October is absolutely loaded with potentially excellent titles, and while the RPG fanatics will get Demon's Souls on the 6th, the military shooter fans will get what should be a highly polished and technically accomplished production in Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising .
More details have arisen today concerning the all-important multiplayer modes for this one, and they're certain to pique your interest. According to The Lost Gamer , the entire campaign can be played cooperatively; you can enlist "up to three other online Marines and take on the opposition." You can even switch up teams for each mission as you progress so you don't have to be stuck with the same players; you know, just in case one of 'em isn't working out. Competitive multiplayer features four-on-four Player vs. Player battles, plus two more modes – Annihilation and Infiltration – to add even more diversity to the online aspect. Annihilation will give each team "the ultimate arsenal of weaponry" and from there, it's a massive battle to the finish; the last man standing's team wins. Infiltration is exactly what it sounds like: one team holds a certain position while the other attempts to work its way inside and claim it for themselves. This mode will definitely require more in the way of strategy and tactics, and yes, perhaps a wee bit of stealth, too.
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is one of the most anticipated shooters of the year, but bear in mind that it's not exactly Modern Warfare . This is closer to a military simulator, so don't go charging into battle at all times, m'kay?
