeze out?
Generally speaking, my post was saying that with the advent of some very nice PC hardware about, I would like to continue investing in my PS3 games – the exclusives anyway, but also put extra monies aside for a powerful PC rig so I have the best of both worlds. Instead of purchasing a PS3 Slim and PSP, I would like to put the cash toward a decent PC set up.
World; do you believe graphics on the PS3 can get much better when looking at what is being achieved already?

dont!
seriously dont.
there is no point in spending serious cash on a gaming pc at the moment.
1 games are STILL yet to be coded for multi core CPUs.
2 there is not 1 game out there that needs a alienware high tech computer.
if you want to get a PC, i sudgest finding a company that will build one for you, or if you know how build it yourself.
it will save you a hell of allot of money.
if i was to get the exact same specs with my computer from dell, alienware, HP, toshiba, Asus or any other PC maker it would of cost me at least 500 bucks more.
i got a intell I7 920 OC to 3.2Ghz 1 Nvidia 9800GTX+ and 6GB DDR3 ram @ 1333Mhz that is no where near as powerful as a alienware.
I spent 2800 AUD on my pc and am really regretting it, because my laptop which cost me 2K can do everything my 2800 PC can.
wait till crysis 2 and half life 2 episode 3 and RAGE are out, because by then you will need a powerful pc now its overkill.
my PC is overkill, alienwares are 4 times more powerful than my PC, so there 4 times the overkill (not literally but you get the point)
i wish i listened to my teachers, they told me not to spend any more than 2K on a PC for gaming because its overkill.
anything a 3K computer can do, a 2K computer can also do.
I would spend 1K on a PC max.
anything more than a dual core @ 2.8GHZ, 6GB DDR3 ram and a 9800GTX+ is a waste of money.

If you're into multiplayer and you don't game on a PC you're missing out on the best multiplayer experience available. Games that are 10 years old still attract a huge following and have populated servers running 24/7. You can easily build a PC for under $800 that will play Crysis close to max settings. Hell I bought my parents a Dell last summer for $700 (including the monitor) and Crysis looks pretty spectacular on it.
I run Crysis at max settings.
